SUMMARY:Tea in the Tempest Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Pink Dog Creative Gallery presents Tea in the Tempest\, an evocative collaborative exhibition by mixed media artist Heather Divoky and textile artist Emelie Weber Wade. Originally envisioned as Tea Time for Two\, a show celebrating creative partnership\, the concept evolved in response to Hurricane Helene’s impact. \nThrough intricate hand-drawn works\, sculptural crowns\, woven inlay wall pieces\, and non-traditional quilts\, Divoky and Wade explore themes of loss\, transformation\, and renewal. The exhibition features three large-scale collaborative installations\, inviting visitors to reflect on resilience in the face of upheaval. \nDiscover how art can be a vessel for healing at this thought-provoking exhibition in Asheville’s River Arts District. \nLearn more at www.lunadendron.com \nExhibition Dates: May 9 – June 8\, 2025 \nOpening Reception: May 9\, 5:00 – 8:00 PM \nPink Dog Creative\, 348 Depot St\, Asheville\, NC \nAdmission: Free & open to the public

SUMMARY:An Evening With Chris Thile and Asheville Symphony
DESCRIPTION:An Evening with Chris Thile features a true array of genres. You’ll hear Thile’s new work ATTENTION! A narrative song cycle for extroverted mandolinist and orchestra\, the third movement of Barber’s masterful Violin Concerto – which he will play on mandolin – and more. \nMacArthur Fellow and Grammy Award-winning mandolinist\, singer\, songwriter Chris Thile\, who the Guardian calls “that rare being: an all-round musician who can settle into any style\, from bluegrass to classical\,” and NPR calls a “genre-defying musical genius\,” is a founding member of the critically acclaimed bands Punch Brothers and Nickel Creek. For four years\, Thile hosted public radio favorite Live from Here with Chris Thile (formerly known as A Prairie Home Companion). With his broad outlook\, Thile creates a distinctly American canon and a new musical aesthetic for performers and audiences alike\, giving the listener “one joyous arc\, with the linear melody and vertical harmony blurring into a single web of gossamer beauty” (New York Times).

SUMMARY:Terms of Endearment
DESCRIPTION:Adapted for the stage by Dan Gordon\nProduced by special arrangement with Playscripts\, Inc. (www.playscripts.com) \nMay 1-11\, 2025 \nThursday\, 5/1 at 7:30 (pay what you can available on 4/17)\nFridays at 7:30\nSaturdays at 3 pm\nSundays at 3 pm \nDirector: Jonathan Forrester \nApproximate Run Time: 2 hours\nRating: PG-13 due to adult language and situations. Depictions of drinking\, smoking\, drug use\, illness and death. \nChallenges in life and love test the resilience of a mother-daughter relationship in Dan Gordon’s adaptation of Terms of Endearment\, based on the book by Pulitzer Prize-winner Larry McMurtry and James L. Brooks’s screenplay of the Oscar-winning film. Though Emma is often exasperated by her highly-opinionated mother\, Aurora\, they talk daily about their problems\, from Aurora finding unexpected love even as she becomes a reluctant grandmother to Emma’s struggle in her troubled marriage. But when they need one another most\, will they be able to find courage in each other? This funny and touching story captures the delicate\, sometimes fractured bonds between mothers and daughters\, husbands and wives\, and lovers\, both old and new. \nThe cast of Terms of Endearment: \nTate Albert – Garrett Breedlove \nMark Hodgdon* – Rudyard/Dr. Maise \nVictoria Lamberth – Aurora Greenway \nLauren Otis – Emma Greenway \nJered Shults – Flap Horton \nMary Weisberger – Patsy/Doris/Nurse \n*Making their Hendersonville Theatre debut

SUMMARY:FILM SCREENING: home
DESCRIPTION:HOME\, a collaboration of Sue Schroeder (dancemaker) and Adam Larsen (filmmaker)\, connects the foundations of human existence — home\, body and nature — as inextricably linked. Experienced through the integration of nature\, architecture\, story\, the moving body and film\, our story stretches between finding and losing oneself\, reflections on the places we call home\, with an emphasis on nature within human nature. \nFilmed in France and Poland\, Larsen and Schroeder\, alongside an international community of artists create connection\, impact\, and meaning through a visually rich and poetic experience of beauty and loss\, tenderness and urgency\, action and recognition.

SUMMARY:Ursula Gullow: Nightbloom
DESCRIPTION:Gallery Hours are Wed – Sat 11am-5pm \nTracey Morgan Gallery is pleased to present “Nightbloom\,” our first solo exhibition of painter and mixed media artist Ursula Gullow. Join us for an Artist Reception on Friday\, May 16 from 6-8PM. \nMoving between classical painting techniques and craft materials\, Gullow’s artwork embraces the decorative arts while reframing the female presence in Western art and rescuing historical imagery from its patriarchal forebears. Her richly painted tableaus and lustrous ceramic objects recontextualize sentimental narratives\, innuendos\, and adornments prevalent in European art history. Flowers\, foliage\, ribbons\, petticoats\, silk stockings\, and ornamental filigree fill her oil paintings of landscapes and interior spaces.

SUMMARY:Mountain Institute for Lifelong Learning at Warren Wilson College
DESCRIPTION:Mountain Institute for Lifelong Learning at Warren Wilson College is a vessel for community building\, exploration\, adventure\, place-based learning\, and the ignition of new passion for lifelong learners. These are non-credit bearing experiences\, ranging in length from one to three weeks\, that bring learners to our campus in Asheville\, NC or send them on global explorations with Warren Wilson faculty. These courses highlight the unique magic of Warren Wilson College\, which has been a hub of experiential learning since its founding as the Asheville Farm School in 1894. \nAdults of all ages are encouraged to apply (18+). The majority of courses will take place on Warren Wilson’s campus\, and others will be Worldwide Courses that depart from Asheville but travel to various corners of the globe. \nOne-Legged Stool Weekend\nWe will explore the definition of a chair and balance. The course will cover shaping wood and mortise and tenon joinery by using a drill press\, routers\, tapering jig\, tentoning jig on a table saw and a square chisel mortiser. By the end of the class you will have a stool that you will enjoy for a very long time.\nWeekend Course\nLevel: Beginner +\nCost: $260 (+$50 materials fee) \nGoing Hammer & Tongs! Weekend\nIn this fast paced workshop\, we will modify one of Earth’s most elemental resources into objects of utility essential to the blacksmith’s craft: the cross peen hammer and bolt jaw tongs. But what were the ideas and ideals that gave rise to Black Mountain College’s unique spirit of collaboration\, experimentation\, and community? In this course\, we will explore the history and the philosophy behind BMC’s distinctively experiential and experimental model of liberal arts education.\nWeekend Course\nLevel: Beginner +\nCost: $260 (+ $25 materials fee) \nBeginner Mushroom Growing Weekend\nIn this course\, we’ll learn how to start mushroom cultures using wild tissue samples\, spore prints\, and liquid culture\, learn about grain and sawdust spawn and innoculating shiitake spawn onto oak logs.\nWeekend Course\nLevel: Beginner-Advanced Beginner\nCost: $260 (+ $15 materials fee) \nPlant Cordage and Tulip Poplar Bark Bucket Weekend\nDesign and craft your own basket from tulip poplar bark and plant cordage. But\, we often postpone because we don’t know where to start.
