Self-produced\, When We Disappear features nine new tracks co-written by co-founders Tim Bluhm and Greg Loiacono — collection of lit-psych rock songs Inspired by psychology and literature — as well as a raw\, garagey cover of Buffy St. Marie’s 1964 addiction song “Codine.” \n“Greg [Loiacono\, co-founder) sent me a rough demo of this song and I thought it was promising\,” says Hips co-founder Tim Bluhm of “When We Disappear.” “What he was singing was place-holder gibberish\, or sounds mixed with some actual lyrics\, including what would become the title. I went through it and matched words to his sounds and then tweaked the words to tell a kind of impressionistic history of our adventures together. In this way I believe both Greg’s and my own subconscious worlds revealed themselves. DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, you will learn the fundamentals of using a palette knife to paint! No previous experience with palette knife painting or oil paints is necessary.​ THIS CLASS HAS A SURPRISE TOPIC TOO! \nLinda will give a brief overview of the use of the knife and explain and demonstrate several different techniques for using it in your paintings. She will also provide the initial reference photograph from which you will work – everyone will work from the same reference. If you are a fast worker\, you will have a few other reference photos from which you can choose for a second painting! \nPainting surfaces (canvas boards)\, solvents\, gloves\, palette knives\, paper towels\, etc. will be provided. Bring an apron if you are a messy painter! Also\, bring a snack for a quick lunch break and a means of transporting your wet  work of art home – we recommend a box or tray with low sides.

DESCRIPTION:Shibori is a Japanese method of resist dying which goes back hundreds of years. Indigo dye is often used to get the distinctive patterns you may recognize in today’s fashion and home décor fabrics. \nIn this hands-on two-day workshop\, artist Diane Kuehn will share the fundamentals of shibori folding and binding techniques to create beautiful patterns on fabric with indigo dye. We will also learn to prepare an indigo vat and how to prepare fabric to dye with scouring techniques. Students can expect to make pillow or napkin sized sample pieces and a cotton scarf. An additional small piece of clothing to upcycle can be brought from home. \nSuitable for beginner and intermediate skill levels.

Musically\, the program is very fulfilling\, and we can’t wait to share it with audiences of all ages. Our goal for Saturday is that children feel the joy of being immersed in orchestral music\, with room to dance and be creative! SUMMARY:ENCOUNTERS WITH CREATIVES – JERRY MAXEY\, BASKET AND MIXED MEDIA ARTIST
DESCRIPTION:(FREE) Jerry Maxey will be on hand to demonstrate his basket weaving techniques developed over decades of persistent and skillful mastery. \nJerry’s work is wicker-weave basketry of dyed rattan and seagrass cord\, and lathe turned wood bases\, rings and rims. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind handmade original\, even when he makes a second piece with the same construction. The wood incorporated in his basketry is all found wood\, generally trees that have fallen in storms\, and the wooden elements have all the variety that nature provides. Once the wood has been turned\, he leaves them indoors for at least three weeks to cure and stabilize. Then he does a final sanding and finishes each piece with pure tung oil. The rattan spokes are then attached to the wood to construct the basket\, weaving in the colors and patterns as he goes. When completed\, he finishes the entire piece with tung oil to bring out the colors and produce a slightly aged patina to the work.

DESCRIPTION:Shibori is a Japanese method of resist dying which goes back hundreds of years. Indigo dye is often used to get the distinctive patterns you may recognize in today’s fashion and home décor fabrics. \nIn this hands-on two-day workshop\, artist Diane Kuehn will share the fundamentals of shibori folding and binding techniques to create beautiful patterns on fabric with indigo dye. We will also learn to prepare an indigo vat and how to prepare fabric to dye with scouring techniques. Students can expect to make pillow or napkin sized sample pieces and a cotton scarf. An additional small piece of clothing to upcycle can be brought from home.

Contributors include maverick filmmaker and artist Peter Greenaway\, The Times’ Chief Art Critic Rachel Campbell-Johnston\, and Director of the Het Noordbrabants Museum Dr. Charles de Mooij. \n“The Curious World of Hieronymus Bosch” allows audiences to appreciate the detail of Bosch’s paintings like never before\, offering close-up views of the curiosities hidden within his brimming canvases\, from cannibalistic clergymen to three- headed birds.

DESCRIPTION:STANDING ROOM ONLY \nSILVERADA\nEvolution. It’s what keeps the best bands afloat — song after song\, show after show\, record after record. \nMike Harmeier was still in his early 20s when he formed Mike and the Moonpies. From the start\, they were the definition of a workingman’s country band\, cutting their teeth with five-hour sets on Austin’s dancehall circuit before spreading their music to the rest of America. By the early 2020s\, they’d become global ambassadors of homegrown Texas music\, flying their flag everywhere from Abbey Road Studios (where they recorded 2019’s Cheap Silver & Solid Country Gold with help from the London Symphony Orchestra) to the Grand Ole Opry. \nThe growth was remarkable\, but all that momentum left Harmeier and his four bandmates — drummer Taylor Englert\, guitarist Catlin Rutherford\, bassist Omar Oyoque\, and steel guitarist Zachary Moulton — looking for something new. After all\, their music had decidedly changed. Why shouldn’t their name do the same? \nSilverada marks a new chapter in the band’s history. It’s not just the title of the boldest release of the group’s critically-acclaimed career; it’s also the name of the reinvigorated band itself. \n“Back in the day\, all we wanted to do was play the Broken Spoke\,” says Harmeier\, nodding to the hometown honky-tonk in Austin\, TX\, where Silverada began sowing the seeds for a sound that mixed timeless twang with modern-day dynamics. “We had different aspirations back then. We were still figuring out what kind of band we were gonna be\, and that took a lot of time and a lot of records. \nA lot of records\, indeed. Silverada marks the group’s ninth release\, and it balances the strengths they’ve accumulated along the way — sharp\, detailed songwriting that bounces between autobiographical sketches and character studies; gorgeous swells of pedal steel that drift through the songs like weather; a rhythm section capable of country shuffles\, hard-charging rock & roll tempos\, and everything in between — with a willingness to break old rules and open new doors. “Radio Wave” is a roots-rock anthem for the highway and the heartland\, peppered with Springsteen-worthy hooks and War On Drugs-inspired atmospherics. “Eagle Rare” launches the band into outer space during its explosive middle section\, which the band improvised in the recording studio. “Stay By My Side” showcases Silverada’s road-warrior credentials — the band recorded the track live during a tour across the American Southeast\, capturing it in a single take at Capricorn Sound Studios in Macon\, Georgia — while “Wallflower” blends the organic with the otherworldly\, finding room for harmonized guitar solos\, driving disco beats\, and 808 percussion. \n“Going into the studio\, everybody in the band felt inspired to do something bigger than what they’d done before\,” Harmeier explains. “We all knew we were at a precipice\, and we wanted to jump. I brought in some songs that were metaphorical and not always straightforward\, and that showed the guys that I wanted to take this music somewhere new… so they threw their own rulebooks out the window\, too.”
