This lovable loose cannon made her network television debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert\, was featured on the Late Late Show with James Corden\, and has been seen on CBS’s After Midnight\, as well as Comedy Central’s ‘Featuring’ series.’ \nLuke Null: \nLuke Null began performing comedy the moment he picked up a guitar in Chicago. During his stay in the Windy city he developed his signature musical comedy style\, blending witty humor with catchy earworms. DESCRIPTION:“It is only for the sake of those without hope that hope is given to us.” –Walter Benjamin \nWe will engage writer\, historian\, and activist\, Rebecca Solnit and her friend Saket Soni in a discussion about recovery\, rethinking\, and rebuilding after the Hurricane Helene disaster in Western North Carolina.  We will examine this in the current context of major national and international disruption\, and the ongoing need for change in systems and how we respond to disasters.  We are looking forward to new insights and ideas that can help us effectively build a better\, more resilient and just region in the face of so much turbulence.   \nRebecca Solnit is the author of more than twenty books including Orwell’s Roses; Recollections of My Nonexistence; Hope in the Dark; Men Explain Things to Me; A Paradise Built in Hell: The Extraordinary Communities that Arise in Disaster; and A Field Guide to Getting Lost. Rebecca writes regularly for the Guardian\, serves on the board of the climate group Oil Change International\, and launched the climate project Not Too Late (nottoolateclimate.com). \nSaket Soni is a labor organizer and human rights strategist working at the intersection of racial justice\, migrant rights\, and climate change. He is founder and director of Resilience Force\, the voice of the rising workforce rebuilding America after climate disasters. He has toured internationally and headlined several Irish festivals.  \nAward winning musician and singer\, David McKindley-Ward has made a name for himself as a recording and touring multi-instrumentalist in the folk\, roots and traditional music scenes across the US\, Ireland and the UK. He is a regular performer and instructor at Irish music teaching festivals including O’Flaherty’s Irish Retreat\, Atlanta Irish Fest\, Baltimore Tradfest\, Celtic Fest Mississippi\, the Ashokan Center\, The Philadelphia Céilí Group Traditional Irish music and Dance Weekend\, the Augusta Irish Retreat and the Catskills Irish Arts Week. SUMMARY:Hemlock Hike with the Blue Ridge Conservancy
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Friday\, April 4th at 12:30pm for an educational hemlock hike with the Hemlock Restoration Initiative and the Blue Ridge Conservancy at their campus trail in Blowing Rock\, NC. The hike will be a 2.2 mile loop\, and is considered moderate terrain. \nAlong the way\, we will traverse through one of HRI’s Hemlock Conservation Areas (HCA). These hemlocks were treated in winter of 2023. The hike will also take participants past a hemlock health monitoring plot to discuss methods of evaluating treatment success. Overall\, participants can expect to learn about hemlock ecology\, the threat of the invasive hemlock woolly adelgid\, and a variety of different control methods being used on both state and national forests in NC\, as well as on other public and private lands across the range of eastern hemlock. \nA staff member from Blue Ridge Conservancy will also join to discuss their efforts protecting the lands around you. \nWe’ll depart from the Blue Ridge Conservancy Campus trailhead. Refreshments will be provided by Curious Elixirs\, creators of sophisticated alcohol-free craft beverages. \nviewshed (April 4 – August 16\, 2025) illuminates the enduring impact of Black Mountain College as a crucible of artistic experimentation and exchange\, tracing the transmission of ideas across generations and exploring how BMC’s radical pedagogical approaches continue to shape contemporary artistic practice. The exhibition stages a dynamic dialogue between past and present\, featuring contemporary artists Richard Garet\, Jennie MaryTai Liu\, Deanna Sirlin\, and Susie Taylor alongside seminal BMC figures such as Dorothea Rockburne\, Sewell (Si) Sillman\, and Jacob Lawrence. By engaging with transparency\, structure\, color\, collaboration\, and expanded forms\, viewshed brings into focus the porous boundaries between disciplines\, unfolding as a sensorial and conceptual investigation into the shifting terrain of artistic influence. The exhibition highlights works that span painting\, textile\, sound\, and performance\, inviting viewers to consider the ways in which artistic methodologies evolve and reverberate across time.
