SUMMARY:Sacred Activism - Trusting the Dark–Finding Faith When the Path is Unclear
DESCRIPTION:Learn to find faith when the path is unclear and navigate the unknown as a fertile ground for new beginnings \nHow can our spiritual work serve the transformation of the world we live in? How do we navigate grief\, anger\, and hope in times of division? \nJoin Beth Hedquist and Cibele Salviatto for a new ongoing series exploring the intersection between spirituality and courageous action grounded in love. Together\, we will inquire into how our inner patterns—both conscious and unconscious—mirror and sustain the collective systems we seek to change. \nWhat We Will Explore \nWe will weave together the wisdom of the Pathwork Lectures\, sacred texts\, body work\, and personal sharing to cultivate: \n• Systemic Awareness: Seeing how we personally and collectively “collude with the system.” \n• Emotional Resilience: Learning to stay engaged without burning out. \n• Love-Based Action: Tools to act from clarity rather than reactivity or despair. \n• Community: A supportive space of like-minded souls. \nThis Month: Trusting the Dark \nIn this session\, we embrace the mystery of the unknown. We will explore how to find faith when the path ahead is unclear\, and the old maps no longer serve us. \nTogether\, we will practice navigating the darkness not as a void\, but as the fertile soil of creation—learning to trust the cycles of rest and gestation that are essential to true transformation.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a one-night double feature of thoughtful\, mind-bending\, and whimsical marionettes and shadow puppetry: PHANTASMAGORIA\, by one-man marionette-building extraordinaire Puppet Pants\, and UNRAVELING\, by Henson Grant-awarded duo Shadow Girls Cult. \n‍ \nClowns\, monsters\, and mysteries amuse and interact with the audience in PHANTASMAGORIA. This marionette variety show features whimsical acts ranging from endearing to odd\, set to an original score. A series of shadow vignettes takes the audience on a journey through yearning\, curiosity\, and wonder\, moving through fractured identity and grief\, and ending with a dream sequence. Shadow Girls Cult uses a mind-bending blend of light techniques\, old-school overhead projectors\, shadow masks\, and hundreds of intricate and layered shadow puppets to create an animated film-like experience. UNRAVELING touches on the echo of a question: is the world (and by extension\, are we) destined to always\, always come apart at the seams? \n‍ \nRecommended for adults and teens ages 16+\nShadow puppetry and marionettes\nLength: 2 hours with an intermission\nLanguage: English\nFrom Seattle and Atlanta! \n‍ \nUNRAVELING\nCreated and Performed by Shadow Girls Cult\nMusic by Kin of The Moon\, Bad Angels\, Orion\nSound design by Zane Exactly\n“Birdwatching” — based on poem by Franny Choi\n“They’re Only Dreams” — text by Amy Escobar & voiceover by Cass Bray\nPuppets designed and built by Shadow Girls Cult\nOther sound design by Shadow Girls Cult \nPHANTASMAGORIA\nCreated and Performed by Puppet Pants\nMusic by Puppet Pants \nCreation of this production was supported in part by The Henson Foundation. \n‍\nAbout the Artists \nFounded in Atlanta in 2024\, Puppet Pants is committed to providing top quality marionette entertainment for audiences of all ages\, and has performed at the New Orleans Giant Puppet Festival\, Puppeteers of America 2024 South East Festival\, DragonCON\, Asheville and Atlanta Fringe\, as well as music festivals\, private events and independent tours of the United States. \nShadow Girls Cult is an award-winning queer shadow puppetry and projections duo based out of Seattle\, WA. SUMMARY:PATIO SHOW: Abe Reid
DESCRIPTION:Abe Reid is a North Carolina musician and one of the modern keepers of the Piedmont roots music tradition. Born in Forsyth County and raised in Statesville\, Reid began playing guitar at a young age\, developing a deep connection to the region’s historic finger-style traditions.\nHis musical education came directly from the source. As a young player\, he spent time with legendary Carolina musicians Guitar Gabriel and Cootie Stark\, learning not only guitar technique but also the storytelling and spirit behind traditional American music. \nIn the 1990s\, Reid immersed himself in the life of a working musician\, busking on the streets of New Orleans before returning to North Carolina’s music scene. He later helped form the roots band The Blue Rags\, known for energetic performances and traditional sounds. \nReid gained international recognition when he won the International Blues Challenge in Memphis—becoming the first solo performer to win the competition. \nToday\, Abe Reid continues to perform\, teach\, and share the music of the American South\, passing on knowledge learned from older musicians and decades on the road.

SUMMARY:Ordinary Elephant | Sundays by the River
DESCRIPTION:Mesmering folk duo Ordinary Elephant play an intimate Sunday afternoon concert by the French Broad River in Olivette. BYOB\, BYOC (chair) – Kids are free! \nFolk duo Ordinary Elephant has spent the better part of the last decade on a never-ending tour thats earned married couple Crystal and Pete Damore widespread critical acclaim and made fans of luminaries like Tom Paxton and Mary Gauthier. In 2017\, the pair took home the International Folk Music Award for Artist of the Year on the strength of their breakout album\, Before I Go\, and two years later\, they returned with the similarly lauded Honest\, which the Associated Press hailed as “one of the best Americana albums of the year.” \nThe band’s new stripped-down\, self-titled collection is the purest distillation of their sound yet\, showcasing the arresting power of the couple’s gorgeous harmonies and intricate fretwork. The songs are timeless\, rooted in rich\, character-driven storytelling\, and the performances are similarly transportive\, fueled by delicately intertwined banjo\, guitar\, and octave mandolin. Though the songs were born out of a period of deep uncertainty\, the record itself is a work of profound self-assurance\, one delivered by a duo whose personal and professional lives embody the limitless possibility of honest\, organic collaboration. Press play on Ordinary Elephant and you’ll hear more than just a husband and wife; you’ll hear the sound of sincerity and commitment\, of patience and gratitude\, of learning to let go of expectation and revel in the simple beauty of the moment.

SUMMARY:{Re}HAPPENING 14
DESCRIPTION:Since 2010\, Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center (BMCM+AC) has hosted the {Re}HAPPENING inspired by John Cage’s 1952 Theatre Piece No. 1\, an unscripted performance at Black Mountain College considered by many to be the first Happening. The annual {Re}HAPPENING brings together dozens of contemporary artists whose work responds to and extends the legacy of Black Mountain College visionaries such as John Cage\, David Tudor\, Merce Cunningham\, Anni Albers\, M.C. Richards\, Ruth Asawa\, Buckminster Fuller\, Josef Albers\, and Robert Rauschenberg. \nThe 2026 {Re}HAPPENING will celebrate the event’s 14th anniversary. This year’s boundary-pushing projects will engage visitors deeply with the living legacy of Black Mountain College. From installations to participatory workshops\, the 2026 program is defined by radical experiments in movement\, sound\, and collective presence. \nThe {Re}HAPPENING is a one-day event at the historic campus of Black Mountain College\, 20 minutes from Asheville. It is part art event\, part fundraiser\, and part community instigator\, providing a platform for contemporary artists to share their responses to the vital legacy of Black Mountain College by activating the buildings and grounds of the BMC campus with installations\, new media\, music\, and performance projects. \nGeneral admission brings in hundreds of visitors annually. In addition to providing a forum for regional artists and an accessible\, immersive\, educational experience for attendees\, every year the event is a community collaboration between local businesses and arts organizations. \nAbout Black Mountain College:\nFounded in 1933\, Black Mountain College was one of the leading experimental liberal arts schools in America until its closure in 1957. After the Bauhaus in Germany closed due to mounting antagonism from the Nazi Party\, Josef and Anni Albers readily accepted an offer to join the Black Mountain College faculty. During their 16-year tenure in North Carolina\, the Alberses helped model the college’s interdisciplinary curriculum on that of the Bauhaus\, attracting an unmatched roster of teachers and students including R. Buckminster Fuller\, Elaine and Willem de Kooning\, John Cage\, Merce Cunningham\, Mary Caroline (M.C.) Richards\, Ruth Asawa\, and Robert Rauschenberg. \nThe Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center (BMCM+AC) was founded in 1993 to preserve the history of Black Mountain College as a forerunner in progressive interdisciplinary education and to celebrate its extraordinary impact on modern and contemporary art\, dance\, theater\, music\, and performance. \nThe Museum is committed to educating the public about the history of Black Mountain College and promoting awareness of its extensive legacy through exhibitions\, publications\, lectures\, films\, seminars\, and oral histories. Through our permanent collection\, special exhibitions\, publications\, and research archive\, we provide access to historical materials related to the College and its influence on the field. \nBMCM+AC provides a forum for multifaceted programming in a dynamic environment in downtown Asheville\, North Carolina. Our goal is to provide a gathering point for people from a variety of backgrounds to interact – integrating art\, ideas\, and discourse. \nGeneral Information:\n{Re}HAPPENING 14 will take place April 25th\, 2026 from 3-10pm\nTICKETS:\n$30 Advance Adult Admission (ends at noon on 4/24)\n$37 Regular Adult Admission\n$15 for Youth 10-17 + Students w/ID\n(Children under 10 free with ticket-holding adult)\nPARKING:\n$15 – Parking Pass\nThe $15 parking pass charge covers one vehicle to park on-site at the grounds. SUMMARY:Asheville Farmstead Schools 10 year Celebration and Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate a decade of outdoor learning and help us plant the seeds for the next 10 years! Your sponsorship supports campus improvements\, outdoor classrooms\, family gear access\, and hands-on learning materials—all while keeping tuition focused on paying our dedicated educators. We will have kid activities\, vendors\, food and beverages\, a silent auction\, Farmstead merchandise and have our 25 acre campus open for exploration and play! \nThanks to generous community members and business leaders like YOU\, Asheville Farmstead School has been able to sustain and grow for the past ten years—through natural disasters\, a pandemic\, and the ongoing work of building out our campus. Because of your support\, children in our community have been able to spend their earliest years immersed in nature\, sparking curiosity\, building resilience\, and learning in ways that will last a lifetime. \nBut here’s the challenge: as a nonprofit\, our revenue comes almost entirely from tuition. We are committed to keeping tuition rates affordable for families while also paying our educators fairly as a progressive employer. At the same time\, we are responsible for managing 25 acres of land and maintaining an outdoor learning campus that fosters exploration and play. This balance makes it difficult to provide the additional support that makes our programs thrive.

SUMMARY:Etienne Charles: “Earth Tones”
DESCRIPTION:“Earth Tones” is presented in partnership with the Pathways to Resilience QEP\, a five-year climate literacy initiative at App State. \nTrinidadian trumpeter and composer Etienne Charles has dedicated his recent works to highlighting the voices of marginalized peoples in the Americas. He broadens his scope with his latest composition\, Earth Tones\, a multimedia jazz performance featuring original compositions that draw attention to people and regions that are\, or soon will be\, severely affected by climate change. The performance invites us into a sensory journey that includes sounds\, stories\, and musical idioms from at-risk coastal communities\, with images and short films of disappearing mangrove swamps\, coral reefs\, oyster beds\, seagrass\, sand dunes\, and mud volcanoes. Featuring musicians from the very communities most at risk\, the performance balances blunt reality\, eternal optimism\, and surrealism\, ultimately offering an exhortation to address climate change’s impact on our future.
