SUMMARY:Modelface Comedy Presents Joe Zimmerman at The Grey Eagle
DESCRIPTION:Doors: 6:00 PM\nShow: 7:00 PM \nPREMIUM SEATING: $33.00\nADVANCED: $25.00\nDAY OF: $30.00 \n– ALL AGES\n– SEATED SHOW\n– LIMITED NUMBER OF PREMIUM SEATING TICKETS AVAILABLE \nPurchase Tickets: https://www.etix.com/ticket/servlet/s/38211887 \nJOE ZIMMERMAN\n“The combination of Joe’s calming vocalization and inventive writing is a thing of magic. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more enjoyable show.”-Buzzfeed \nJoe grew up in Morgantown\, West Virginia\, and started his comedy career in North Carolina shortly after graduating Davidson College (where obviously\, he was an English major). While starting out in the South\, he launched a tour with three friends\, called “The Beards of Comedy” and landed a record deal with Comedy Central Records. In 2012\, he moved to New York City\, quickly appearing on The Late Late Show and John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show\, as well as Montreal’s Just for Laughs festival. His resume has since grown to include The Tonight Show\, Conan\, Nickelodeon\, Last Comic Standing\, and his own Comedy Central Half Hour\, and the Comedy Cellar’s topical show\, “This Week at the Comedy Cellar”. Joe’s first solo album Smiling at Wolves (2014) reached number two on the iTunes comedy charts\, and shortly after Paste Magazine named him one of 10 best comedians from the south. His second album\, Innocence\, came out on Comedy Central Records (2018) and is played regularly on Sirius XM radio\, and in 2019 he recorded a dry bar special with upwards of million views on YouTube. His first\, fully produced one-hour comedy special “Cult Classic”\, is set to come out in 2023\, directed by Nate Bargatze and produced by 800 Pound Gorilla. \nAside from headlining comedy clubs\, he tours regularly in theaters and arenas with comedy legend Brian Regan and rising super-star Nate Bargatze. \nJoe has also contributed humor writing to The New York Times and The New Yorker\, and has appeared on numerous podcasts and radio\, including 2 Dope Queens\, The Scientists\, Dork Forest\, StarTalk\, Bob Tom\, The Todd Barry Podcast\, and The Artie Lange Show. \nJIM TEWS\nJim Tews was born and raised in Allentown\, Pennsylvania. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard after high school and was stationed in Cleveland where he started stand-up comedy. After completing his enlistment\, he studied Film Production at Cleveland State University. He continued performing standup while in college\, often to the detriment of his grades. In 2011\, after finally finishing college\, he moved to New York City to work as a comedian and writer. When the pandemic hit\, while stuck inside\, Jim taught himself to animate. He currently works as an independent animator and writer and is again regularly leaving the house to perform standup.

SUMMARY:Historic Church Tour
DESCRIPTION:Learn about Flat Rock History \nTours for St. John in the Wilderness \nFLAT ROCK\, N.C. Tours are again available for the Episcopal Church of St. John in the Wilderness in Flat Rock. \nThe church and churchyard (cemetery) tours are sponsored by the St. John Episcopal Church Docents. They start inside the Carriage Door entrance of the church. \nThe tours are free but advance reservations must be made online through the church’s website\, www.stjohnflatrock.org/tours. Space is limited for each tour. \nThe guided tours will be held the third Saturday in November and December. \nThey begin promptly at 11 a.m. and last about an hour. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes. There will be no rain dates. \nThe historically significant churchyard contains graves of un-named 19th century people who were enslaved as well as distinguished political figures\, and local citizens. \nThe church is located at 1895 Greenville Highway. For more information call the church office at 828-693-9783 or visit www.stjohnflatrock.org. \nSt. John in the Wilderness History \nIn 1827\, Charles Baring\, a member of the Baring banking family of England\, built a home in Flat Rock. He and his wife\, Susan\, wanted a summer place to escape the oppressive heat\, humidity\, and malaria of the South Carolina Lowcountry where they lived. \nThe Barings built a chapel on the property of their newly constructed home. Soon after it was built the small wooden structure burned down in a woods fire. In 1833 work began on a second church built of handmade brick. \nIn August of 1836 the Barings deeded their chapel to the Diocese of North Carolina and 20 members of the Flat Rock “summer colony” formed an Episcopal parish. In the 1890s when the Missionary District of Asheville (later Diocese of Western North Carolina) was formed\, St. John in the Wilderness transferred its affiliation. It is the oldest parish in the diocese. \nWith almost all the church members traveling back to the Lowcountry after the summer season\, the church mainly operated during summer months for its first 120 years. So rapid was the growth of the Flat Rock community during the 1830s and 1840s that the parish membership outgrew the capacity of the small chapel. In the early 1850s the decision was made to rebuild the church\, essentially doubling its size. With only a few minor modifications the structure was completed in 1852. It is the one that stands today.
