DESCRIPTION:Elizabeth Holden Gallery’s exhibition The Wondrous World Of Hobey Ford’s Golden Rod Puppets featuring the work of master puppeteer Hobey Ford will be on view at Warren Wilson College from January 23rd to March 7th\, 2025.  \nWarren Wilson’s Art Department is excited to host an exhibition of rod\, foam\, and shadow puppets by the award winning puppeteer\, Hobey Ford. On display will be characters\, stories and set pieces from a range of tales from Ford’s previous shows including a few puppets from friend and mentor Clyde Hollifield. This exhibition will explore how puppetry can engage the imagination of audiences of all ages\, while sharing the process of puppet construction and showcasing Ford’s contributions to the craft.  \nWinner of the UNIMA Citation for Excellence and 3 Jim Henson Foundation grants\, Hobey Ford is known for his excellence in puppetry performance and craft and his skill as a master storyteller. Hobey utilizes his artistic studies from the State University of New York and UNCA to design and construct all of his Golden Rod puppets. His performances present puppetry styles and tales from around the world and feature puppetry styles he has created such as the Peepers hand puppets and his well-loved “Foamies” puppets made from large blocks of foam with inventive mechanisms to create life-like movements. Hobey tours internationally and trains teachers through his involvement with the Kennedy Center of the Northwest Film Forum.  \nThe exhibition opening reception is on January 23rd  from 4:30 – 6:00 PM.  The Elizabeth Holden Gallery is open M-F\, 10- 4pm and Saturdays 1-4pm.

They will also perform the music of Annea Lockwood\, a legendary composer\, sound artist\, and acoustic ecologist and member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters\, who is renowned for her focus on the effects of sound in our environments. \n——–\nDescribed by The New York Times as “key figures from the contemporary music scene… with unmistakable devotion and excitement\,” Yarn/Wire is a New York-based percussion and piano quartet (Sae Hashimoto and Russell Greenberg\, percussion; Laura Barger and Julia Den Boer\, pianos) dedicated to the promotion of creative\, experimental new music. \nSince its formation in 2005\, the ensemble has become a fixture at the world’s preeminent halls and music festivals\, making its German debut in two concerts at the prestigious Donaueschingen Musiktage in 2023. Moon Bride opens! \nSlow Runner is the creation of Michael Flynn\, an Americana-adjacent singer-songwriter based in Western North Carolina. Michael was the 2021 NewSong Music Songwriting Competition Grand Prize Winner; part of his prize package included recording an album at Citizen Studios with producer Gar Ragland. The record\, which was also pressed at Citizen Vinyl\, was released on all platforms on October 11. \nIndie-pop artist Moon Bride (formerly Carly Taich)\, writes about doubt\, faith\, fear and love in a way that’s anything but cliche. Framing her self-aware lyrics with cinematic orchestration and unusual melodies that take us to another dimension\, there is a storybook mysticism to all Moon Bride touches\, with one foot planted in this reality.

DESCRIPTION:After an over 40 year career of weekly Celtic roots music radio broadcast including NPR’s Thistle and Shamrock\, Asheville Sister Cities is excited that Fiona Ritchie will be traveling from Scotland to join us in-person to celebrate Burns Night and the bard of Scotland’s 266th birthday. \nProceeds raised from sponsorships and our 2025 Burns Night Fundraiser charity auction & raffle will be contributed toward regional hurricane disaster relief. Proceeds from ticket sales will be contributed toward the Thistle and Shamrock CD archive project at UNCA. \nEntertainment includes piper Alex Stewart\, fiddler Andrew Finn Magill\, and dancers from the Carpenter Academy of Irish Dance. \nBurns Night Seminar will be co-hosted by Fiona Ritchie during cash bar reception with complimentary warm Scottish appetizers. \nOptional Whisky Tasting will be hosted by Highland Brewing’s Oscar Wong. \nEvent includes a full traditional Burns Night ceremony\, three course dinner with selection of main course\, and wee drams of single-male Scotch Whisky to toast the haggis.
