SUMMARY:Zoe & Cloyd | The Foreign Landers with special guest Kevin Kehrberg
DESCRIPTION:Zoe & Cloyd—the creative partnership of fiddler/vocalist Natalya Zoe Weinstein and multi-instrumentalist/vocalist John Cloyd Miller—prove that opposites truly do attract. Hailing from two distinct musical worlds\, they merge their unique backgrounds into a powerful collaboration that has garnered both critical acclaim and widespread appeal. \nNatalya\, a classically trained musician from Massachusetts with deep roots in klezmer and jazz\, joins forces with John\, a 12th-generation North Carolinian and grandson of pioneering bluegrass fiddler Jim Shumate. Together\, they create music that honors their respective traditions while forging a distinctive sound of their own. This award-winning duo’s work has been praised by Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine as “a musical collaboration that demands to be heard.” \nAccolades follow Zoe & Cloyd wherever they go. John is a grand prize winner of both the prestigious Chris Austin Songwriting Contest and the Hazel Dickens Songwriting Contest\, while Natalya has earned numerous fiddle contest wins across the country. Based in Asheville\, NC\, they both teach in the traditional music program at Warren Wilson College\, sharing their knowledge and passion with the next generation of musicians. \nZoe & Cloyd have performed nationwide and internationally\, captivating audiences at prestigious venues and festivals like MerleFest\, Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival\, Westport Folk & Bluegrass Fest in Ireland\, Earl Scruggs Music Fest\, FreshGrass Festival\, and the NC Folk Festival. Since 2022\, they have also served as the artistic directors for A Swannanoa Solstice at the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts in Asheville. \nCo-Headlining The Foreign Landers and Kevin Kehrberg on upright bass \n“One listen to the lilting vocals\, truthful narrative\, and welcoming musicality and you will understand\,” writes The Aquarian. “Beautiful would almost be an understatement.” That sense of invitation sits at the heart of The Foreign Landers’ music. Their songs pay close attention to ordinary moments\, shaped by the belief that grace often shows up in these places. Rooted in bluegrass and Celtic tradition\, the band blends acoustic drive with reflective songwriting and close harmony singing shaped by lives lived across borders. \nRooted in bluegrass and Celtic tradition\, the band creates their own sound with reflective songwriting and enchanting singing shaped by lives lived across borders. Led by vocalist and banjoist Tabitha Agnew Benedict of Northern Ireland and mandolinist David Benedict of South Carolina\, The Foreign Landershave built a reputation for music that feels deeply personal. Their work grows out of shared experience\, shaped by distance\, home\, and the steady work of learning how to live faithfully in changing seasons. \nKevin Kehrberg is a Warren Wilson professor and chair of the music department won the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Instrumental Recording of the Year award for his rendition of “Ground Speed\,” originally written by Earl Scruggs. \nFriday\, June 26th – 7:30 – We want everyone to access the healing power of music! Led by Asheville-based internationally recognized violinist and educator Christian Howes\, the program runs June 22–July 3 and welcomes 40 violin\, viola\, cello\, and string players for an immersive experience of clinics\, rehearsals\, masterclasses\, and creative workshops. \nThe Creative Strings Showcase features more than 20 talented workshop musicians performing solos and ensemble works for violin\, viola\, and cello. In 2017 Howes brought a smaller version of the event home to the Asheville area\, where he’s lived since 2015. The smaller version of the event invites up to 20 participants. Said Howes\, “I look forward to building the festival and workshop components of this event over the next few years in ways that will serve the local community”. \nThursday\, June 25th – We want everyone to access the healing power of music! Perhaps you can only afford a few dollars or maybe you have resources to cover the cost for others. Pay What You Can! You may enter your desired donation amount below.

SUMMARY:PERFORMANCE: Ida Dierker and Brandon Gouin + LOCALLC
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of experimental collaboration at Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center with Ida Dierker\, Brandon Gouin\, and LOCALLC (Landon George and Adam McDaniel).\nLOCALLC is a revolving door of local live collaborators. This iteration of the collective features multi-instrumentalists Landon George and Adam McDaniel.\nLandon George (b.1995) is a multi-instrumentalist and serial collaborator based in western North Carolina. His work draws from a variety of influences\, ranging from free improvised chaos to minimalist country ballad singing.\nAdam McDaniel is a music producer and multi-instrumentalist living in Asheville\, North Carolina. Adam’s role as a producer in pop\, rock\, and jazz is characterized by a propensity for experimentation and the inclusion of musique concrète techniques. As founder and co-owner of Drop of Sun Studios\, Adam McDaniel is dedicated to the arts community of Asheville and beyond\, fostering a space and time for artists to seek and discover spiritual and emotional truth in music.\nIda Dierker and Brandon Gouin are a piano/percussion duo founded on free improvisation and are committed to performing works of contemporary music. The pair met in an improvisation class at the University of Maryland\, Baltimore County and since then have performed as an improvised duo in Baltimore’s free scene. Dierker/Gouin have performed many well known works by composers such as Globokar\, Feldman\, Meredith Monk and Kagel as a part of UMBC’s New Music and Percussion Ensembles. Ida and Brandon are members of the Hi-Tom Ensemble\, a group focused on performing works by underrepresented composers and adapting New Music staples to smaller and more accessible instrumentations. In 2024\, Ida and Brandon attended the contemporary music festival\, Nief Norf in Knoxville\, Tennessee.\nGrowing up in Baltimore City\, Ida Dierker studied classical piano. She attended the Baltimore School for the Arts and later the University of Maryland Baltimore County\, where she studied music performance with Dr. Daniel Pesca and Dr. Teodora Adzharova. During her time at UMBC\, she developed a deep appreciation for New Music and improvisation. She has worked directly with composers and performers such as Lois V. Vierk\, George E. Lewis\, Niloufar Nourbakhsh\, Chelsea Loew\, and Vicky Chow. In 2025\, Ida completed both her senior recital titled “Taking Back the Piano”\, as well as completing an undergraduate research award. These two projects focus on works solely by women and non-binary composers. Since graduating\, Ida has played High Zero\, a longstanding Baltimore improvised music festival and performs in the city’s experimental scene as a soloist and member of Hi-Tom Ensemble. She also writes and performs her original songs. Ida’s original song “Figures” appears on More Noise Radio’s compilation album\, “Sounds of Baltimore”. Ida teaches private piano lessons full time and aims to bring her love for exploring and experimenting to her students.\nBrandon Gouin is an improvisor and performer of contemporary music from Laurel\, Maryland. His current projects involve bringing contemporary music to Baltimore City and DC schools and commissioning composers to write accessible works of music for performers of different physical ability. He holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland\, Baltimore County where he studied with Tom Goldstein. He also completed the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Contemporary American Music program from UMBC\, studying under Dustin Donahue. In both 2023 and 2024\, Brandon attended the Nief Norf festival of New Music in Knoxville\, Tennessee. He has had opportunities to work with composers such as Annea Lockwood\, Robert Morris\, Niloufar Nourbakhsh\, and Chelsea Leow. Brandon teaches private drumset lessons and performs in the Hi-Tom Ensemble.

SUMMARY:Call for Artists - Where the Land Remembers: Farming in Old Fort
DESCRIPTION:This show centers on the idea that land isn’t just used—it holds memory. Create a piece that reflects our relationship to the land — whether inherited\, worked\, remembered\, or imagined. Since getting his start playing piano in church at 11 years old\, the Georgia-bred artist has followed his lifelong passion down an extraordinary path that spans from sharing the stage with gospel legend Kirk Franklin to performing at historic venues like Madison Square Garden as a background vocalist for globally adored rock band The Heavy. Over the past few years\, Brother Wallace has teamed up with The Heavy guitarist Dan Taylor in dreaming up a body of work built on his electrifying brand of soul music\, all while continuing his longtime job as a K-12 music teacher. Newly signed to ATO Records\, Wallace is now set to release a one-of-a-kind album revealing the transcendent power and life-affirming impact of his timeless yet daring artistry.

DESCRIPTION:SEATED SHOW\nLIMITED NUMBER OF PREMIUM SEATING TICKETS AVAILABLE \nMATT HECKLER\nMatt Heckler is the fiddle player you wish still existed. Hailing from the Catskill Mtns\, a physiographic subrange to the Appalachian chain\, Heckler has been embraced by mountain music and culture from early on. After having two album simultaneously on the Billboard Bluegrass charts (Blood\, Water\, Coal at #3 & Magnolia Sessions at #9) Heckler has started a band of his own to tour and record with.
