SUMMARY:Amici – Jewish Jazz the Sequel
DESCRIPTION:AmiciMusic returns to the White Horse for another thrilling JEWISH JAZZ program on Saturday\, May 30th at 2:00pm. “JEWISH JAZZ–the Return of the Jewdi” is a sequel to the fun and popular program they performed last year featuring the wonderful Seth Kibel on clarinet and Artistic Director Daniel Weiser on piano. They will highlight more exciting connections between American Jazz and Klezmer-influenced music with works by Jacob Weinberg\, Benny Goodman\, Bela Kovacs\, and a fantastic arrangement of George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.” Dr. Weiser will tell great stories about how these two idioms intertwined in the early part of the 20th century as the wave of Jewish immigrants to NYC met up with the Great Migration of African-Americans from the South. Kibel is a phenomenal talent who has been voted best musician in the Baltimore/DC area for several years. You won’t want to miss this toe-tapping exciting music. \nFor more info about the program and the artists\, visit: https://www.amicimusic.org/concert/jewish-jazz-5-3/.

The band has an instrumental prowess that enables them to improvise with flair\, while still creating music that has a melodic appeal that can immediately connect with audiences who want both a high degree of musical competence and songs with strong grooves and catchy hooks. In January 2024 they took top honors in the band division at the prestigious International Blues Challenge held in Memphis\, Tennessee. SUMMARY:OPENING RECEPTION: Black Mountain COLL(A)GE
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening reception of our summer exhibition\, Black Mountain COLL(A)GE\, hosted at BMCM+AC. This reception is free and open to all.\nBlack Mountain College Museum + Arts Center presents Black Mountain COLL(A)GE\, an exhibition tracing the presence of collage through the history and legacy of the renowned liberal arts college. Combining work by Black Mountain College artists with select contemporary collagists\, the exhibition foregrounds transformation as a radical strategy\, assembling an ever-shifting picture of collage as medium\, method\, and memory.\nFrom Josef Albers’ matière exercises to the collaborative 1951 “Glyph Exchange” between Charles Olson\, Ben Shahn and Katherine Litz\, cutting up and rearranging found material was a way of life at Black Mountain College. Some of the 20th century’s most influential collage practitioners\, including Robert Rauschenberg and Ray Johnson\, studied at BMC. Many other students took up collage as a life-long medium\, including Irwin Kremen\, William Douglas McGee\, Jo Sandman\, John Urbain\, Mary Parks Washington\, and Susan Weil. Still others continued to experiment with cut-ups while working in other realms of creative production\, such as the writer and critic Suzi Gablik. Today\, collage continues to exert a powerful influence on our art ecosystem. Selected works from contemporary collagists contextualize the medium’s trajectory and provide a window into the future. Curated by Kira Houston\, this exhibition pieces together a wide array of stories to encapsulate a visual and sonic exploration of Black Mountain COLL(A)GE. \nBlack Mountain COLL(A)GE will be on view from May 29\, 2026 through September 5\, 2026.\nBlack Mountain College Museum + Arts Center is donation-based and open to all.\nLearn more on our website at https://www.blackmountaincollege.org/black-mountain-collage/

SUMMARY:PATIO SHOW: Abe Reid
DESCRIPTION:– LIMITED PATIO SEATING IS FIRST COME FIRST SERVE ABE REID Abe Reid is a North Carolina musician and one of the modern keepers of the Piedmont roots music tradition. Born in Forsyth County and raised in Statesville\, Reid began playing guitar at a young age\, developing a deep connection to the region’s historic finger-style traditions. His musical education came directly from the source. As a young player\, he spent time with legendary Carolina musicians Guitar Gabriel and Cootie Stark\, learning not only guitar technique but also the storytelling and spirit behind traditional American music. In the 1990s\, Reid immersed himself in the life of a working musician\, busking on the streets of New Orleans before returning to North Carolina’s music scene. He later helped form the roots band The Blue Rags\, known for energetic performances and traditional sounds. Reid gained international recognition when he won the International Blues Challenge in Memphis—becoming the first solo performer to win the competition. Today\, Abe Reid continues to perform\, teach\, and share the music of the American South\, passing on knowledge learned from older musicians and decades on the road.

The sound that answers is rich\, reverent\, and intimate\, connecting us through the lineage of music\, to the stories of our ancestors. In the past\, Max’s unique and fusion-inspired approach to Flugelhorn and trumpet has led him to perform with artists such as Trevor Hall\, MaMuse\, Esperanza Spalding\, Nahko And Medicine For The People\, Liv Warfield (Prince) and many more. The result of years of collaboration with such a broad musical community is powerfully illustrated on Max’s albums\, 1st Language and Resilient Beings Community album created at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville\, NC. \nwww.maxribner.com \nResilient Beings – An Electrifying\, Immersive Experience Where the People Become the Music \nBridging the gap between stage and audience\, Max Ribner and local artists welcome you to an immersive experience/workshop where we all become part of the orchestra. Join Max Ribner and an extraordinary ensemble of local artists as we SING and celebrate songs from Resilient Beings Community Album. \nRecorded at Echo Mountain in Asheville\, this genre-bending album bridges folk\, creative improvisation\, and choral harmonies—a soulful tapestry woven from resilience\, loss and the power of community. \nListen in: Resilient Beings Album recorded in Asheville: \nhttps://maxribner.bandcamp.com/album/resilient-beings-live-in-asheville-2025 \nListen and watch: Resilient Beings Live Music Video in Asheville: \n \nThe band: \nSamara Jade – vocals & guitar \nKatrina Lilly – vocals \nAshae Tenderfire – vocals \nJoe Enwright – drums \nBrennan Dugan – bass \nMax Ribner – vocals\, flugelhorn\, keys \n** \nFreedom Family Band** \nMatteo and Katrina Lilly of The Freedom Family Band are incredible musicians\, song weavers\, and community leaders. Their music touches hearts and their mission is rooted in integrity and generosity. The space they hold is refreshingly authentic and profoundly special. Their raw humanness weaves so beautifully with their ancient souls and celestial sounds. Their style is centered around profound lyricism\, tight vocal harmonies\, and inspired musical flow. They defy genre and embody something so ancient and special that it can’t quite be labeled. They have empowered and mentored thousands of aspiring musicians both indirectly and directly through their one music program\, 1:1 coaching work\, inspiring prayerformances and song circles\, internationally distributed music\, and the last 7 Free The Music Gatherings. It’s truly their life’s work to inspire all people to express their music\, art\, and creative flow. They foster belonging and cultivate spirit. You can see the hand of God working in their lives and the medicine they carry is contagious in all the best ways. \nWebsite: https://freedomfam.org/ \nANZA \nAnna & Anzi Rivers – ANZA is a high vibe sister duo consisting of 13-year-old Anzi & 16-year-old Anna Rivers. Songwriting and composing have been a lifelong passion. \nThey were born and raised part of their life in the high mountain desert region of Colorado\, and now can be found exploring the lush feminine Grandmother Mountains of North Carolina. They are homeschooled and spend a lot of their time singing and creating. \nAnna and Anzi grew up inspired by an array of musical landscapes and experiences from nightly improv lullabies\, reading books as a song\, ecstatic dance\, music festivals\, family dance nights\, backyard fires with friends\, to the small stages of friends’ art galleries\, to making up songs in the backseat of the car. All while studying with Jeremy Dittus at the Dalcroze School of the Rockies\, since they were 5 years old. This led them to play piano and guitar. \nThey have played on stages of Global Leaf\, The White Horse\, Grey Eagle & Salvage Station in WNC\, as well as music festivals on stage\, and around the campfire with Max Ribner\, Paul Izak\, Tubby Love\, and The Freedom Family Band. They have sang with musicians MaMuse\, Samara Jade\, Aimée Ringle and Micaela Kingslight at The Circle Revival Gatherings\, a six-hour ceremony and gathering of 1100 people. They have spent significant time in state-of-the-art recording studios with Max Ribner and Roots Grown Deep. They have received accolades from Grammy Award-winning songwriter Jim Lauderdale and Marty Dodson. \nWebsite: https://anzaharmonies.com/home \nChinobay Kinobe: \nRooted in the rich cultural and musical traditions of Uganda\, Chinobay is a musician\, cultural ambassador\, and educator who has opened hearts across the globe and performed as a featured artist at top tier festivals and venues. \nAs a child growing up in his homeland of Uganda\, Chinobay lived in a small home near the Kanyange king’s palace. Constant immersion in the traditional music coming from the palace left an indelible mark on him. He embraced the folk tunes he learned from these musical elders\, crafting early works that paid homage to the music of his own tribe\, the Baganda people. \nAs he grew musically\, he revitalized these classic folk songs\, and along the way he mastered a broad array of traditional instruments. Today\, he is a seasoned songwriter\, a dedicated educator\, and a bridge-builder between cultures. His original compositions breathe life into the diverse stories of humanity\, showcasing Africa in its full spectrum of richness — transcending its portrayal merely as a backdrop for adversity. \nHis band seamlessly fuses Ugandan folk music with a wide range of global influences\, from Afrobeat dance rhythms to world funky inflections\, transcending genres and creating a sound that is both distinctive and accessible. With the band\, Chinobay incorporates traditional instruments such as the kora\, a West African harp-lute\, the kalimba\, a thumb piano native to East and Southern Africa\, the tamani\, a West African talking drum from Mali\, and the endongo\, a traditional Ugandan string instrument. These instruments not only offer a unique sonic texture but also help to preserve and celebrate Africa’s diverse musical heritage. \nBut for all of his musical success\, Chinobay’s journey is not just a musical odyssey\, it is also a testament to the power of art to transform lives and bring about positive change. From teaching music and dance to formerly homeless children in Kampala\, to supporting internally displaced youth from Northern Uganda\, he is having immeasurable impact on the lives of vulnerable children. \nMax Ribner’s Resilient Beings Workshop \nThursday\, May 28th\, 2026 \nDoors 11:30 AM || Workshop Noon \nJoin the Choir!!! ( for all levels and ages ) \nReady to come SING with us??!! \nMax Ribner and local artists welcome you to an immersive experience/workshop where we all become part of the orchestra. As a collective\, we will journey into a prayerful space of connectivity\, belonging\, and coming home as we will learn a few songs to learn that will lead to the evening performance!!! We will be writing a song that presents itself in the moment while learning basic rhythms\, choir parts\, deep listening\, and creative lyric writing. \nHere’s a song\, ‘North Star’ that we will learn and create a new section: https://youtu.be/uObTq7tk-qM \nAll voices\, ages\, backgrounds\, and levels of experience are welcome. \nAll ages

SUMMARY:George Trouble & The Zealots-"Entanglement"-Release Party/Bob Dylan's 85th Birthday
DESCRIPTION:George Trouble & The Zealots are delighted to return to the Grey Eagle for a double-headed show on Sunday\, May 24th at The Grey Eagle. In addition to the release of their 6th album\, “Entanglement”\, GT & The Zealots reprise the tradition of celebrating Bob Dylan’s birth. Hurricane Helene stymied the production process of “Entanglement” as well as eliminating the possibilty of a Dylan show in 2025. In an ironic twist\, the two events have come together in a happy confluence-partially as a result of the chaos that reigned down upon the French Broad River in Fall 2024. The band includes longtime partner Aaron Price-keys\, Zack Page-bass\, and Evan Martin-drums (The Honeycutters). It’s gonna be one for the books!

SUMMARY:GODSPELL Musical Theater - Completely Reimagined for Today
DESCRIPTION:Experience Godspell like you’ve never seen it before. In every generation\, a community gathers around a story that refuses to stay quiet. Staging Godspell in 2026 isn’t just an act of theater—it’s an act of hope. It’s a reminder that joy can still erupt in unexpected places\, even in a tent set up on a patch of Carolina ground. And to be honest\, we’ve always believed the Gospel lands best when there’s laughter and sawdust. Now\, more than ever\, the world needs its people to seek justice\, forgiveness\, hope\, and love using all available paths. The directors\, cast and crew are local and have many years of experience in theater and music and want to give you an inspiring experience that echoes the hope of the last weeks of spring that will literally surround the tent.
