SUMMARY:Amazing Arabian Architecture - Sufra Time at Mocha Box Coffeehouse
DESCRIPTION:What if some of the world’s first skyscrapers were built—not from steel and glass—but from mud? \nAcross Arabia\, extraordinary builders transformed deserts\, mountains and ancient cities into architectural wonders. Towering mud-brick homes rise from Yemen’s valleys. Intricate geometric patterns turn ordinary windows and walls into works of art. Courtyards\, arches and ingenious ventilation systems create beauty and comfort in some of the world’s most demanding environments. \nIn Amazing Arabian Architecture\, part of Sufra Time: An Immersive Arabian Dining Journey\, you’ll travel through centuries of remarkable design and human ingenuity. Explore Yemen’s astonishing vertical cities\, the ornate tower houses of Old Sana’a\, dramatic mosques and palaces\, and ancient structures engineered to work in harmony with the land—all created long before modern machinery\, air conditioning or high-rise construction. \nThe evening also uncovers a surprising connection between Arabia and Appalachia. In both regions\, generations of builders relied on local materials\, practical knowledge and skills passed down through families. Whether constructing a Yemeni tower house or an Appalachian log cabin\, architecture became an expression of resourcefulness\, community and adaptation to mountainous terrain. \nThrough cinematic imagery\, dramatic storytelling\, Arabian food and lively audience participation\, **Amazing Arabian Architecture** reveals that buildings are never merely buildings. They preserve the identity\, values and imagination of the people who created them. \nCome discover cities that seem to rise from the earth itself—and an architectural legacy so ingenious\, beautiful and unexpected that it may completely change the way you see Arabia.

SUMMARY:Damien Jurado: ‘All hits & no misses tour’ w/ St. Yuma
DESCRIPTION:STANDING ROOM ONLY \nDAMIEN JURADO\n“Play on\, there’s no such thing as better days\,” Damien Jurado sings on “Roger\,” the sweeping wash of a song that opens Reggae Film Star\, his 18th full length album and second release from Jurado’s own Maraqopa Records label. But as he enters his 25th year as a recording artist\, it’s clear these are\, at the least\, very good days for Jurado on the creative front. In these 12 songs\, which evoke half-recalled dreams and overheard conversations\, the cosmic rushes headlong into the autobiographical and specific moments on the clock fade from past to future to scenes set only in the eternal now. Playing out like a backlot documentary filmed on the location of an unnamed TV or film set—maybe a sitcom taping\, or perhaps it’s a low budget science fiction B-movie\, or could it be a talk show?—the album is populated by performers awaiting call times\, camera operators praying for their shot\, and studio audiences rapt with anticipation. The stars here eschew glitz and glamor. Instead\, they wander grocery stores and parking lots in the verdant Pacific Northwest and the desert Southwest\, looking for payphones and a sense of purpose. Produced by Jurado with multi-instrumentalist Josh Gordon and recording engineer Alex Bush at Sonikwire studio in Irvine\,CA\, Jurado’s home away from home and musical headquarters\, the record’s compositions are among the most musically rich in his vast discography\, encompassing romantic AM gold\, ‘60s psychedelia\, driving rock & roll\, Latin shuffles\, and left of the dial ambiance. Strings swell\, melodic bass bubbles\, and piano sparkles\, undergirding Jurado’s unmistakable voice\, at once intimately present and ghostly\, grounded in the here and now but capable\, at any moment\, of drifting off into the divinatory. Following threads established by 2021’s The Monster Who Hated Pennsylvania\, the album sees Jurado embracing his auteur era\, penning vignettes that arrive with little fanfare and depart quicker than you might suspect\, only to linger long after they wrap. Seeking a skeleton key to decipher the action is beside the point—Jurado’s songs are worlds meant to be lived in\, not picked apart—but on the beatific single “What Happened To The Class Of ‘65?” the singer imagines himself as both the viewer and the viewed\, the eye behind the camera and its subject. This emotional and spiritual transference animates Reggae Film Star. Like a masterful director\, Jurado offers motivation to the listener\, staring unblinkingly from the mise-en-scène in your mind. “Look into the camera\,” he commands on “The Day Of The Robot\,” “One more time with anger/And sadness/I believe you.” A quarter-century in\, Jurado remains gripped by his visions and driven by an unmatched creative drive. Reggae Film Star is one of Damien Jurado’s finest works to date\, a stunning new feature from one of indie rock’s most cinematic figures. Here on this sound stage\, you are the camera\, you are the scene\, you are the setting\, and you are the viewer. Please try not to blink. -Jason P. Woodbury \nST. YUMA

Dinners include a generous portion of tender\, juicy BBQ pork\, homemade BBQ sauce\, home baked beans\, North Carolina BBQ slaw and a southern roll. \nThe charge for BBQ dinner plates will be $12.00. Reservations are not required. Creekside Picnic Tables available for all. Additional donations to benefit the Scouts are always appreciated. A special All Beef Hotdogs and chips will be available for $6.00 \n“Local Scouting America Packs and Troops raise funds to provide support for Scouts in their service area\,” said Committee Chairman Dan Little. “Fundraising creates equality in Scouting\, allowing youth to attend camps and activities they otherwise couldn’t afford. Scouting programs cost far more than the national registration fee covers and fundraising is the only way to keep activities affordable\, equitable\, and high quality for every family.” \nRaised funds are also used to purchase flags for our veterans’ graves. On Memorial Day\, Independence Day and Veterans Day\, Scout Troop 17 honors our deceased veterans at Bethel United Methodist Cemetery by placing United States flags on their graves. \nIf you have a youth between kindergarten and 18 years that would be interested in Scouts\, there will be a Scouting America representative at the BBQ event to provide information on membership. \nScouts Serving Others: Since 1910\, over 4\,200 young men in Western North Carolina have earned the coveted rank of Eagle Scout. Through their Eagle Scout service projects\, thousands of community service hours have been conducted to benefit Western North Carolina communities. Scouts in WNC will perform over 40\,000 hours of community service in 2026.

SUMMARY:Asheville Symphony Masterworks 1: Fellowship
DESCRIPTION:Darko Butorac\, conductor \nJakob Aumiller\, piano \nWhat does genius look like? Often it looks like community. Brahms crafted his exuberant First Piano Concerto through years of collaboration with close friends and mentors\, including Clara Schumann who inspired the concerto’s dreamy second movement. Beethoven’s relentless Seventh Symphony — a personal favorite of his with its unyielding rhythmic drive — premiered at a charity concert performed by an orchestra of friends and fellow composers. Both works emerged from profound creative kinship and community\, proof that greatness rarely stands alone. \nBrahms: Piano Concerto No. 1 \nBeethoven: Symphony No. 7

SUMMARY:Exhibition on Screen | Michelangelo: Love and Death
DESCRIPTION:“Michelangelo – Love and Death” offers a cinematic journey through the great chapels and museums of Florence\, Rome and the Vatican\, to the print and drawing rooms of Europe\, to explore Michelangelo’s tempestuous life. The film goes in search of a greater understanding of this charismatic and enigmatic figure\, both through his relationships with his contemporaries and his ongoing artistic legacy. The film invites audiences to intimately examine Michelangelo’s art and artistic process – from the Carrara quarries where Michelangelo sourced his marble\, to the new technology being used to attribute works. The film also offers a rare chance to get up close to the mesmerizing Rothschild Bronzes\, which\, following an extensive research project carried out by Academics in Cambridge in 2015\, were positively attributed to Michelangelo after over a century of debate.

SUMMARY:Brevard Philharmonic presents Casablanca
DESCRIPTION:Brevard Philharmonic Presents Casablanca with Live Orchestra on September 27 \nThe Brevard Philharmonic will open its 50th Anniversary Season with a special presentation of\none of Hollywood’s most beloved films\, Casablanca\, on Sunday\, September 27\, at 3:00 p.m. at\nthe Porter Center at Brevard College. For the first time in its history\, the Brevard Philharmonic\nwill perform a film with a live orchestra\, bringing Max Steiner’s celebrated score to life as the\nclassic movie unfolds on the big screen. \nReleased in 1942\, Casablanca has become one of the most enduring films in American cinema.\nStarring Humphrey Bogart\, Ingrid Bergman\, and Paul Henreid\, the Academy Award-winning\nfilm tells the story of Rick Blaine\, an American expatriate whose world is turned upside down\nwhen a former love unexpectedly enters his nightclub in wartime Casablanca. \nWith its unforgettable characters\, romantic story\, suspense\, and iconic dialogue\, Casablanca\ncontinues to captivate audiences more than 80 years after its release. The live orchestral\nperformance adds another dimension to the experience\, allowing audiences to hear Steiner’s\nsweeping\, dramatic music performed in real time by the Brevard Philharmonic while watching\nthe film. \n“Casablanca is one of those films that seems to get better every time you see it\,” said Dusty\nCampbell\, Executive Director of the Brevard Philharmonic. “We wanted to do something special\nto celebrate our 50th Anniversary\, and presenting this iconic movie with a live orchestra is a\nperfect way to introduce something new while celebrating the power of great music and\nstorytelling. I think audiences are going to love experiencing this film in an entirely new way.” \nThe presentation is part of the Brevard Philharmonic’s 2026–2027 50th Anniversary Season\,\nmarking five decades of professional orchestral performances and outreach in Transylvania\nCounty and the surrounding region. In celebration of this milestone\, a special pre-concert\nreception will be held in the Porter Center lobby beginning at 2:15 p.m. before the concert. \nThe Brevard Philharmonic’s mission is to inspire\, educate\, and enrich audiences through\nexceptional professional musical performances and community outreach. Throughout its 50-year history\, the orchestra has brought outstanding music to the community while providing\neducational opportunities for thousands of local students through its Music in the Schools\nprograms. \nTickets for Casablanca are available now and going fast. SUMMARY:PATIO SHOW: Ross Hollow with Full Band
DESCRIPTION:– LIMITED PATIO SEATING IS FIRST COME FIRST SERVE \nROSS HOLLOW WITH FULL BAND\nRoss Hollow is an indie folk artist out of Asheville\, North Carolina rooted in honest lyricism\, inviting melodies and a rugged spirit of individualism. Founded by singer-songwriter and producer Stuart Ross Johnson-Kwochka\, Ross Hollow has come full circle: from its beginnings as a solo act\, to a full band\, and now back to its core with Stuart Ross at the helm\, writing and recording from a quiet corner in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains.\nRoss Hollow’s music is as much about place as it is about people. Born in the high desert of Roswell\, New Mexico\, his earliest memories are steeped in the sounds of Spanish folk\, cowboy ballads\, and classic country—music that echoed under wide-open skies\, thunderstorms you could see miles away\, and sun-drenched plains. He later moved to Burnsville\, North Carolina\, where Appalachian gospel\, bluegrass\, and Scots-Irish folk music left their mark. He later moved to Indianapolis\, Indiana\, where he was surrounded by heartland rock\, chicago blues and rust-belt emo\, which began to shape his own songwriting voice. \nNow settled back in Asheville\, Ross Hollow finds inspiration in fog-draped mornings\, rhododendron thickets\, the quiet of mountain trails\, and the wild animals all around. Recent work leans into a more organic\, acoustic sound\, rich with finger picked guitar\, warm harmonies\, and collaborations with guest vocalists and string players that evoke the natural beauty in Southern Appalachia
