SUMMARY:Adult Studio: Introduction to Papermaking
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will give you hands-on experience working with several pulps to learn the basics of western style mould and deckle papermaking.\nYou will learn:\n• how to process recycled and commercial fibers into pulp at home or in a paper studio\n• what tools and equipment are needed for papermaking\n• how to pull\, press and dry sheets of paper\nThe day will start with a discussion about papermaking and will explore a variety of handmade paper samples. Afterwards\, we will set up vats of pulp and make sheets of paper together. Each participant will take home a stack of sample papers. It’s up to you how you use the finished sheets. All are welcome. No experience necessary. \nAlyssa Sacora (she/her) is a crafts person working in plant-based mediums of papermaking\, book arts\, basketry\, and weaving. She finds inspiration by observing relationships between plants and humans throughout time. To reduce her footprint and encourage creative thinking\, she primarily works with locally available and repurposed natural materials. In addition to and in support of her craft\, she tends a large garden in Fairview\, NC with fruits and vegetables\, medicinal herbs\, and art plants. \nAlyssa has taught for a variety of organizations in WNC and often utilizes an outside setting to help her students make the connection that we are nature and that our lives are intertwined with the plants\, the soil\, and the air around us. SUMMARY:Spirited Improv Fall Night Time Playshop Series in Asheville
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT SPIRITED IMPROV \nSpirited Improv is a unique fusion of expressive arts\, spiritual practice\, and group play that helps you release fear\, trust the unknown\, and show up as your truest self. Through embodied improvisational play\, movement\, voice\, storytelling\, music\, and customery\, we create a living container where authenticity is welcomed and presence is practiced. Over time\, this shared experience fosters deep connection\, confidence\, and a felt sense of belonging. \nFacilitated by Jessica Chilton\, who brings over 20 years of improvisational performing arts experience and 16 years as an expressive arts therapist\, weaving creativity\, spirituality\, and presence into a safe\, transformative group experience. \nSpirited Improv is for those seeking a spiritual community grounded in lived experience\, where growth happens through relationship\, creativity\, and the courage to show up fully. As we transform individually through improv\, we strengthen the collective and contribute to a more compassionate world. \nWHAT PAST PARTICIPANTS ARE SAYING \n“Spirited Improv is authentic\, vulnerable and connective. It meets my need to deeply feel\, be seen and see others. On my first night I experienced such a profound healing experience after sharing what was on my heart. It was like a sound\, healing touch\, full moon energy bath that opened my heart. ” ~ Kate \n“Spirited Improv is a fun and little bit edgy way of interacting with the mystery of the moment. You decide how much you want to interact or observe from the audience so you never have to do anything you don’t want to do. It is an opportunity to let go of control and explore the spontaneity of life and creativity in a supportive\, safe environment..” ~ Kenyon\n“I got to play\, move my body\, laugh\, take joy in watching my friends come alive\, give and receive big hugs\, and feel the presence of the ancestors who always join me. There’s something so sacred about being present with others while we play\, witness and embody what is.” ~ Sue \nWHO IS THIS FOR \nPeople drawn to spirituality\, personal growth\, and inner exploration\nThose seeking genuine connection\, community\, and a sense of belonging\nCreatives and non-creatives alike – no improv or performance experience needed\nIndividuals who value compassion\, openness\, and radical acceptance\nPeople who want to grow in joyful\, embodied ways rather than through heavy or rigid processes\nThose who want to make a positive impact by starting with inner transformation\nIf you’re open\, curious\, and willing to show up as you are—you belong here. \nCURIOUS BUT NOT READY TO JOIN? \nJoin us for the very first playshop of our multi-week series and if you love your first playshop (and we think you will)\, then you’ll have the opportunity to register for the remainder of the series. Hitting the road\, he shined on bills with Sam Barber and Rainbow Kitten Surprise as well as Chelsea Cutler and Jeremy Zucker. Ethan’s self-produced 2025 EP\, honey honey honey\, saw him gain further traction with “get by” and “spaceman.” In the EP’s wake\, he canvased the country\, headlining his “I Almost Graduated” Tour and releasing the likes of “fool” and “sweet hunger.” Looking forward\, his artistry remains an unapologetic and unfiltered reflection of who he is. For sophomore album Arcadia\, she is ultimately telling a story of acceptance\, both of herself and the great mystery that is the universe. Together with producer Ben Cooper (Radical Face)\, Lily takes her classic folk-tinged songs and weaves warmer analog sounds like organ\, harpsichord and guitar with cinematic force\, creating her most intimate release to date. In song and spirit\, Lily is an old soul\, but upon initial meeting she’s kinetic\, ebullient\, lively\, and kind\, quick with a joke and an infectious smile. Lily is a compulsive creator\, she jots down melodies and lyrics as she’s wandering through her days.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening performance at BMCM+AC by the Critical Response Trio (Jason Kao Hwang\, Anders Nilsson\, and Michael T.A. Thompson). \nArising from the synergy of composition and improvisation\, through the kaleidoscopic sound world of the electric violin\, guitar and drum set\, Critical Response challenges the disillusionment and divisiveness that encircle this moment in history. They have performed in venues throughout New York City\, including Roulette in Brooklyn. Their first CD\, Book of Stories\, received international praise. This past summer Critical Response recorded their second CD\, Uprising\, which will be released in 2027.

SUMMARY:Neal Francis
DESCRIPTION:STANDING ROOM ONLY \nNEAL FRANCIS\nNeal Francis’ music is an intoxicating blend of funk\, soul\, and rock that evokes the glory days of the 60s and 70s but is undeniably fresh. His 2019 debut album\, Changes\, drew lavish applause\, hailed as “the reincarnation of Allen Toussaint” by BBC Radio 6 and lauded by KCRW and more. Francis’s acclaimed 2nd LP\, In Plain Sight\, followed in 2021. Led by top 5 Americana radio favorite\, “Can’t Stop The Rain\,” the album earned international praise from such publications as MOJO\, who wrote\, “Francis digs deep on guileless rock and soul with bold flourishes.” Accolades followed\, including a 2022 Americana Music Awards nomination and Libera Award nominations in 2022 and 2024. Francis has sold out shows globally\, shared the stage with Wilco\, The Meters\, My Morning Jacket and Black Pumas\, appeared at major festivals such as Bonnaroo\, Fuji Rock\, Newport Folk\, Lollapalooza\, and performed on national TV. Francis’s live performance was captured in 2023’s double live album & concert film\, Francis Comes Alive. The 3rd album from Neal Francis\, Return To Zero\, emerged from a kind of visionary fever dream. Equal parts heady and hedonistic\, pensive and euphoric\, the LP echoes his deep-rooted psych-rock sensibilities and lifelong love of classic funk. Amid a relentless touring schedule\, Neal immersed himself in creating a beautiful\, strange\, all-analog entangling of timeless rock & roll and ’70s-era dance music\, merging supremely heavy guitar riffs with lush\, pulsating grooves. \nSAM FRIBUSH ORGAN TRIO
