Naucke & World Room \nMonday\, October 12th\, 2026 \nAyurPrana Listening Room – 312 Haywood Rd\, Asheville\, NC 28806 \nDoors 6 PM || Show 7 PM \nHorse Lords \nHorse Lords were founded in Baltimore\, Maryland in 2010; they evolved from the experimental collective Teeth Mountain and began as a trio with drummer Sam Haberman\, guitarist Owen Gardner\, and bassist Max Eilbacher\, soon adding alto saxophonist Andrew Bernstein to the core ensemble. Though Horse Lords grew out of the fertile Baltimore noise and leftfield rock scene\, a storied environment for artists and weirdos that has nurtured many an influential outsider band (Lungfish\, Matmos)\, their approach is more omnivorous than the stippled rhythms of instrumental electric rock would indicate. \nAcross sixteen years of frequent touring\, Horse Lords have released ten studio\, live\, and collaboration albums in addition to a split EP with fellow Baltimoreans Lower Dens\, a handful of singles and compilation tracks. For RVNG’s FRKWYS series\, the band collaborated with Berlin-based composer Arnold Dreyblatt\, a onetime student of La Monte Young and Pauline Oliveros whose just intonation chamber music was a crucial part of the post-Fluxus Downtown New York City environment. \nWith the relocation of three of the four members to Germany beginning in 2021\, the potential for more further creative exploration\, and performance opportunities including the Moers Festival (with an 11-piece lineup\, interpreting Julius Eastman’s music as well as their own)\, the interdisciplinary phases of the band’s music was poised for fascinating new directions. The band observes “We are always trying to balance working within the limitations of the quartet and pushing beyond them. \nFor their second studio album on RVNG Intl.\, Demand To Be Taken To Heaven Alive!\, Horse Lords have followed this notion and augmented the instrumentation\, expanding the format slightly to include bass clarinetist Madison Greenstone (TAK Ensemble)\, trombonist Weston Olencki (Nate Wooley\, RAGE Thormbones) and vocalists Nina Guo (Departure Duo) and Evelyn Saylor (Holly Herndon\, Caterina Barbieri) across a program of twelve original compositions. \nDemand To Be Taken To Heaven Alive! is a reference to a line in a poem by Russian Futurist writer Vladimir Myakovsky\, and the band have also name-checked the Bauhaus weaver Anni Albers (wife of painter Josef Albers)\, Islamic geometrical patterning\, Dutch avant-garde group the Maciunas Ensemble (themselves named after Fluxus artist and typographer George Maciunas)\, composer/writers Tom Johnson\, Henry Flynt and Catherine Christer Hennix\, and musically draw from sources as diverse as Roscoe Holcolmb\, James Brown\, Kuwaiti/Bahraini sawt\, and electronic composers Maryanne Amacher and Jaap Vink. \nAs the members are keen to point out\, Demand To Be Taken To Heaven Alive! is “a bid for the flattening of time and perception in favor of greater goods [and] the iterative nature of reaching/building a paradise in this life\, not the next\,” and the new album at hand is an illuminating starting point for eternal nowness. \nWorld Room \nWorld Room is the trio of Ashley Paul (saxophone)\, Jake Pugh (electronics)\, and Shane Justice McCord (bass clarinet\, piano). The music revolves around minimalist compositions\, improvisation\, and live processing. They’ve been blessed to perform at the Black Mountain College ReHappening experimental arts festival\, Black Mountain College museum\, and to have recently supported Wolf Eyes. Their debut album is out this autumn on Orange Milk Records. \nBrett W​.​​ Naucke \nBrett W​.​​ Naucke is an American experimental composer and visual artist from Chicago\, IL currently based in Asheville\, NC. \nNaucke’s sonic output has been primarily focused on marrying an ever-evolving practice of synthesis with conceptual narratives. His most recent recordings have been released by a wide variety of acclaimed labels such as American Dreams\, Spectrum Spools\, Umor Rex\, L.I.E.S\, and Hausu Mountain in addition to many others since 2010. Beyond live performance\, Naucke has provided the original scores for several films\, sound design for interactive gaming\, and presented many works for multi-channel audio and video installations. \nAll ages\nEnding Time is an estimate\nTickets only sold through DICE. Though he’s called many places home\, he remains deeply connected to the mountains that raised him. That search for meaning\, belonging\, something just beyond the next bend\, is entangled in his lyrics. \nBluegrass and Appalachian traditions anchor the sonic foundation of his music\, paired with authentic lyrics that cut deep. Nate references artists like Pete Seeger\, Jason Isbell\, and The Lumineers\, as he aspires to write songs that feel both timeless and personal. \nNate released his debut EP Burn My Heart in December 2025\, with singles “Who You Were” and the title track emerging as fan favorites. He followed the release with “7 Year Rust\,” and his new songs “Burning Cold” and “Carolina girls” in May of this year. DESCRIPTION:If you’ve been wanting to add moody effects to your photography\, or combine photos and encaustic\, this is a great one-day\, beginner-friendly intro! Bridget will supply images in class for you to use already printed with archival inks on encaustic-friendly paper\, so no need to bring anything!  \nBridget will share her favorite method for mounting photographs on cradled wood panels\, as well as the step-by-step method she uses to layer colored pencil\, watercolor\, encaustic medium\, oil paint\, and pan pastels to bring the images to life. The effect is a lot like a wonderful\, vintage\, hand-tinted photograph! Add collage elements and textured encaustic paint into the encaustic\, and the results can be quirky\, energetic\, and much more modern!  \nStudents will have an opportunity to work with two images\, one sized for an 8×8 panel and one sized for an 8×10 panel. Students will be able to choose from a variety of black and white or sepia-toned “found ancestor” portraits\, landscapes\, and more.  \nWant to use your own images? Bridget will reach out a few weeks before class\, and for an extra fee\, students with digital photo experience can send two images to Bridget for formatting and printing. \nStudents will come away with two completed pieces\, as well as information on how to print and work with their own images to create “encaustic photo effects” in their own home studios. Participants will also receive basic instruction on safety and as well as techniques for working with encaustic medium and encaustic collage.

He has become known for raw emotion and a profound connection to his audience\, which for his solo years took on the name of “The Bonnevilles”. 2024 saw Josiah and the Bonnevilles reaching new heights\, completing a headlining tour of thirty-three sold-out dates followed by a slew of international stops that proved his global following. After taking 2025 away from the public eye to work on new music\, 2026 brought the 4th JATB album “As Is’ and the accompaniment of a stellar cast of musicians both in studio and and stage.\nLeming comes by his empathy for working people honestly. He’s one of nine siblings\, born and raised in Morristown\, Tennessee\, right in the heart of Appalachia. His father was a factory worker. He taught himself piano when he was eight and was writing songs by thirteen. SUMMARY:Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands
DESCRIPTION:This is the biannual flagship event of the Southern Highland Craft Guild\, a nearly 100 year old alliance of fine craftspeople across the 9 states of Southern Appalachia. Over 100 artists will have their work for sale\, ranging from fine jewelry to handcrafted furniture to handwoven garments and more\, including representation from Qualla Arts\, the artisan cooperative of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. There are artist demonstrations throughout the event all four days\, and live mountain music on Saturday and Sunday.

He quickly became a fixture on the Austin comedy scene and was tapped to work with the likes of – Ron White\, George Lopez\, Greg Giraldo and Mitch Hedberg to name a few. He was asked to perform at Showtimes Latino Laff Festival 3 years in a row and has also performed at the Philly Fringe Festival\, New York Comedy Festival\, Skankfest and also a multiple finalist in the ‘Funniest Person in Austin’ Contest. With his odd yet common sensical take on the world around him\, the Austin Chronicle called him the ‘Anti Hero of Comedy’\nTrey moved to NYC in 2008 and has continued to maintain an underground following around the NYC comedy scene. He’s not great at writing bio’s\, but he is a regular on Doug Benson’s Doug Loves Movies Podcast and the ‘Getting Doug with High’ web series. DESCRIPTION:Ages 18 and up \nHigh June doesn’t quite know what they are\, and honestly\, they’re fine with that. What they do know is that their sound is alternative\, boundless\, and unapologetically theirs. Drawing inspiration from a chaotic mix of genres\, High June delivers a unique sonic experience backed by high-energy performances and a complete disregard for sticking to the rules. \nFormed in 2021\, the band didn’t lock in their final lineup until 2023 at East Carolina University\, essentially becoming five unpredictable college students united by a love for music and a shared goal of avoiding “real jobs” at all costs. \nTheir debut single\, “Crazy ‘Bout You\,” dropped in July 2023. Since then\, they’ve released ten more tracks—none of which sound alike\, yet all unmistakably sound like High June. Each release is a new experiment\, a new risk\, and a step toward something bigger. The band is constantly chasing better songs\, tighter performances\, and any opportunity that helps them grow (and keep dodging that 9-to-5 life). \nNow riding the wave of their latest single\, “Last Cigarette\,” a gritty sex driven song that’s quickly gaining traction\, High June captures their raw emotion and passion in a way that feels both intimate and explosive. It’s messy\, it’s real\, and it’s only the beginning. \nCadalay is an alternative rock trio from Philadelphia\, currently based in Nashville\, Tennessee. The band has been writing and performing together since 2022 and has recently found success with their singles “The River” and “Forsaken”. Their energetic live performances have captured audiences and they continue to write and record in Nashville.

SUMMARY:ENCAUSTIC COMPREHENSIVE with Bridget Benton
DESCRIPTION:This class includes two days of instruction and all materials – encaustic medium\, professional quality pigments\, up to eight panels sized from 2.5”x3.5” to 8”x10”\, and a variety of collage papers\, as well as use of all the tools\, equipment\, and materials you will need to complete several small works using a wide variety of techniques!  Bridget Benton has been working in encaustic as her primary medium since 2006\, and designs her classes so that participants can arrive with nothing more than an attitude of exploration and have a great time!  \nLearn about tools and materials\, safety\, and how to set up your own home studio – including money-saving tips and tricks. We’ll focus on archival methods\, best practices\, and the basics of encaustic – including preparing your panels\, priming panels with encaustic medium\, and the proper fusing of layers – as well as giving you lots of time to play and experiment.   \nWe’ll cover working additively and subtractively\, color mixing\, translucent vs. opaque colors\, scraping and incising\, basic image transfers\, collaging and embedding papers\, use of stencils and masks\, controlled and fluid application of color\, and various ways of building texture and creating impressions directly into the encaustic surface. We’ll also look at ways of adding finishing touches to your pieces using pan pastels\, oil paints and oil sticks\, and even foils and shimmers. \nThe focus is on experimentation and discovering what’s possible with encaustic! Excellent course for beginners\, those looking for a solid skill set from which to launch their own studio exploration\, and those with some encaustic experience looking to refine their skills and learn new tips and tricks.

Bass player Steve Streit and drummer Joe Esposito provide a solid foundation for these rock n’ roll gems and serve the music like altar boys. \nKiller Skillet\nKiller Skillet is a Rock band based in Asheville\, NC. They started as a group of friends that liked to gather for cookouts and then decided to start playing music together. Their songs include some stuff that is a little bluesy\, some stuff that may sound a little jazzy\, some punk\, some Metal\, and even a Ska-punk/Cumbia song… kinda like when you throw everything you have in the fridge into the skillet to make a scramble.
