Books for readers from birth through high school will include English- and Spanish-language titles. Educators may select up to 50 books each for their classrooms\, with no cap on the number of educators who may participate from one school. \nThe event falls on the second anniversary of Hurricane Helene and will recognize the sustained work of students\, families\, educators\, schools\, and community partners throughout our region’s education recovery. \nJoin us from noon-4 p.m. at Martin L. DESCRIPTION:“Michelangelo – Love and Death” offers a cinematic journey through the great chapels and museums of Florence\, Rome and the Vatican\, to the print and drawing rooms of Europe\, to explore Michelangelo’s tempestuous life. The film goes in search of a greater understanding of this charismatic and enigmatic figure\, both through his relationships with his contemporaries and his ongoing artistic legacy. The film invites audiences to intimately examine Michelangelo’s art and artistic process – from the Carrara quarries where Michelangelo sourced his marble\, to the new technology being used to attribute works. The film also offers a rare chance to get up close to the mesmerizing Rothschild Bronzes\, which\, following an extensive research project carried out by Academics in Cambridge in 2015\, were positively attributed to Michelangelo after over a century of debate.

Founded by singer-songwriter and producer Stuart Ross Johnson-Kwochka\, Ross Hollow has come full circle: from its beginnings as a solo act\, to a full band\, and now back to its core with Stuart Ross at the helm\, writing and recording from a quiet corner in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains.\nRoss Hollow’s music is as much about place as it is about people. Born in the high desert of Roswell\, New Mexico\, his earliest memories are steeped in the sounds of Spanish folk\, cowboy ballads\, and classic country—music that echoed under wide-open skies\, thunderstorms you could see miles away\, and sun-drenched plains. He later moved to Burnsville\, North Carolina\, where Appalachian gospel\, bluegrass\, and Scots-Irish folk music left their mark. DESCRIPTION:(FREE) Rebecca Kahrs Willis will be on site to demonstrate some of her techniques and experiences in watercolor painting. \nRebecca Kahrs’ unique paintings feature vibrant color and originality in style. From her intimate wildlife close-ups to her intricate still life’s\, her work explores the rare and beautiful. “My desire is to show life in a vibrant and flourishing way\, with all of the attention to color and detail that may sometimes be overlooked\,” she says. She has been a signature member of the Georgia Watercolor Society and a member of the Southern Watercolor Society. Her work has been featured several times in national publications including Watercolor Artist and Artist Magazine. In 2002 she was featured in Watercolor Artist’s annual edition of “Ones to Watch”.

SUMMARY:Adult Studio: Beginner Drop Spinning
DESCRIPTION:Your life is filled with textiles made from various spun threads and yarn.  Come deepen those connections with the fibers that are deeply woven into many aspects  of our lives by trying your hand at one of the earliest ways to handspin yarn using a drop spindle.  Join us for a fun\, educational and meditative day of  learning the top whirl dropspindle\, and maybe some other styles as welll.  We will prepare\, card and spin raw wool fleece to create yarn on a drop spindle. You may have time to try different types of fibers and even different types of spindles.  You will get to take home your first handspun yarn\, as well as a drop spindle  to continue exploring this new skill. \nJamie Sparks is a multidisciplinary artist and educator with over 30 years of experience teaching learners of all ages. She has spent more than two decades working with natural fibers\, specializing in spinning and felting\, and has taught throughout the southeastern U.S.\, including the John C. Campbell Folk School\, Tryon Arts and Crafts School\, assisting at Penland School of Crafts and numerous arts councils.  Her fiber arts instruction emphasizes the transformation of raw fleece into finished pieces\, combining traditional techniques with an accessible\, hands-on approach. Jamie holds an Associates in Metalsmithing from Haywood Community College\, where she developed her skills in metalwork and design. Prior to her work in the arts\, she focused life as a herbal educator and plant biologist with a focus on the relationship between humans and plants—a passion that continues to influence her creative practice.
