SUMMARY:Rainbow Girls
DESCRIPTION:STANDING ROOM ONLY \nRAINBOW GIRLS\nThe Rainbow Girls are an eclectic folk\, Americana\, and indie-rock trio from Northern California\, featuring core members Erin Chapin\, Caitlin Gowdey\, and Vanessa May. Known for their soul-touching four-part harmonies and a “stomp-folk” sound\, the multi-instrumentalists easily switch between guitars\, ukulele\, accordion\, harmonica\, and percussion during their energetic live shows. \nThe group was formed in 2010 at an underground open mic called “Bean Night” in Isla Vista\, California. Living together in a dorm known as the “Rainbow House” near the University of California\, Santa Barbara\, the band initially started as a collective of female musicians before evolving into a trio. They honed their grassroots following by busking on the streets of Europe and playing at local farmers’ markets before eventually relocating to the countryside just north of the San Francisco Bay Area. \nKnown to describe themselves as “a gang of sweet angels punching you in the heart\,” the Rainbow Girls prioritize community\, resilience\, and genuine audience connection. Their songwriting reflects the human experience\, tackling themes of love\, honest self-reflection\, and social justice.

SUMMARY:GUIDED OPEN STUDIO - SEPTEMBER EDITION - WITH ANNE STRUTZ\, PSA\, IAPS-MC
DESCRIPTION:Wednesdays from 10-3\nSeptember 2\, 9\, 16\, 23 \nJoin Anne in the studio for an open-format pastel class designed to deepen your skills in this richly expressive medium. Each session begins with a guided morning exercise exploring essential artistic principles and techniques that bring depth\, energy\, and confidence to your work. Bring your own reference materials to create a personalized studio experience. Pastels\, paper\, and sketching and underpainting supplies are provided\, with premium sanded paper available for purchase. You’re also welcome to bring your own pastels and discover which colors will best complement and expand your palette. \nClass size limited to 6 \nARTIST BIO: \nAnne Strutz\, PSA\, IAPS-MC\, is an artist in motion\, pushing boundaries by infusing movement and energy into her paintings. For Anne painting begins with what you cannot see. She poses questions to herself before starting a painting. What is drawing me to this subject? What is the story I want to tell? What am I trying to express in each painting? No single mark is precious. No fear is allowed to enter the process behind the easel. All elements of the composition must work in unity. This process is critical for infusing energy into my work and allows me to respond directly to the piece as it evolves. \nAnne’s journey as an artist has been a fulfilling adventure\, leading her from fashion and textile designer in NYC\, to teaching and developing art curricula for children in Philadelphia and Chicago. In 2013 Anne turned her focus to fine art. After viewing a pastel exhibition at the Noyse Museum of Art in Hammonton N.J. Anne began her journey with the pastel medium. The tangible aspects of the medium\, with the ability to draw\, paint\, layer\, and combine with other mediums has led her on an energetic journey pushing the qualities of pastel in her work. Anne’s work has been featured in the Pastel Journal multiple times\, Pratique Des Arts and Strokes of Genius and the 2022 and 2024 IAPS Souvenir Book. She has also written multiple articles for the Pastel Journal and Artist Magazine. \nAnne is the past president and workshop chair of the Piedmont Pastel Society. In 2019 she participated in the Dueling Demonstration event at the International Association of Pastel Societies convention which occurs every two years. In 2022 and 2024 Anne was invited back to be one of the faculty artists to demonstrate her techniques at the convention. Anne holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and currently lives in Pickens\, South Carolina.

SUMMARY:URSA Asheville Presents: A Performance of Coltrane's *Interstellar Space* - With Jeff Arnal & Steve Alford
DESCRIPTION:URSA ASHEVILLE AND APLR Present: A PERFORMANCE OF COLTRANE’S *INTERSTELLAR SPACE* \nTuesday\, September 22nd\, 2026 \nAyurPrana Listening Room – 312 Haywood Rd\, Asheville\, NC 28806 \nDoors 6 PM || Show 7 PM \nAs part of *Giant Steps: Celebrating 100 Years of John Coltrane*\, URSA Asheville and AyurPrana Listening Room present a free\, RSVP performance of Coltrane’s *Interstellar Space* on Tuesday\, September 22\, 2026\, at 7:00 p.m. The performance will be followed by a conversation with the audience and a Q&A moderated by Dr. Bill Bares. \nRecorded on February 22\, 1967 — just months before Coltrane’s death\, and not released until 1974 — *Interstellar Space* paired Coltrane’s tenor saxophone with the drums of Rashied Ali in an extended suite of duets\, stripped of piano and bass entirely. Widely regarded as a landmark of free jazz\, the album remains one of the most daring and spiritually charged recordings of Coltrane’s career\, and one of the last studio statements he would make. \nFor this performance\, saxophonist Steve Alford of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and drummer Jeff Arnal of the Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center (BMCM+AC) will take on Coltrane and Ali’s roles\, bringing their own voices to the duo’s open\, unaccompanied dialogue. \nFollowing the performance\, Alford will speak about Coltrane’s music and legacy\, and Arnal — who knew Rashied Ali personally — will share stories about Ali and discuss the practice of free drumming. \nThe evening is a collaboration between URSA Asheville\, AyurPrana Listening Room\, and the two musicians\, offered free to the public as part of URSA’s mission to bring first-rate jazz to Asheville. RSVP and additional information are available at **ursaasheville.org**. \n“URSA is proud to partner with AyurPrana in presenting this unique guided tour of the complex worlds of late-Coltrane era free jazz\, featuring two of the most experienced and creative exponents of free jazz in North Carolina\,” said Dr. Bill Bares\, President and Founder\, URSA Asheville. \nAbout the Artists \nJeff Arnal \nJeff Arnal is an American percussionist\, composer\, and community organizer working across experimental\, improvised\, and interdisciplinary music\, shaped by more than three decades of work in contemporary classical music\, jazz\, and free improvisation. \nA student of percussionist Milford Graves and composer Stuart Saunders Smith\, Arnal has recorded for Clean Feed\, Mahakala Music\, NoBusiness Records\, and Generate Records\, and his drumming has been praised by *The Wire* for its “balletic sense of time and imaginative deployment of colour.” \nHe is Executive Director of the Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center in Asheville\, where he has led the organization since 2016. \nSteve Alford \nSteve Alford is a multi-instrumentalist and educator specializing in contemporary improvisational music. A saxophone graduate of the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music\, he toured extensively across the United States and Europe before settling in Chicago\, developing expertise on harmony clarinets and performing across straight-ahead jazz\, modern improvised music\, and experimental indie-rock. \nAfter relocating to Asheville\, Alford taught at Mars Hill University and UNC Asheville while earning his Master’s in Jazz from the University of Tennessee\, and later served as coordinator for Jazz and Contemporary Improvisation Studies at the University of Minnesota Morris. \nHe has developed a widely respected pedagogy centered on multi-lateral ear training and melodic immersion\, and leads a range of adventurous ensembles\, including the 11-piece big band Rational Discourse and the punk-jazz E.Normus Trio. \nThis performance is part of *Giant Steps: Celebrating 100 Years of John Coltrane*\, a festival of performances\, education\, and conversation celebrating the life\, music\, and legacy of John Coltrane\, presented as part of the worldwide Coltrane 100 centennial. \nAll ages

SUMMARY:APLR Presents: Jane Kramer
DESCRIPTION:APLR Presents: Jane Kramer \nSaturday\, September 19th\, 2026 \nAyurPrana Listening Room – 312 Haywood Rd\, Asheville\, NC 28806 \nDoors 6PM || Show 7 PM \nJane Kramer \nLauded by UK music reviewer Three Chords and the Truth as sounding like she was “…born to bohemian poets and raised in the mountains by Emmylou Harris\,” Asheville\, North Carolina songstress Jane Kramer has garnered international recognition for the heartrending originality of her vocals and the heavy-hitting lyrical eloquence of her songwriting. \nWith deep roots in the musical traditions\, culture\, and lore of her beloved Appalachia\, Kramer’s songs are introspective\, gracefully gritty\, and fiercely memorable. While her recorded songs have held fast on folk and roots radio DJ charts for months at a time\, Kramer’s live performances are equally as poignant and engaging\, artfully lifting the veil between audience and performer with bittersweet—and often humorous—recognition of our flawed human experience. \nKramer has been touring and recording nationally and internationally for over a decade\, playing for enchanted audiences in listening rooms\, theaters\, festivals\, living rooms\, hospice centers\, prisons\, and arts councils alike. This has gained her a loyal following from the southeastern U.S.\, where she calls home\, to Portland\, Oregon\, Scotland\, and Florence\, Italy. \nA mother\, former social worker\, domestic violence crisis counselor\, and avid humanitarian\, Kramer continues to perform and teach about the songwriting process in prisons\, shelters for the unhoused\, programs for at-risk youth\, and even animal rescues\, sharing her message of music as a powerful tool for healing\, connection\, and compassion. \nQuoted as “…an artist on the rise” by acclaimed American songwriter Mary Gauthier and “one of the purest voices in modern Americana” by Blue Ridge Outdoors\, Kramer has performed with Joan Osborne\, Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls\, Leyla McCalla\, The Steep Canyon Rangers\, Sarah Siskind\, Gretchen Peters\, Malcolm Holcombe\, Josh Goforth\, Verlon Thompson\, and Shawn Mullins. \nMoon & Mother\, her fourth full-length album and first release of new music in six years\, was recorded at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville\, NC. The album shows the artist reaching new levels of mastery with her songwriting craft while showcasing surprising new power and agility with the effervescent instrument of her voice. \nWorking with producer Lillie Syracuse allowed Kramer to push the edges of her folk identity and infused the album with a more expansive\, lush\, and nuanced soundscape\, resulting in a ten-song collection of Kramer’s strongest\, most mature\, and compelling work yet. \nThe album explores themes of motherhood\, marriage\, reclaiming self and artistry amidst those responsibilities\, and the loss of Kramer’s beloved mother early in her own motherhood journey. \nPulling from some of Asheville’s most accomplished and renowned musicians\, Kramer’s band includes Chris Rosser and River Guerguerian of Free Planet Radio\, Matthew Smith (Amy Ray Band\, The Honeycutters)\, Duane Simpson and Jake Wolf (MAMA\, Dirty Logic)\, and Franklin Keel (Asheville Symphony Orchestra). The full band will celebrate the early release of Moon & Mother with a performance of the complete record on September 19\, 2026\, at AyurPrana Listening Room in Asheville\, NC. \nPhysical copies of the album on vinyl and CD will be available at the show\, and the album will be available on streaming platforms worldwide in October. \nAll ages\nTickets only sold through DICE.\nPay What You Can Ticket Pricing – Support Local Artist\n$15 ($18.19)\n$20 ($23.70)\n$25 ($29.21)\n$30 ($34.72)\n$50 ($56.76)

Since emerging in 2023\, the Los Angeles-based singer\, songwriter\, producer\, and multi-instrumentalist carved out his own world through fan-favorite releases including the for you EP [2024] and for us EP [2025]\, while also linking with childhood friend 2hollis for breakout song “afraid.” The FADER christened him “pop’s new aura prince\,” OnesToWatch hailed him as “pop music’s next great disruptor\,” and Zane Lowe recognized him as an artist to shape the sound of 2026 in his 26 in ‘26 list. Introduced by the tone-setting single “Let You Go\,” nate steps into the fullest expression of his world yet on his full-length debut album\, reborn\, music that jolts you back to life with flashes of falsetto\, club-quaking bass\, and sensory-flooding production. For nate\, rebirth is not a metaphor. After surviving an accidental overdose as a teenager\, getting sober\, and finding a deeper sense of spirituality\, nate began to understand music as proof of a second chance. On reborn\, nate doesn’t just tell a story of survival; he traces what comes after it\, channeling sobriety\, spirituality\, love\, longing\, and the rush of being alive into a debut about becoming.
