SUMMARY:Asheville Symphony Amadeus Festival - TF3’s Jukebox with Time for Three
DESCRIPTION:Defying convention and boundaries\, Time For Three (TF3) stands at the busy intersection of classical music\, Americana\, and singer-songwriter. To experience TF3 live is to hear the various eras\, styles\, and traditions of Western music fold in on themselves and emerge anew. This Jukebox program\, a featured event in this season’s biennial Asheville Amadeus Festival\, includes all three members of TF3 and showcases an eclectic mix of original songs\, popular covers\, and some of the most iconic music ever written. “In person\, the members of Time for Three come off as just three dudes in a band\,” said NPR. “But with their staggering technique and freewheeling genre-crossing\, it’s hard not to be swept up in the force of their contagious energy.”

SUMMARY:Terms of Endearment
DESCRIPTION:Adapted for the stage by Dan Gordon\nProduced by special arrangement with Playscripts\, Inc. (www.playscripts.com) \nMay 1-11\, 2025 \nThursday\, 5/1 at 7:30 (pay what you can available on 4/17)\nFridays at 7:30\nSaturdays at 3 pm\nSundays at 3 pm \nDirector: Jonathan Forrester \nApproximate Run Time: 2 hours\nRating: PG-13 due to adult language and situations. Depictions of drinking\, smoking\, drug use\, illness and death. \nChallenges in life and love test the resilience of a mother-daughter relationship in Dan Gordon’s adaptation of Terms of Endearment\, based on the book by Pulitzer Prize-winner Larry McMurtry and James L. Brooks’s screenplay of the Oscar-winning film. Though Emma is often exasperated by her highly-opinionated mother\, Aurora\, they talk daily about their problems\, from Aurora finding unexpected love even as she becomes a reluctant grandmother to Emma’s struggle in her troubled marriage. But when they need one another most\, will they be able to find courage in each other? This funny and touching story captures the delicate\, sometimes fractured bonds between mothers and daughters\, husbands and wives\, and lovers\, both old and new. \nThe cast of Terms of Endearment: \nTate Albert – Garrett Breedlove \nMark Hodgdon* – Rudyard/Dr. Maise \nVictoria Lamberth – Aurora Greenway \nLauren Otis – Emma Greenway \nJered Shults – Flap Horton \nMary Weisberger – Patsy/Doris/Nurse \n*Making their Hendersonville Theatre debut

SUMMARY:Blue Ridge Orchestra's 25th Anniversary Season Finale: Friday\, May 2nd
DESCRIPTION:ASHEVILLE\, NC | The Blue Ridge Orchestra celebrates 25 years of symphonic excellence with our thrilling season finale under the leadership of Music Director Dr. Emily Mariko Eng. \nOur 25th Anniversary Season Finale\, part of the Asheville Symphony Orchestra’s bi-annual festival: “The Art of Storytelling\,” spans genres of jazz and classical in a highly collaborative program. Two exciting works by Leonard Bernstein – Prelude\, Fugue\, and Riffs and Symphonic Dances from West Side Story – will bookend a beautiful\, lyrical piece for jazz quartet and orchestra\, Mom by Asheville-based composer Richard Shulman. The program concludes with the glorious Beethoven Symphony No. 6\, “Pastoral.” \nBlue Ridge Orchestra’s Music Director Dr. Emily Mariko Eng says of the program: “When I planned this music a year ago\, I couldn’t have imagined the poeticism in concluding our season with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6\, the Pastoral. It is one of his few programmatic works\, and it tells a story of the beauty of nature\, but also the destruction it can cause and the feelings following such devastation. We will end our season on a hopeful\, joyous note following the storm\, represented musically but also embodied emotionally.” \nDeb Kenney\, Board President expresses enthusiasm for the BRO’s success in its silver anniversary– The Blue Ridge Orchestra is celebrating its 25th Anniversary Season Finale with an exciting program created by Music Director\, Dr. Emily Mariko Eng! The versatility of our musicians will be on display with works ranging from the full orchestra to jazz ensemble. Based in Asheville\, NC\, we are proud to be Western North Carolina’s volunteer community orchestra\, and thrilled that some of our musicians for this concert performed in the very first BRO concert\, 25 years ago……having performed continuously throughout those 25 years! The Blue Ridge Orchestra is truly of the community\, for the community\, and succeeds to this day only by this community’s support. SUMMARY:Airing of the Quilts
DESCRIPTION:The airing of quilts is a traditional rite of spring in the mountains.  After a long winter with families snuggled under layers of warm handmade quilts\, the warmer weather of springtime gave women a chance to freshen up and air-out these essentials covers. We want to invite you to be part in this special day! To honor this tradition\, the Appalachian Women’s Museum began an annual event in 2017 where as many as 65 quilts hung on the wrap around porch\, from clotheslines in the yard\, and on quilt racks and other surfaces throughout the first floor of the museum. This year we are excited to once again share quilts of local makers going back generations. Throughout the day John Tichich will play his fiddle and have a working treadle sewing machine for participants to use. Come visit us at our traditional Airing of the Quilts at the Appalachian Women’s Museum.\nCheck out AWM Facebook and Instagram regularly for updates of the event.\nAbout Registering Your Quilt             \nDeadline to Register – April 25\, 2025\nTypes of Quilts: You may register family heirloom quilts\, quilts you’ve made or made by someone else\, can be hand stitched or machine stitched\, can be old\, can be new. This presentation explores the ancient practice of icon writing as a form of sacred meditation and a bridge between the visible and invisible realms. \nThe exhibition takes place on Saturday\, May 3 from 1-5 pm at the Gurdjieff Foundation of Western North Carolina\, 4 Richmond Ave\, Asheville\, NC 28806\, with Melissa’s talk between 3-4pm. The exhibition will continue on Sunday\, May 4 from 12-4 PM. \nIcons have served as spiritual tools for centuries\, inviting viewers into contemplative states beyond ordinary consciousness. As Melissa explains\, “Icons can be instruments for the transmission of faith. Some people consider iconography to be the 5th gospel\, a translation of scripture rather than ‘art\,’ although the translation is in imagery rather than the written word.” \nThrough this presentation\, participants will: \nWitness the techniques and materials of traditional icon writing\nExplore how icons function as “windows into heaven”\nLearn how the practice of icon writing involves “praying with each brushstroke\,” creating a unique form of meditation\nExperience a collection of Melissa’s completed icons \nAfter Melissa’s talk\, there will be a showing of a short video of a talk by Icon scholar Richard Temple\, from the recent Harvard Divinity School conference on Gurdjieff. In ‘Icons are Cosmic Diagrams\,’ Temple offers a meditation on how icons illustrate “the energetic encounter of the higher and lower forces” in the human being\, with their balanced compositions reflecting the inner harmony of their creators in ways that illustrate the principles of both Christian mysticism and the Gurdjieff Work. \nGallery Exhibition and Purchase Opportunity:\nVisitors will have the opportunity to view a gallery display of Melissa’s original icons; these sacred works will be available for purchase. Additionally\, greeting cards featuring Melissa’s icons will be available for purchase in beautifully presented boxed sets\, making them perfect gifts for those interested in spiritual imagery. \nThe talk offers a rare opportunity to understand how ancient spiritual practices can speak to contemporary seekers. As we explore icons as windows between worlds\, we may discover new ways of seeing—both outwardly and within ourselves. \nNo prior knowledge of liturgical Christian traditions or Gurdjieff’s ideas is required.
