SUMMARY:Sacred Activism - Beyond the Divide – Finding Unity in a Polarized World
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an inspiring journey of self-discovery and community empowerment through Sacred Activism and this month’s topic: Beyond the Divide – Finding Unity in a Polarized World \nMove beyond polarization. Explore the illusion of separation and how to anchor ourselves in unity consciousness. How can our spiritual work serve the transformation of the world we live in? How do we navigate grief\, anger\, and hope in times of division? \nJoin Beth Hedquist and Cibele Salviatto for a new ongoing series exploring the intersection between spirituality and courageous action grounded in love. Together\, we will inquire into how our inner patterns—both conscious and unconscious—mirror and sustain the collective systems we seek to change. \nThis is an online and donation-based event. In this session\, we will dive into the illusion of separation to discover how we can anchor ourselves in unity consciousness\, even in the face of conflict. \nWould you join us? \nLearn more/Register: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sacred-activism-beyond-the-divide-finding-unity-in-a-polarized-world-tickets-1982047809353?utm-campaign=social&utm-content=attendeeshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=listing&utm-source=cp&aff=ebdsshcopyurl

SUMMARY:Jazz Bassist Hilliard Greene returns with Steinway pianist Lenore Raphael
DESCRIPTION:Separately\, bassist Hilliard Greene and pianist Lenore Raphael have wowed fans and\ncritics on stages all over the world. It’s rare to hear these jazz talents performing\ntogether. Greene returns March 28 to perform alongside Raphael to volley their\nown individual compositions alongside reimagined gems from the classic jazz\nplaybook. \nGreene performs widely in New York City—recitals\, nightclubs\, concert halls (including\nCarnegie Hall)\, recording studios\, radio and television—as well as throughout the\nUnited States\, Canada\, Europe\, Asia\, the West Indies and South America. He served\nas a musical director for nearly 20 years with Jimmy Scott. Greene also composes and\nperforms solo music for contrabass. He developed his program of spirituals to spotlight\nthe significance\, art and beauty of 19th-century American heritage songs associated\nwith the Underground Railroad\, the network of secret routes and safe houses used by\nenslaved people of African descent. \nRaphael\, a native of the Bronx\, was an early prodigy pianist\, performing at Carnegie\nHall as a 7-year-old. As a teen\, she pivoted to jazz and\, in the decades since\, has built\na deep reputation through performances at Jazz At Lincoln Center\, The Blue Note\,\nJazz Showcase in Chicago and jazz festivals in Tel Aviv\, London\, Ottawa and South\nAfrica\, among countless gigs. At Mars Landing\, expect to hear her original composition\n“Blues for OP (Oscar Peterson)\,” which she performed at a tribute concert in Toronto\nfor Peterson.

SUMMARY:Green River\, Green Love & Good Luck: Hemlock Treatment Volunteer Workday
DESCRIPTION:Are you in need of a bit of (belated) luck on this St. Patrick’s Day? Join Hemlock Restoration Initiative in the Green River Game Land near Saluda\, NC for a Hemlock Treatment Volunteer Workday on Saturday\, March 28th\, from 9:30-4:30. \nWe have tried to make this an annual tradition\, and now the Green needs our help more than ever. Hemlock trees are an essential and irreplaceable part of western North Carolina’s forests\, but for over 20 years\, they’ve been under threat from the hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA)—an invasive insect that can kill hemlocks in our region in as little as four years. \nHelp us protect hemlocks from HWA in the Green River Cove Road area! Volunteers will be moving through the forest off-trail applying insecticide to individual hemlocks for HWA control. Our workday site will have flatter terrain and a mostly dry river crossing; waterproof boots are recommended\, but not required. \nPlease note\, volunteers will be working with insecticide. Every volunteer will be paired with a trained HRI team member who will provide instruction and guidance. \nRegistration is required. To register\, visit the event page on our website and fill out the form at the bottom of the page by Thursday night\, March 26th. More details about the meeting location and what to bring will be provided after registration. Reach out to us at (828) 252-4783 with any questions. \nNote: Since we will be working with insecticide\, children under 18 and pets are not permitted at this event.

SUMMARY:Chamber Music Performance: Room 1078
DESCRIPTION:Room 1078’s mission is to support the 21st-century evolution of performance as classical musicians\, using innovative takes on contemporary repertoire\, improvisation\, and folk music to break down barriers between musicians and audience members. For them\, the process is as much about connecting with audience members as with each other\, and they are constantly exploring ways to engage listeners with passion\, energy\, and precision cultivated in live performance. \nFounded at the University of Michigan in 2015\, Room 1078 began its journey with the desire to promote the music of student composers. Its debut album\, By the Skin of Our Teeth\, was released in 2017 and comprises music composed entirely by UM alumnus Nathan Thatcher. The quartet has since incorporated its love of improvisation\, experimentation\, and folk music to craft intimate\, electrifying sets for audiences across the US. Over the past 10 years\, they’ve brought electronics\, contemporary classical works\, standard repertoire\, folk music\, and their own compositions to the Ann Arbor Summer Festival\, the YInMn Project\, the Fivesparks Music Festival\, Ann Arbor’s Third Place Concert Series\, and a range of venues from construction zones and meaderies to living rooms and concert halls. Their 2025 season brought them to the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop and the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Chamber Music @ AEIVA series\, where they shared space with writers\, composers\, and visual artists. \nThis is a 50-minute performance.

SUMMARY:AyurPrana Listening Room Presents: Wendy Eisenberg with Sally Anne Morgan
DESCRIPTION:APLR Presents: Wendy Eisenberg \nwith Sally Anne Morgan \nFriday\, March 27th\, 2026 \nDoors 6PM || Show 7PM \nWendy Eisenberg \nWendy Eisenberg has spent the past decade as a fixture of independent music and an artist of inspired multiplicity. As a singer-songwriter\, improviser\, and virtuoso guitarist\, the coordinates of their artistry are ever-shifting\, from art-rock to jazz to blistering free improv and eloquent folk. On catalog highlights including 2020’s ‘Auto’ and the 2024 free-jazz sprawler ‘Viewfinder’\, they’ve made a signature of ambition. \nAs Eisenberg told fellow guitarist Nick Millevoi in an interview for Premier Guitar in 2021\, “I need to be in a punk band at the same time as I need to be playing free improv at the same time as I need to be playing songs. All at the same time—otherwise none of the practices will work for me.” Their musical range isn’t a glib manifestation of eclecticism\, but a genuine artistic essence

SUMMARY:AyurPrana Listening Room Presents: Tara Clerkin Trio with Walt McClements
DESCRIPTION:APLR Presents: Tara Clerkin Trio \nwith Walt McClements \nThursday\, March 26th\, 2026 \nAyurPrana Listening Room – 312 Haywood Rd\, Asheville\, NC 28806 \nDoors 6:00 PM || Event 7:00 PM \nTara Clerkin Trio \nNot far off two years from the day\, Bristol’s Tara Clerkin Trio return to World of Echo and the EP format for a five song collection of quixotic\, emotional redolence. But do not mistake their absence for inertia. If their musical output has been a little sparse during those in-between years\, limited to a few solo ventures and an astonishing ten minute long piece as a trio\, their time has otherwise been richly spent: continuous writing and recording\, extensive live performances across Europe and Japan\, a cultivation of local and more far-flung artistic connections (musical and otherwise)\, and a monthly NTS show that\, through the voice of others\, speaks most obviously to their own unorthodox interests. It’s the conflux of that winding activity that leads indirectly to On The Turning Ground\, 26 minutes of probing\, thoughtful composition that draws from no one specific source. \nTheir inspirations might be centreless\, but the trio still possess a very obvious anchor in the form of their hometown. Bristol stands as a city of multitudes\, heterogenous and vibrant in such a way as to allow it to renew and remake time and again. Tara Clerkin Trio drink from that same well\, duly reflecting a rich musical heritage built on fwd-facing electronic subcultures and experimental urges. As such\, On The Turning Ground finds them subject to their own subtle internal evolution\, the pervasive sense that you’ve caught them mid-bloom\, on their way to becoming but never anything but themselves. \nThe two instrumental pieces that bookend the EP stand as a perfect case in point\, displaying an increasing mastery of compositional space. Pensive and restrained\, ‘Brigstow’ and ‘Once Around’ both emanate an interstitial quality that’s not so much after- as in-between-hours\, miniature dub-folk symphonies held together by the kind of tacit understanding that remains the preserve of only the closest of family units. If those two tracks are shaped by a sense of shifting temporality\, then the three vocal-led pieces that comprise the record’s core feel like a gentle ossifying of aesthetic into something approaching their own unique form of avant-pop. ‘Pop’ is\, of course\, a broadly subjective concept\, but there’s no avoiding the overt sparkling melodicism of songs like ‘Marble Walls’ and ‘The Turning Ground’\, undeniable re-directions of that late 90s impulse to bend pop sensibilities into off-centre terrain\, to render the familiar new again. This is what Tara Clerkin Trio do\, gently pulling the ground from under your feet\, turning you to face something you’d not quite seen before. To view the world as they do: sideways\, sometimes\, all of the time. \nWalt McClements \nWalt McClements is an accordionist\, multi-instrumentalist and composer based in Los Angeles. His solo compositions focus on processed accordion\, creating patient and emotional meditations that nod to drone and ambient music. His debut record\, “A Hole in the Fence” was released in 2021 on American Dreams\, and utilized a minimal palette of accordions processed through pedals to create glacial soundscapes and odes to hidden worlds. On his latest record\, and first for Western Vinyl\, “On a Painted Ocean”\, he expands his sonic tools to include lush synths\, droning pipe organs\, and spirited horns\, creating a vibrant journey from solitary stillness to community exuberance. The record also follows last year’s “Rain on the Road”\, a collaborative album with harpist Mary Lattimore\, released on Thrill Jockey.
