SUMMARY:Afro Rhythm with Chinobay & Jordan 11.8
DESCRIPTION:Ugandan musician Chinobay and blind born singer-songwriter Jordan Scheffer create a powerful musical conversation that bridges continents\, traditions\, and genres. Rooted in African rhythms\, storytelling\, and global fusion\, their performances weave together the warm\, expressive voice of Jordan Scheffer with Chinobay’s masterful musicianship on instruments including the Kora\, Kalimba\, Endongo\, and Talking drum.\nTogether\, they offer an experience that is both deeply intimate and joyfully alive — blending Afro-funk\, folk\, soul\, and world music into a sound that feels borderless. Their connection on stage is built on mentorship\, friendship\, and a shared belief in music as a force for healing\, cultural exchange\, and connection. \nJoin us for a powerful afternoon of rhythm\, culture\, and artistry that resonates deep within the soul.\nPart of our Afro Rhythm series produced by Chinobay and White Horse Black Mountain.

SUMMARY:Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers
DESCRIPTION:STANDING ROOM ONLY \nTEEN JESUS AND THE JEAN TEASERS\nARIA Award-winning indie-rock four piece Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers – Anna Ryan (they/she; vocals/guitar)\, Scarlett McKahey (she/her; guitar/vocals)\, Jaida Stephenson (she/her; bass) and Neve van Boxsel (she/her; drums) – have gone from strength to strength since the release of their debut EP Pretty Good For A Girl Band (2022)\, with its lead single ‘Girl Sports’ landing at #55 on the triple j Hottest 100. Their debut album I Love You (2023) landed at #6 on the ARIA Charts\, placed at #52 on the Hottest 100 (‘I Used To Be Fun’)\, with its deluxe I Love You Too (2024) featuring new singles ‘Dull’ ft. Softcult and ‘Please Me’ ft. The Linda Lindas – the former landing at #187 in triple j’s Hottest 200 this year. \nNow based across Ngunnawal/Canberra\, and Naarm/Melbourne\, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers are just as concerned about issues facing today’s women\, non-binary people and young people everywhere as they are with making music that continues to push boundaries and expectations. They are ambassadors for Green Music’s No Music on a Dead Planet\, played Rising Tide on Parliament House steps\, contributed to the Parliament inquiry into challenges and opportunities within the Australian live music industry and are firm supporters of Michael’s Rule. This is a band never to be pigeonholed\, and definitely never underestimated.

SUMMARY:Rumpelstiltskin - Playhouse Jr. - 11/12-11/15
DESCRIPTION:\nA world premiere musical spun from the Grimm Brothers’ classic — a tale of gold\, grit\, and a touch of magic\, set to a captivating score that fuses folk\, rap\, and percussion. \nThe kingdom is in crisis\, the villagers are hungry\, and their future rests in the hands of a poor miller’s daughter. Her only hope is a daring bargain with a mysterious stranger — one that tests the worth of a name\, the power of trust\, and the courage to spark change. \nThis new musical explores the cost of greed and the grace of kindness\, reminding us that what truly matters can’t be measured in gold. \nBe the first to experience a brand-new American musical by Ben Mackel\, developed through the Playhouse Jr. Licensing New Works Initiative. Created entirely under our roof\, this world premiere offers new theatre for all — big and small — continuing a bright new chapter of storytelling from the Playhouse’s stage to the world’s. \nEvent Times:\n11/12 – 7pm\, 11/13 – 7pm\, 11/14 – 2pm & 6pm \, 11/15 – 2pm

SUMMARY:Jesse Roper
DESCRIPTION:STANDING ROOM ONLY \nJESSE ROPER\nJesse Roper is a modern-day troubadour; a Canadian artist defined by his authenticity and adventurous spirit; guitar in hand and a grin on his face. \nJesse\, along with long-time bandmates the Pretty Good Band\, has spent much of the last few years travelling the highways\, byways and backroads of North America\, bringing his own brand of modern\, indie-infused Americana blues to fervent audiences across the continent. Known for his powerhouse live performances\, Jesse is truly electrifying on stage – his soulful vocals expanding across silky guitars and hard-hitting grooves. You’d never guess that this soldier of the six string – all mischief\, mayhem and virtuoso guitar playing – experienced crippling stage-fright long into his 20s. Today\, the stage is his home and he’s inviting you in\, cold one in hand\, for one helluva good time. \nOf course\, he’s more than a magnetising stage presence and great hair – Jesse has the goods to back this up. A master at connecting his personal experiences to his songwriting\, he crafts wildly entertaining narratives of the challenges and eccentricities of life\, pulling inspiration from all that surrounds him. His musings on love (both won and lost)\, the call of the road and the promise of what’s round the corner draw similarities to JJ Cale\, Leon Bridges\, and Alabama Shakes. His innate musical talent and flexibility of style have seen him play with soul icon Booker T. Jones\, rock veteran Colin James\, blues belter Beth Hart\, and Canadian legend Burton Cummings. Across streaming platforms\, he’s racked up over 500\,000 monthly listeners and millions of streams. \nWhile based in Victoria BC\, Jesse is back on the road with the Pretty Good Band throughout 2026. All seasoned musicians themselves\, the band is Matt Reid (bass)\, Chris Van Sickle (keys)\, East Coast Pete (guitar) and Brent Norman (drums). “Each one of these guys on their own is funnier and smarter than I am\, but somehow I’m the band leader\,” Jesse laughs. “I’m a lucky lead guy to have these cats in my band. They’re Pretty Good.”

SUMMARY:Eddie 9V
DESCRIPTION:STANDING ROOM ONLY \nEDDIE 9V\nEddie 9V has an endless stockpile of cool stories – and you’ll find twelve of them on his most recent studio album Saratoga\, released in November 2024 on the fabled Ruf Records label. A thrilling mix of Southern soul\, blues\, rock\, and funk\, Saratoga proved to be a gamechanger: a road trip-ready record filled with razor-sharp observations\, vintage textures\, and raw humanity. It also marked a major career milestone: Eddie 9V’s soulful sound began reaching hundreds of thousands of new fans across the globe. \nNow signed to Easy Eye Sound — the Nashville-based label founded by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys — Eddie 9V is preparing to release a brand-new album in 2026. And the momentum keeps growing. Since Saratoga dropped\, Eddie’s monthly listeners on Spotify have exploded from 8\,000 to peaking at over 800\,000.. Songs like “Halo\,” “Saratoga” and “Love Moves Slow” have become SiriusXM Spectrum-certified tracks\, gaining steady spins and major audience love. \nBut this rise is years in the making. From the day he first slung a guitar on a local Georgia stage\, Eddie 9V (born Brooks Mason) has been an artist to watch. First cutting his teeth in cover bands and regional blues circuits\, he made the leap to full-time frontman with a name that couldn’t be ignored. “I wanted to start from scratch – and I ain’t never heard of no bluesman named Eddie 9V.” \nThat leap paid off. His early albums Left My Soul In Memphis (2019) and Little Black Flies (2021) turned heads for their wild energy and vintage flair. 2022’s Capricorn was a breakout moment\, earning rave reviews from Classic Rock\, The Guardian\, and more. It debuted at #1 on the blues charts before being dethroned by Bonnie Raitt — “a cool story to be able to say\,” Eddie laughs. \nBy the time Saratoga arrived\, Eddie 9V had evolved into a full-spectrum songwriter\, tapping into deep wells of soul and storytelling alongside his brother and longtime collaborator Lane Kelly. Much of the album was recorded at their Echo Deco Studio in Atlanta\, with some sessions at Denver’s Crown Lanes Studio. From the disco-tinged horns of the title track to the fuzzed-out dreamscape of “Delta\,” it’s a record that widened the lens without losing the grit. \nNow with a major label partner\, national tours\, SiriusXM airplay\, and streaming growth that shows no signs of slowing\, Eddie 9V is poised for the next chapter. A new album is on the horizon. The band is sharper than ever. And if Saratoga was the ignition\, what’s coming next is the open highway. \n“I’m already writing new songs\,” he says. “You never stop.”

Grandson Gabriel Prokofiev offers his own unlikely pairing with the first-ever concerto for Asheville’s own Minimoog\, where acid house collides with the classical and shattering convention becomes a family tradition. \nKabalevsky: Overture from Colas Breugnon\nGabriel Prokofiev: Concerto for Minimoog Synthesizer and Orchestra\nSergei Prokofiev: Romeo & Juliet Suite

SUMMARY:Mama’s Broke: ‘Reunion’ Album Release Tour
DESCRIPTION:SEATED SHOW (general admission seating) \nMAMA’S BROKE\nFor more than a decade\, Mama’s Broke\, the Canadian duo of Amy Lou Keeler and Lisa Maria\, have forged a style carried across landscapes rather than tied to one. Their forthcoming 12-song LP Reunion\, out August 28 via Free Dirt Records and Forward Music Group\, follows years in near-constant motion\, bringing their folk-without-borders approach to small clubs\, DIY spaces\, and everywhere in between. Winners of the Canadian Folk Music Award for Ensemble of the Year for their 2017 debut Count the Wicked\, their music is rooted in long days playing for passing crowds and traveling by foot\, as well as in the deep wells of folk lineage they’ve tapped into across Eastern Canada\, Appalachia\, Ireland\, and beyond. Their sound doesn’t belong to any one place so much as it passes through them\, grounded in the traditions that shaped it. \nThat foundation was built long before stages and studio sessions\, in traveling communities where music functioned as both currency and connection. The two met within a global network of musicians funding their way through shared songs\, carrying only what they could as they traded melodies and stories across the miles. Playing for hours at a time on the street demanded a repertoire that could hold attention and sustain emotion\, drawing them deep into traditional material and the discipline of close harmony. Over time\, the songs became a common language\, connecting what came before with the music they were making together. \nBuilding on their JUNO-nominated album Narrow Line (2022)\, Reunion reflects a world coming apart in plain sight\, tracing fractured communities\, the erosion of shared ground\, and the growing awareness that the systems we were taught to trust no longer hold or deliver the promises they were meant to keep. The songs don’t preach or prescribe; they reflect\, holding up a mirror and leaving space for something else to take shape. \nRecorded just outside Nashville in Goodlettsville\, Tennessee\, Reunion features subtle contributions from bassist Paul Kowert (Gillian Welch & David Rawlings) and others\, adding depth without pulling focus from the record’s acoustic core. At its heart\, Mama’s Broke remains what it has always been: two voices\, intertwined\, both fragile and enduring. Reunion asks what it means to make something that lasts: not a place you’re from\, or even a place you return to\, but what you make together\, and how long it lasts\, if you tend to it. \nMama’s Broke are touring their new album in North America and Europe throughout 2026 and 2027.

SUMMARY:King Buffalo w/ L.A. Witch
DESCRIPTION:STANDING ROOM ONLY \nKING BUFFALO\nKing Buffalo is the trio of vocalist/guitarist Sean McVay\, bassist Dan Reynolds\, and drummer Scott Donaldson. Since forming in 2013\, the self-proclaimed “heavy psych” band has made its name via 4 Full-lengths\, 4EPs\, and tours with Clutch\, Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats\, All Them Witches\, The Sword\, and Elder. \nL.A. WITCH\nL.A. Witch have always exuded an aura of effortless cool\, whether it manifested as the Americana noir and laconic back-to-basics rock n’ roll of their self-titled debut or the blistering austere adventurism of their sophomore album Play With Fire. The band—comprised of Sade Sanchez (guitar/vocals)\, Irita Pai (bass)\, and Ellie English (drums)—began as an informal affair\, but the sultry and beguiling reverb-draped songs they created caught on with the public\, moving the project beyond the insular space of the band’s friends and peers in Southern California into the broader world. On their latest album\, DOGGOD\, the trio push their craft beyond their previous creative and geographical confines\, opting to craft the material in Paris\, recording the tracks at Motorbass Studio on the Rue de Martyrs. DOGGOD explores broader swaths of sonic terrain\, employs a greater arsenal of tones\, and probes larger existential and cosmic themes\, all while retaining the band’s signature sense of the forbidden\, the forsaken\, and the foreboding.\nDOGGOD is a way of tackling the universal riddle tangled in the spiritual nature of love and devotion. “I feel like I’m some sort of servant or slave to love\,” says Sanchez. “There’s a willingness to die for love in the process of serving it or suffering for it or in search of it… just in the way a loyal\, devoted servant dog would.” The album title is a palindrome fusing together DOG and GOD—an exaltation of the submissive and a subversion of the divine. It’s a nod to the purity of dogs and an acknowledgement of their unconditional love and protective nature that’s at odds with the various pejoratives associated with the species. “There is this symbolic connection between women and dogs that expresses women’s subordinate position in society\,” Sanchez explains. “And anything that embodies such divine characteristics never deserved to be a word used as an insult.” \nThese conflicted explorations of love and subservience manifest themselves in L.A. Witch’s fusion of their trademark smooth and smoky garage alchemy with a newfound utilization of post-punk’s disciplined reserve and icy instrumentation. Album opener “Icicle” captures the band journeying out of the proto-punk\, psychedelia\, and gritty riffage of the ‘70s into the chorus-drenched guitars and forlorn minimalism of Joy Division and early The Cure. A parallel is drawn between romantic suicide and martyrdom that carries over into the second song\, “Kiss Me Deep.” Here Sanchez describes a love so pure that it transcends time and carries over into multiple lifetimes. It’s a song about passion delivered in the worldly and wounded stoicism of early goth pioneers. From there\, the band segues into the lead single “777\,” a song about devotion to the point of death. A propulsive beat\, a driving distorted riff\, and Sanchez’s ethereal vocals come together to create a song that’s both dire in its fatalism and sensual in its faithful passion.

SUMMARY:Exhibition on Screen | The Danish Collector: Delacroix to Gauguin
DESCRIPTION:For many years no-one was interested in the art of the Impressionists. Artists like Monet\, Degas and Renoir were vilified\, attacked\, and left penniless as a result. Then\, something remarkable happened. A new breed of collectors emerged and\, before long\, they were battling to acquire any work by these new\, radical artists that they could find. Amongst them was the visionary Danish businessman Wilhelm Hansen. It was an extraordinary moment in art history; full of drama\, intrigue and subterfuge. Some collectors we may recognize and some we may not\, but Hansen amassed a remarkable collection housed at his summer home\, Ordrupgaard\, on the outskirts of Copenhagen. Exhibition on Screen tells his fascinating story and\, with exclusive access to a sell- out exhibition at London’s Royal Academy\, brings the extraordinary collection to the big-screen in glorious high-definition. From Hansen’s beautiful house and gardens at Ordrupgaard to the streets of bohemian Paris\, this film takes you on a journey to discover some of the best examples of 19th-century French art ever collected.
