SUMMARY:AyurPrana Listening Room Presents: Marc Ribot
DESCRIPTION:Marc Ribot\, who the New York Times describes as “a deceptively articulate artist who uses inarticulateness as an expressive device\,” has released 25 albums under his own name over a 40-year career\, exploring everything from the pioneering jazz of Albert Ayler to the Cuban son of Arsenio Rodríguez. His solo release\, “Silent Movies” (Pi Recording 2010) has been described as a “down-in-mouth-near master piece” by the Village Voice and has landed on several Best of 2010 lists including the LA Times and critical praise across the board\, and 2014 saw the monumental release: Marc Ribot Trio Live at the Village Vanguard (Pi Recordings)\, documenting Marc’s first headline and the return of Henry Grimes at the historical venue in 2012 and included on Best of 2014 lists such as Downbeat Magazine and NPR’s 50 Favorites. \n2018 saw the release of two politically charged albums: “YRU Still Here?” (Northern Spy)\, the long awaited third album from Ribot’s post-rock/noise trio Ceramic Dog\, and “Songs of Resistance 1942-2018” (featuring guest vocalists Tom Waits\, Steve Earle\, Meshell Ndegeocello and more on Anti- Records) voicing anger and outrage during these turbulent times\, and both albums landing on various Best of 2018 lists including NPR’s All Songs Considered. \n2021 continues with a flurry of releases including Ceramic Dog’s “HOPE”\, recorded during the pandemic\, plus two reissues on vinyl for the first time: 1993’s long out-of-print “Marc Ribot Plays Solo Guitar Works of Frantz Casseus” & “Silent Movies” (2010). Additionally\, Marc’s first collection of writings\, “Unstrung: Rants & Stories of a Noise Guitarist”\, will be published by Akashic Books this August with an audiobook also in the works\, and Marc’s original score for limited series documentary\, “Queen of Meth”\, will premiere on the Discovery Channel. \nRolling Stone points out that “Guitarist Marc Ribot helped Tom Waits refine a new\, weird Americana on 1985’s Rain Dogs\, and since then he’s become the go-to guitar guy for all kinds of roots-music adventurers: Robert Plant and Alison Krauss\, Elvis Costello\, John Mellencamp.” Additional recording credits include Neko Case\, Diana Krall\, Elton John/Leon Russell’s The Union\, Solomon Burke\, John Lurie’s Lounge Lizards\, Marianne Faithful\, Joe Henry\, Allen Toussaint\, Medeski Martin & Wood\, Caetono Veloso\, Susana Baca\, Allen Ginsburg\, Madeline Peyroux\, Nora Jones\, Céu\, Akiko Yano\, The Black Keys\, and many others. Marc works regularly with Grammy® award winning producer T Bone Burnett and NY composer John Zorn. He has also composed and performed on numerous film scores such as “Walk The Line”\, “The Kids Are All Right\,” and “The Departed” (Scorcese).

SUMMARY:ENCOUNTERS WITH CREATIVES - JERRY MAXEY\, BASKET AND MIXED MEDIA ARTIST
DESCRIPTION:(FREE) Jerry Maxey will be on hand to demonstrate his basket weaving techniques developed over decades of persistent and skillful mastery. \nJerry’s work is wicker-weave basketry of dyed rattan and seagrass cord\, and lathe turned wood bases\, rings and rims. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind handmade original\, even when he makes a second piece with the same construction. The wood incorporated in his basketry is all found wood\, generally trees that have fallen in storms\, and the wooden elements have all the variety that nature provides. Once the wood has been turned\, he leaves them indoors for at least three weeks to cure and stabilize. Then he does a final sanding and finishes each piece with pure tung oil. The rattan spokes are then attached to the wood to construct the basket\, weaving in the colors and patterns as he goes. When completed\, he finishes the entire piece with tung oil to bring out the colors and produce a slightly aged patina to the work.

SUMMARY:Ayurprana Presents: Seán Johnson & The Wild Lotus Band with Samara Jade
DESCRIPTION:APLR Presents: Seán Johnson & The Wild Lotus Band \nwith guest vocalist Samara Jade \nFriday March 20th\, 2026 \nAyurPrana Listening Room – 312 Haywood Rd\, Asheville\, NC 28806 \nDoors 6PM || Event 7PM \nSeán Johnson & The Wild Lotus Band \nSeán Johnson & The Wild Lotus Band\, originally hailing from New Orleans\, and now based in Asheville\, have been blending ancient mantras with a rich tapestry of musical influences since their formation in 2005. \nThrough two decades of recording and touring around the country\, the band has helped thousands of people find grace and connection through their pioneering blend of East-meets-West mantra music. \nTheir music seamlessly integrates sacred chants from spiritual traditions\, conscious lyrics\, and elements of rock\, blues\, Celtic folk\, gospel\, and world grooves\, creating a sound that resonates with a diverse audience. \nFounded by vocalist\, lyricist\, and harmonium player Seán Johnson\, the band includes Alvin Young on bass and guitar\, Narada Wise on drums\, multi-instrumentalist Chris Rosser with guest vocalist Samara Jade. \nIn 2005\, Seán founded the band as a post-hurricane Katrina philanthropic music project\, raising funds across the country for relief from the devastation of the storm. The theme of searching for grace and inspiration amidst challenge and destruction has permeated their music ever since. \nIn 2007\, they released their first album\, ‘Calling The Spirits’ which caught the ears of pioneering Canadian record producer Terry McBride\, founder of Nettwerk Records and Lilith Fair. McBride signed the band to Nettwerk for the release of their follow-up album\, ‘Devaloka.’ Subsequent albums\, such as Unity\, which debuted at #1 on the iTunes World Music Chart\, and Mystery\, recognized as one of Louisiana’s best albums of the year by Offbeat Magazine\, have further solidified their place in the global spiritual music scene. \nWhen Putumayo World Music founder\, Dan Storper heard ‘Devaloka\,’ he chose music off the record to be featured on Putumayo’s first compilation of music designed for yoga. Inclusion on three Putumayo albums has helped propel the band’s music to listeners across the world. \nThey are a favorite headliner at conscious music festivals across the U.S. and made history as the first mantra-based band to perform at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. \n“The music of Seán Johnson & The Wild Lotus Band flows from the mystical confluence of the Ganges River and the Mississippi Delta—the deep bhakti tradition of Indian devotional chanting fused with the polyglot cultural cross-currents that so enrich the music of the group’s hometown of New Orleans\, Louisiana. This beloved band evoke\, conjure and celebrate that universally felt yet impossible-to-define essence that lies at the heart of all things\, what Bob Marley once called “a natural mystic\, flowing through the air.” — Alan di Perna (Rolling Stone) \nThis concert marks the kick-off of their annual BHAKTImmersion\, a weeklong immersion for anyone who wishes to deepen their life and steep in the arts of bhakti – including devotional song\, poetry\, movement\, and music-making\, including harmonium and drum lessons. SUMMARY:"Tiny Beautiful Things" at NC Stage
DESCRIPTION:Based on the bestselling book by Cheryl Strayed and adapted for the stage by Nia Vardalos\, Tiny Beautiful Things personifies the questions and answers that “Sugar” was publishing online from 2010-2012.
