DESCRIPTION:STANDING ROOM ONLY \nJERRY’S DEAD\nJerry’s Dead pays tribute to the music of Jerry Garcia. Not exactly a Grateful Dead cover band\, this quartet from Asheville\, North Carolina\, shines a spotlight specifically on songs lead by Jerry Garcia\, who fronted the Grateful Dead in an alternating fashion with his bandmates. The “long strange list” of Garcia compositions and his own wide range of cover songs comes to life with Jerry’s Dead’s exciting interpretations from this iconic catalog. Further extending their tribute\, Jerry’s Dead includes songs lead by Garcia in his many side projects throughout his accomplished career\, including the Jerry Garcia Band and his work with mandolinist David Grisman. To date Jerry’s Dead has performed well over 150 different Garcia pieces\, reinterpreting each in unique fashion to the delight of their growing fan base. \nJerry’s Dead features Tim Marsh on guitar and lead vocals and includes Dan Pederson on bass and vocals\, Gus Vigo on keys and vocals\, and Lee Kram on drums and vocals. Since their debut on June 21\, 2021\, at The Straightaway Cafe\, Jerry’s Dead has brought Garcia’s music to many of Western Carolina’s well known breweries and music venues\, including Highland Brewing Company\, The Grey Eagle\, Pisgah Brewing Company\, The Asheville Music Hall\, and The French Broad River Brewing Company\, which hosts Jerry’s Dead every Thursday evening for two sets of free music. This weekly residency has become a real draw for the band\, creating a space for vendors\, dancers\, and music lovers to commune regularly.\nOn occasion\, Jerry’s Dead has hosted some very special guests\, including Rob Barraco of The Dead\, Dark Star Orchestra\, Phil Lesh Quintet and Zen Tricksters; Lisa Mackey\, also of D.S.O.; Julian Pinelli\, who played fiddle with Peter Rowan\, a bluegrass bandmate of Garcia in Old and in the Way; and Joe Marcinek of the Joe Marcinek Band and Dead Funk Summit\, featuring George Porter Jr. of The Meters and Melvin Seals of the Jerry Garcia Band. In this two-day workshop\, students will complete two original paintings while exploring innovative mixed-media techniques. \nYou’ll create: \nOne oil painting using a brayer and brushes to apply the paint.\nOne oil painting on paper\, enhanced with soft pastel exploring a different surface and approach\nThis workshop is designed for artists who want to expand their creative process and experiment with new techniques in a supportive\, small-group setting. For Anne painting begins with what you cannot see. She poses questions to herself before starting a painting. What is drawing me to this subject? What is the story I want to tell? What am I trying to express in each painting? No single mark is precious. No fear is allowed to enter the process behind the easel. All elements of the composition must work in unity. This process is critical for infusing energy into my work and allows me to respond directly to the piece as it evolves. \nAnne’s journey as an artist has been a fulfilling adventure\, leading her from fashion and textile designer in NYC\, to teaching and developing art curricula for children in Philadelphia and Chicago. In 2013 Anne turned her focus to fine art. After viewing a pastel exhibition at the Noyse Museum of Art in Hammonton N.J. Anne began her journey with the pastel medium. The tangible aspects of the medium\, with the ability to draw\, paint\, layer\, and combine with other mediums has led her on an energetic journey pushing the qualities of pastel in her work. Anne’s work has been featured in the Pastel Journal multiple times\, Pratique Des Arts and Strokes of Genius and the 2022 and 2024 IAPS Souvenir Book. She has written multiple articles for the Pastel Journal and Artist Magazine. Anne is the past president and workshop chair of the Piedmont Pastel Society. In 2019 she participated in the Dueling Demonstration event at the International Association of Pastel Societies convention which occurs every two years. In 2022 and 2024 Anne was invited back to be one of the faculty artists to demonstrate her techniques at the convention. Anne holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and currently lives in Pickens\, South Carolina.

This week we have Denver legend Ben Roy at FBRB! \nIf you aren’t familiar with Ben Roy\, he’s been taking comedy audiences by storm since 2004\, bringing an unparalleled energy and unique voice to the stage. Often compared to Lewis Black or Bill Hicks due to his passionate\, ranting approach\, Roy has a style that is definitively his own. \nRoy cut his comedic teeth in Denver at the world famous Comedy Works. Since then\, Ben has been selected to perform at the Montreal Just for Laughs Comedy Festival (for New Faces\, The Nasty Show\, and his own hour show)\, Just For Laughs Toronto\, Just For Laughs Chicago\, The New York Comedy Festival\, Austin’s South by Southwest festival (where he was an official invitee for both music and comedy in the same year)\, and many more. \nRoy has been featured on HBO’s Funny as Hell series; as well as on the Comedy Central shows Adam DeVine’s House Party\, Corporate\, @midnight\, This Is Not Happening\, and TruTV’s Talk Show The Game Show. Ben has also released five stand-up comedy albums and was listed as one of Variety’s Top 10 Comics to Watch. DESCRIPTION:APLR Presents: Magic Tuber Stringband \nFriday\, July 31st\, 2026 \nAyurPrana Listening Room – 312 Haywood Rd\, Asheville\, NC 28806 \nDoors 6 PM || Show 7PM \nMagic Tuber Stringband \nMagic Tuber Stringband\, hailing from North Carolina\, probes the undercurrents of the landscapes around them. Highly skilled players and writers\, the trio are leaders within the burgeoning avant composition world utilizing folk instrumentation. Their music appears to weave in and out of the fabric of their surroundings\, reflecting their time spent living across the Southeast and studying its regional folk traditions and natural histories. Having performed recently at Big Ears\, Hopscotch\, Sound & Gravity (and many other places along the way) the group’s music resonates well beyond their regional roots. Their newest record\, Heavy Water\, will be out May 22 on the venerable Thrill Jockey Records. The ensemble continues to stretch the parameters of acoustic instrumental expression with masterful flourishes of dense\, textural arrangements\, subtle minimalist gestures and deft improvisation.

DESCRIPTION:– LIMITED PATIO SEATING IS FIRST COME FIRST SERVE \nBETH LEE\, KEVIN SMITH & MIRIAM ALLEN \nBeth Lee is a bluegrass and Americana artist rooted in the traditions of the genre and driven by a deep passion for lyrical storytelling. Inspired by her roots in the Hill Country of Austin\, Texas and her home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina\, her sense of place is woven into every lyric. Songs that invite the listener on a journey — to be taken away by a story\, or simply reminded of the human highway we’re all sharing. \nIn a city where the song writers are committed to authenticity\, Kevin Smith is a beacon and mentor for exactly that. His voice is of a man who emerged from the mountains hell bent on crafting songs that are true to his life and relevant to ours. At AVLfest in 2024\, a song writer from Nashville told Fiddle Man that he drove six hours to see Planefolk just to get back to the emotional roots of songwriting that can get lost in production houses of Nashville. We all need to get back to the core of our humanity\, Kevin helps us get there. \nMulti-instrumentalist Miriam Allen has spent hundreds of days & nights alone in remote Appalachian coves swimming & writing songs in her anchored sailboat. Curious about other cultures & nature\, she is a lifelong outdoor adventurer\, backpacker\, naturalist\, & activist for humanitarian & conservation efforts. Her songs are emotionally charged & give a voice to those who often don’t have one: wild spaces\, wounded souls & playful humans alike. From rowdy & gritty to soothing & heartfelt; Miriam’s songs are pure passion.
