SUMMARY:Karen Morgan
DESCRIPTION:Laugh out loud with season-opening stand-up Karen Morgan\, who proudly hails from an era when rocks were pets\, carpets were shag and bicycle seats were bananas. Stealing the spotlight — for once — from the boomers\, zoomers and avocado-loving millennials\, this Gen X comedian is here to show her “forgotten generation” some laughter and love\, delivering wry observational humor through the perceptive eye of a wife and mother\, tempered with a dash of Southern charm. \nOpener: Kathy Gilmour\nKathy recently moved back to the Boston area after living in Key West for 20 years. She was a resident comedian at Comedy Key West and has headlined at many other Key West stages. She has been chosen to perform at prestigious festivals including Boston Comedy and Hampton Beach. She has competed at the Massachusetts and New England’s Funniest competitions. Her popular blog “Diary of a Fathlete” has been highlighted in many publications. She currently performs all over the country. A clean comic\, audiences relate to her dry\, and awkward take on everyday situations. Her inspiration comes from working with the general public for more than 20 years\, traveling the world and mostly the clarity that comes from a good nap. She would almost always rather be home on her couch with her dog.

SUMMARY:Exhibition: The Farm at Black Mountain College
DESCRIPTION:Built on more than a decade’s worth of deep\, original archival research\, this exhibition will constitute a comprehensive new history of Black Mountain College. By focusing on the farm\, the exhibition sidesteps the popular paradigm of approaching BMC through its famous faculty and students\, and instead offers a new cast of characters\, one that includes mostly students\, women\, and farmers. It spotlights the importance of collaboration\, both on campus among students\, faculty\, and faculty families\, and in the community with farmers and organizations in nearby cities and towns. Finally\, the exhibition shows what happens when communal living is no longer communal\, and offers the first ever detailed account of the fall of the college\, a dramatic and often dangerous story. \nThe opening reception and a keynote lecture will take place in conjunction with BMCM+AC’s annual ReVIEWING conference hosted at UNC Asheville. Exhibition themes will correspond to the chapters of co-curator David Silver’s book on this topic\, to be published in conjunction with the exhibition in partnership with Atelier Editions. \nCurated by David Silver and Bruce Johansen

SUMMARY:The 40\,20\,10s + Stevie Tombstone
DESCRIPTION:Join us for The 40\,20\,10s with Stevie Tombstone at Citizen Vinyl on Friday\, September 27. Doors at 7 p.m. and show at 8 p.m. $12 advance / $15 at the door. \nNEON (out October ‘24) is the latest album by The 40\,20\,10s. Recorded over six days with producer Kevin Moloney ( U2\, Sinéad O’Connor) in the historic studios at Citizen Vinyl in Asheville\, North Carolina. This is the third recorded project by the band. \nStevie Tombstone’s debut full length release\, 730 AM\, featured performances by members of Wilco\, Jason and the Scorchers\, The Bad Livers\, and The Georgia Satellites\, and offered tracks that peaked on the Satellite Radio charts. After several comps and EPs\, his 2011 release\, Greenwood\, reintroduced Stevie to Americana and folk listeners with the autobiographical tale of his journey to Greenwood to mark the grave of then unhonored Robert Johnson.\nIn addition to producing and writing for other artists\, Stevie still maintains a hardcore troubadour outlook\, enjoying a grassroots following that’s kept him on the trail for the last three decades.
