DESCRIPTION:Asheville artist\, David Sheldon\, exhibits\, for the first time in Western North Carolina\, the full range of his work at Spiers Gallery\, Brevard College. Sheldon will be exhibiting with sculptor Mark Connelley.  “Orion”\, one of Sheldon’s  ‘Skyworks’ series of sculptures (which was awarded first place last year at the Rosen Sculpture Exhibition\, Appalachian State University.) will be on display\, plus many other sculptural works. Along with his sculptural works\, Sheldon will be exhibiting his large\, figurative abstract paintings\, expressive landscapes\, and works from his ‘Paintings of Paintings’ series. This will also be the first time he will be displaying an installation of “Field Guide to the Birds of North America”\, an on-going painting project with over 200 paintings.

DESCRIPTION:Hendersonville Theatre welcomes Leon Timbo & the Family Band as August’s intimate HT’s Hometown Sound Music Series concert! For country-soul singer-songwriter Leon Timbo\, music is used as a form of growth and healing. Timbo’s country sound incorporates equal measures of vintage soul\, gospel\, folk\, R&B\, and even modern blues making for a unique experience that some have described as “transparent soul.” \nSome write music as a creative release. Others feel compelled to perform. For country-soul singer-songwriter Leon Timbo\, music is used as a form of growth and healing. The son of parents who are both church pastors\, Timbo was raised in Jacksonville\, Florida. He began pursuing music seriously at 16 and by age twenty\, he began playing the guitar and performing in clubs\, inspired by artists Bill Withers\, James Taylor\, and Tim Miner. He was discover by R&B superstar Tyrese Gibson\, who asked the budding musician to open for him at the Dallas House of Blues. Tyrese introduced Timbo to GRAMMY-winning vocalist and producer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds\, who signed Timbo to a record deal and took him on the road\, cementing Timbo’s rapidly expanding career as one of the major young artists reclaiming American roots music’s association with the Black experience in the 21st century. \nAfter years of spreading his Gospel roots\, Timbo set his eyes on Country and Americana territory with his 2021 release\, Lovers and Fools. The album explored themes of love\, loss\, and letting go. Timbo released the follow-up\, Lovers and Fools Vol 2\, in June 2022. He also released a Christmas album\, Carols of Love and Healing\, in 2022. \nTimbo is currently on the road supporting his new music and has just finished touring with two-time Grammy Award®–winning bassist\, Marcus Miller\, during his residency with Blue Note New York. Many EBT shoppers explained that the program eases concerns over having enough food each month. Farmers market managers and vendors also noted the benefits of the program. Many note that this leads to ongoing relationships with shoppers and allows them to grow their business with loyal customers.We are honored to have the opportunity to celebrate and support this great program with a fun filled day of music\, activities\, and nature. Doors open at 5:15 p.m.\, initiating the evening with an opening act at 5:30 p.m.\, followed by the headlining performance from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.   \n2025 Rhythm & Brews Concert Series Lineup:  \nAugust 21: Maggie Baugh [[Country]] with Blake Ellege & Saddletramp [[Country/Southern Rock]]  \nSeptember 18: Caitlin Krisko & The Broadcast [[Soul Rock]] with Hustle Souls [[Soul/Funk/Americana]]  \nOctober 16: BonaFide Soul [[Jazz/Funk/Soul] with Congdon Griffin Band [[Folk/Americana/Rock]]  \nThe Beer & Wine Garden\, a focal point for adults\, features offerings from local establishments such as Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.\, Bold Rock Hard Cider\, Guidon Brewing Co.\, Oklawaha Brewing Co.\, Dry Falls Brewery\, Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards\, and Flat Rock Cider Company. Notably\, all net proceeds from adult beverage sales contribute to the Friends of Downtown Hendersonville\, a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to supporting the Downtown Program.  \nFor families\, the Hendersonville Honeycrisps & the Hendersonville Toy Company Kid Zone provide a range of kid-friendly activities\, including hula-hooping and interactive exhibits.   \nAttendees are encouraged to bring camp chairs and picnic blankets to create a relaxed atmosphere. However\, coolers and pets are best left at home to ensure the comfort and safety of all participants. Market St. Downtown Asheville* \nTired Souls opens in Montgomery\, Alabama on December 1\, 1955 – the day Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a city bus to a white man. Her determination was the catalyst that inspired Montgomery’s black citizens to abandon all travel on city buses until they were no longer forced to sit in the back or stand when a white person boarded. But there were others who came before Mrs. Parks and laid the groundwork for this pivotal moment. Tired Souls introduces audiences to Jo Ann Robinson\, Claudette Colvin\, and others so instrumental in lighting a fire under the Civil Rights movement and changing the course of U.S. history forever. \nJoin us for a Q&A with playwright and performer Mike Wiley following each performance.
