Her honors include fellowships from the Guggenheim\nand Rockefeller Foundations\, an NEA\, the Poetry Center Book Award\, the\nCalifornia Book Award\, long listing for the National Book Award\, and finalist\nselection for the National Book Critics Circle Award. A former Chancellor of\nthe Academy of American Poets\, Hirshfield was elected in 2019 into the\nAmerican Academy of Arts & Sciences. \nIn 2017\, she founded Poets for Science in conjunction with the first March for\nScience in Washington\, D.C. The interactive project (hosted at Kent State’s Wick\nPoetry Center) has been installed across the country at universities\, museums\, and\nresearch centers\, and\, we’re proud to announce\, will be on display at the\nArboretum for this event. \nWelcome reception at 1:00 pm\, ET\, followed by reading and book signing at 2:30 pm. Through it all\, Maia has continued to record her own albums; nine solo releases\, one collaborative project with Art Garfunkel and Buddy Mondlock and her duo project\, Roscoe & Etta. American Songwriter calls her “truly a treasure in terms of her ability to craft compelling songs that bear an affirmative attitude\, one that takes stock in both kindness and compassion and uses them to the best advantage.” Maia is also an adjunct professor at NYU and has been writing for Songwriting With: Soldiers for eight years.
