SUMMARY:GALLERY WALK – JANIE PACKER\, CERAMICS & MIXED MEDIA ARTIST
DESCRIPTION:(FREE) Ceramics artist Janie Packer will join the Lucy Clark Gallery for the August Gallery walk. \nJanie often only has the germ of an idea when she starts a new project\, and she lets a wild dance between her and the clay direct the process. As the work progresses\, it may start to look like a weeping woman\, or a cat with a crown on its head. She lets the dance go on until the basic form emerges. If it makes her smile\, then the refining process begins. Pieces may be fired multiple times until the surface treatment is completed. Regardless of the outcome\, her work deals with the idea of human fragility. It is about compassion for people as they journey from suffering on towards enlightenment.

SUMMARY:Exhibition on Screen | John Singer Sargent: Fashion and Swagger
DESCRIPTION:JOHN SINGER SARGENT \nDirected by David Bickerstaff \nJohn Singer Sargent is known as the greatest portrait artist of his era. What made his ‘swagger’ portraits remarkable was his power over his sitters\, what they wore and how they were presented to the audience. Through interviews with curators\, contemporary fashionistas and style influencers\, Exhibition on Screen’s film will examine how Sargent’s unique practice has influenced modern art\, culture and fashion. \nFilmed at the Museum of Fine Arts\, Boston and the Tate Britain\, London\, the exhibition reveals Sargent’s power to express distinctive personalities\, power dynamics and gender identities during this fascinating period of cultural reinvention. Alongside 50 paintings by Sargent sit stunning items of clothing and accessories worn by his subjects\, drawing the audience into the artist’s studio. \nStep into the glittering world of fashion\, scandal and shameless self-promotion that made John Singer Sargent the painter who defined an era. \nExplore the unique creative process of the late 19th century’s favorite portrait artist and the way in which his portraits captured the spirit of a vibrant and rapidly changing age.
