DESCRIPTION:Are you in need of some good luck? Come help us treat hemlocks to protect against hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA) at Little Bradley Falls in Green River Game Land! We’ll be hosting a Volunteer Hemlock Treatment Workday for good luck on Monday\, March 17th\, from 10am – 4pm.  \nHemlock trees are an essential and irreplaceable part of western North Carolina’s forests\, but for over 20 years\, they’ve been under threat from the hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA)—an invasive insect that can kill trees in as little as four years. \nPlease note\, volunteers will be working with insecticide and moving through the forest off trail in potentially challenging terrain. Every volunteer will be paired with an experienced\, licensed professional who will provide instruction and guidance.  \nIn case of inclement weather\, the backup date will be Thursday\, April 17th.  \nReach out to Ayla at volunteer@savehemlocksnc.org or (828) 252-4783 with any questions. The majority of courses will take place on Warren Wilson’s campus\, and others will be Worldwide Courses that depart from Asheville but travel to various corners of the globe. \nCameraless Eco-Photography Weekend\nJoin us for a weekend of playful sustainability in the darkroom! We’ll work with ecologically-friendly and sustainably sourced materials to make cameraless photographic prints\, both in the darkroom and under the bright blue skies of our beautiful Warren Wilson campus. \nWeekend Course\nLevel: All\nCost: $260 (+ $25 materials fee) \nStorytelling Through Cloth Weekend\nExperience how fiber arts can have a powerful impact on storytelling\, building community\, and create a space for healing. DESCRIPTION:Bid from anywhere! Last chance to collect original artworks salvaged from Tyger Tyger Gallery\, which was destroyed in Hurricane Helene. All of the artists who generously donated these pieces were paid for their damaged artworks through the gallery’s art insurance.  \nWe will be donating 20% of proceeds from this online auction to The Center for Craft\, who showed up with several volunteers in the aftermath of the flood to help us move artwork\, materials and supplies out of the gallery and even offered to store it for us until we could come get it. The Center for Craft has given tens of thousands of dollars to craft artists affected by Hurricane Helene\, and we value the array of offerings they bring to the community with  programming\, residencies\, grants\, and work spaces.

DESCRIPTION:“It is only for the sake of those without hope that hope is given to us.” –Walter Benjamin \nWe will engage writer\, historian\, and activist\, Rebecca Solnit and her friend Saket Soni in a discussion about recovery\, rethinking\, and rebuilding after the Hurricane Helene disaster in Western North Carolina.  We will examine this in the current context of major national and international disruption\, and the ongoing need for change in systems and how we respond to disasters.  We are looking forward to new insights and ideas that can help us effectively build a better\, more resilient and just region in the face of so much turbulence.   \nRebecca Solnit is the author of more than twenty books including Orwell’s Roses; Recollections of My Nonexistence; Hope in the Dark; Men Explain Things to Me; A Paradise Built in Hell: The Extraordinary Communities that Arise in Disaster; and A Field Guide to Getting Lost. Rebecca writes regularly for the Guardian\, serves on the board of the climate group Oil Change International\, and launched the climate project Not Too Late (nottoolateclimate.com). \nSaket Soni is a labor organizer and human rights strategist working at the intersection of racial justice\, migrant rights\, and climate change. He is founder and director of Resilience Force\, the voice of the rising workforce rebuilding America after climate disasters. Accredited 5Rhythms teacher Karen Chapman has been hosting dances in Asheville and around the country for 9 years.  Through the dance\, Karen acts as a guide for the dancer on their journey through the rhythms. Karen is interested in how energy moves on the dance floor through the Breath and Body! \nDance movement timeline:\nDoors open at 5 PM for warm up and close at 5:45 for the opening circle. The wave is complete at 6:45PM.
