SUMMARY:Ascension Closing Reception
DESCRIPTION:Tryon Arts & Crafts School announces the exhibition Ascension by Jennifer Bueno\, Kit Paulson\, and Kimberly Thomas\, which will run from January 13 through February 15\, 2026. The exhibit coincides with the school’s annual fused glass symposium\, FuseFest (February 13 to 15)\, and culminates in a closing reception and artist panel on Friday\, February 13\, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm.\nThe exhibition explores the essential thresholds between the seen and the unseen\, with each artist using glass to articulate the theme of ascension. Through their distinct practices\, the artists propose that true ascension is not only flight or physical escape from a fragile planet\, but fundamentally a transformation of consciousness—a radical shift toward heightened perception\, empathy\, and possibility.\nFor Jennifer Bueno\, this ascension begins with the physical environment and stretches outward into space. Her luminous glass and painted forms translate the felt\, intimate bond between the body and its environment into ethereal\, suspended spaces. Through the synthesis of glass and evocative media\, Bueno makes visible the invisible energies that sustain life\, urging viewers toward an elevation of awareness rather than an abandonment of Earth. Her surfaces suggest an ecology of spirit\, where the boundary between self and atmosphere dissolves.\nKimberly Thomas propels that ascent inward and psychologically. Through kinetic flameworked and mixed-media sculptures that merge realism with dark fantasy\, she examines the human desire to transcend corruption\, fear\, and societal constraint. Her works visually capture the chaotic\, fierce struggle required for deep personal change. In her universe\, ascension is rebellion—a necessary\, creative act of shedding imposed forms. She asks what it means to evolve beyond the corrupting weight of human constraint.\nWith Kit Paulson\, ascension takes on an intellectual and spiritual precision. Her intricate glass constructions recall instruments of measurement\, flight\, and ritual\, merging scientific curiosity with mythic longing. Her works operate like precise\, visual diagrams of transcendence—the fragile\, complex systems of knowledge and inner life. Through meticulous craftsmanship\, Paulson makes visible the delicate balance between containment and release\, the body and the infinite.\nTogether\, these three artists imagine what it means to rise—emotionally\, philosophically\, and cosmically—from a planet in crisis. In Ascension\, escape is not avoidance but an evolution.

SUMMARY:Spirited Improv Group 6 Week Series
DESCRIPTION:Spirited Improv is a conscious\, community-centered experience where we come together to grow through improvisation. \nUsing improv as a living practice\, we explore presence\, creative expression\, and authentic connection in a space rooted in love and radical acceptance. It’s about trusting the unknown and responding from the heart. \nOver 6-weeks\, we move\, play\, express\, and create together\, allowing improv to become the process through which community forms and transformation unfolds. As we practice showing up authentically with one another\, fear softens\, confidence grows\, and a deeper sense of belonging emerges. \nSpirited Improv is for spiritually aligned humans seeking personal growth\, meaningful connection\, and a more loving way of being in the world. \nFacilitated by Jessica Chilton\, whose background in improvisation and expressive arts therapy creates a sacred\, supportive container for soulful play and community growth.

SUMMARY:Jazz Is for Everyone - Free to Be: The Rise of the Artist
DESCRIPTION:A Lecture Demonstration Series for the Curious\, the New\, and the Devotee \nSun\, Feb 8 • 3 pm | 60 Minutes \nIn the late 1950s and ’60s\, musicians like John Coltrane\, Miles Davis\, Charles Mingus\, Wayne Shorter\, Ornette Coleman\, and others claimed their place as artists. There wasn’t any real doubt before\, but jazz now sat at the heights of contemporary art\, fully claiming the aesthetic and compositional achievements originally won by artists like Mary Lou Williams and Ellington. Still\, it never stopped being a soulful expression of individuality\, inspiration\, and a challenge to embrace our highest intent. \nJazz Is for Everyone is a series of five one-hour sessions exploring jazz music. Come to one or join them all—each session stands on its own and welcomes listeners at any level. \nWhat You’ll Experience: \nGuided listening\nLive music demonstrations\nStories that connect the music to people\, places\, and intent\nA space for questions\, curiosity\, and shared discovery \nJeremy Walker launched Jazz Is for Everyone in 2004 at his Brilliant Corners Jazz Club\, with Wynton Marsalis serving as Artistic Advisor. The program was developed as an Educational Affiliate with Jazz at Lincoln Center. Since then\, Walker’s been writing\, composing\, performing\, producing\, and speaking about why this music still matters.
