We will explore various techniques such as working methods\, substrates\, drying times\, opaque and transparent color\, pigments and powders\, blending\, color schemes\, glazing\, transfer/printmaking techniques\, creating textures\, adding collage and more.  Plenty of demos and individual discussions as well as time to work on your own pieces. \nAll skill levels would benefit from this class\, especially beginners. (Advanced techniques are an option for those who have taken a prior class.)   \nGina will provide 4 oz. of cold wax\, tools to borrow\, and R&F pigment sticks for class use\, 2 sheets of Arches Oil paper\, various mark making tools to share and samples of materials such as stencils\, pan pastels\, and a few collage materials\, etc.  Additional wax will be available for sale. DESCRIPTION:Asheville\, NC — On August 29\, 2026\, at 7:30pm\, Missy Bell of Mouse House Productions will premiere her debut feature film: Erased\, at the Diana Wortham Center for the Performing Arts. The tender-hearted drama stars local actors Thomas L. Townsend\, Elias Hamilton\, and Lauren H. Davis. \nWhen Missy Bell wrote the screenplay for her debut feature film\, she had no way of knowing shooting would land in the wake of Hurricane Helene.  \nCo-producers Missy and Michael Bell\, joked with the crew\, “If we can flush\, we can film!” as production dates approached for shooting the hope-core drama\, Erased. \nMichael said\, “It ended up that just one day before the deadline we’d set for ourselves\, we got non-potable water back in the pipes.” Filming took place in November and December of 2024\, and the film was completed in September 2025. \nMissy and Michael run their production company\, Mouse House Productions\, in a collaborative and cooperative manner\, putting kindness first and making sure that everyone who works on the film gets a cut of the film’s profit. The premiere event\, scheduled for August 29th at the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts\, is no exception. Missy said\, “This event will serve to launch Erased into screening all over the world. We’re excited to celebrate this milestone with our community right here in Asheville.” \nThe premiere event will feature live performances from the film’s composer (Joshua Hummel) and soundtrack musicians\, a screening of the film\, remarks from the filmmakers\, a red carpet\, merch\, and a mixer with the cast and crew following the screening\, where audience members can get autographs and mingle with the actors and other creatives in person. “It’s a red carpet comeback from Helene for the entire community. I cannot wait to celebrate this film and what it means\, knowing what we’ve all overcome!” \nAbout the Film: Erased takes place over One Crazy Night\, and is the story of Evan\, a thirty-something business man working on the deal of his life. When the now 18 year old son he chose to abandon at birth appears at his door in the middle of the night\, Evan is forced to choose between the deal and the possibility of a  relationship with his son. An early access reviewer said: “[Erased is] tender\, funny\, mysterious\, and leaves the viewer with curiosities\, rounding out an excellent cinematic experience.” \nThe Asheville Premiere of Erased will take place on August 29\, 2026 at 7:30 PM (doors and red carpet at 7PM) at the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts. DESCRIPTION:(FREE) Ann Watcher will be on hand to share her techniques and experience in oil paintings. \nAnn’s inspiration is creating a visual experience. She describes herself as a painter of color and expression. It is not only subject matter that intrigues her\, but the play of shapes and colors and light against one another whether an old house\, a boat\, or a velvet hat. She strives to put modern touches of different colors around the canvas to express what she feels and sees and often blends elements of realism and abstraction to create a dynamic composition. Two of her floral paintings were selected to appear in season three of the Showtime series\, “Homeland” and another floral was featured in a commercial for the Levine Cancer Center in Charlotte. Duke University Medical Pavilion and Elon University have commissioned Ann’s art.

Often compared to Lewis Black or Bill Hicks due to his passionate\, ranting approach\, Roy has a style that is definitively his own. \nRoy cut his comedic teeth in Denver at the world famous Comedy Works. Since then\, Ben has been selected to perform at the Montreal Just for Laughs Comedy Festival (for New Faces\, The Nasty Show\, and his own hour show)\, Just For Laughs Toronto\, Just For Laughs Chicago\, The New York Comedy Festival\, Austin’s South by Southwest festival (where he was an official invitee for both music and comedy in the same year)\, and many more. \nRoy has been featured on HBO’s Funny as Hell series; as well as on the Comedy Central shows Adam DeVine’s House Party\, Corporate\, @midnight\, This Is Not Happening\, and TruTV’s Talk Show The Game Show. Ben has also released five stand-up comedy albums and was listed as one of Variety’s Top 10 Comics to Watch. DESCRIPTION:Pianist Aaron Diehl has quietly redefined the boundary between jazz and classical music\, building an international career distinguished by stylistic fluency\, intellectual rigor\, and a deep sense of musical lineage. Praised for his “melodic precision\, harmonic erudition\, and elegant restraint” (The New York Times)\, Diehl is increasingly recognized as a singular voice whose work moves freely across genres while remaining grounded in historical awareness. He has worked extensively with figures such as Tyshawn Sorey\, Timo Andres\, Philip Glass\, and Cécile McLorin Salvant\, forging projects that span concerti\, chamber music\, orchestral works\, and jazz performance. In 2023\, Diehl was named as the Artistic Director of 92NY’s Jazz in July Festival\, succeeding the legendary Bill Charlap.

Highly skilled players and writers\, the trio are leaders within the burgeoning avant composition world utilizing folk instrumentation. Their music appears to weave in and out of the fabric of their surroundings\, reflecting their time spent living across the Southeast and studying its regional folk traditions and natural histories. Having performed recently at Big Ears\, Hopscotch\, Sound & Gravity (and many other places along the way) the group’s music resonates well beyond their regional roots. Their newest record\, Heavy Water\, will be out May 22 on the venerable Thrill Jockey Records. The ensemble continues to stretch the parameters of acoustic instrumental expression with masterful flourishes of dense\, textural arrangements\, subtle minimalist gestures and deft improvisation.

DESCRIPTION:Join Anne in the studio for four Wednesdays in July for an open-format pastel class designed to help you develop and refine your skills in this richly expressive medium. Each session will include guided exercises that focus on core artistic principles alongside techniques that bring energy and life to your work. Participants are to bring their own reference materials to personalize their experience. Pastels\, paper\, and a range of supplies for sketching and underpainting will be provided\, with sanded paper available for purchase. \nPlease bring a small sketchbook; 2B (or softer) pencil and a gum eraser; and black\, medium gray and light gray markers. While pastels will be provided\, it is recommended that you bring your own pastels as well so you can learn what colors you may need to add to your personal pastel inventory.
