SUMMARY:BRO Presents Fall Family Concerts
DESCRIPTION:Join the BRO for a weekend of music for all ages! Saturday’s program gives our youngest concertgoers (ages 12 and under) and families opportunities to engage with classical music through crafts\, movement\, and activities. Sunday’s concert features the same music in a more traditional concert setting. Selections include John Williams’ Jurassic Park\, John Powell’s How to Train Your Dragon\, Russell Peck’s The Thrill of the Orchestra\, as well as works by Tchaikovsky\, Holst\, and Borodin. \nMusic Director Dr. Emily Mariko Eng says\, “This program was such a joy to put together. Musically\, the program is very fulfilling\, and we can’t wait to share it with audiences of all ages. Our goal for Saturday is that children feel the joy of being immersed in orchestral music\, with room to dance and be creative! We’re hoping to inspire a love of classical music in an environment where kids feel comfortable just being themselves!” \n“We are excited about Dr. Eng’s dedication to engage and entertain our families — the musicians and music lovers of tomorrow — with this season opener of fun and exciting music for all ages\, and fun activities for the youngest ones! Dr. Eng then takes you on a  journey from our tradition of Revels! in December\, then off to France\, and returning to America for our finale\, Voices of America. Join us for all!” – Deb Kenney\, Board President \nThe BRO’s home at UNC Asheville continues its multi-year scheduled renovation. While displaced from Lipinsky Hall\, we are thrilled to express reverberating\, familiar melodies at venues near you! \nOn Saturday\, October 10th\, our impassioned group of volunteer musicians will perform in the Highsmith Student Union building on UNCA’s campus. On Sunday\, October 11th\, we will travel to First Baptist Church Weaverville\, just north of Asheville. Join us for two days of musical enchantment! \nThis concert has been generously sponsored by Asheville Pediatric Associates and Great Smiles.

SUMMARY:Blue Ridge Orchestra's 25th Anniversary Season Finale: Sunday\, May 4th
DESCRIPTION:ASHEVILLE\, NC | The Blue Ridge Orchestra celebrates 25 years of symphonic excellence with our thrilling season finale under the leadership of Music Director Dr. Emily Mariko Eng. \nOur 25th Anniversary Season Finale\, part of the Asheville Symphony Orchestra’s bi-annual festival: “The Art of Storytelling\,” spans genres of jazz and classical in a highly collaborative program. Two exciting works by Leonard Bernstein – Prelude\, Fugue\, and Riffs and Symphonic Dances from West Side Story – will bookend a beautiful\, lyrical piece for jazz quartet and orchestra\, Mom by Asheville-based composer Richard Shulman. The program concludes with the glorious Beethoven Symphony No. 6\, “Pastoral.” \nBlue Ridge Orchestra’s Music Director Dr. Emily Mariko Eng says of the program: “When I planned this music a year ago\, I couldn’t have imagined the poeticism in concluding our season with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6\, the Pastoral. It is one of his few programmatic works\, and it tells a story of the beauty of nature\, but also the destruction it can cause and the feelings following such devastation. We will end our season on a hopeful\, joyous note following the storm\, represented musically but also embodied emotionally.” \nDeb Kenney\, Board President expresses enthusiasm for the BRO’s success in its silver anniversary– The Blue Ridge Orchestra is celebrating its 25th Anniversary Season Finale with an exciting program created by Music Director\, Dr. Emily Mariko Eng! The versatility of our musicians will be on display with works ranging from the full orchestra to jazz ensemble. Based in Asheville\, NC\, we are proud to be Western North Carolina’s volunteer community orchestra\, and thrilled that some of our musicians for this concert performed in the very first BRO concert\, 25 years ago……having performed continuously throughout those 25 years! The Blue Ridge Orchestra is truly of the community\, for the community\, and succeeds to this day only by this community’s support. We thank this amazing artistic community for our opportunity to perform for you. \nBRO’s Season Finale is generously sponsored by Ingles Markets.\nFriday\, May 2nd\, 2025\, 7:00 pm\nSunday\, May 4th\, 2025\, 3:00 pm\nUNC Asheville\nLipinsky Auditorium\n300 Library Lane\nAsheville\, NC. 28804 \nTickets:\nGeneral Admission: $20\nFriends of the Orchestra: $15\nStudents: $5\nChildren 6 and under: Free \nInfo:https://blueridgeorchestra.org/may-25th-anniversary-season-finale-25\, Facebook\, Instagram\, or call 828-782-3354.

SUMMARY:Blue Ridge Orchestra's "March Melodrama"
DESCRIPTION:ASHEVILLE\, NC −The Blue Ridge Orchestra continues celebrating its 25th Anniversary Season with two performances of “March Melodrama”. Franklin Keel\, Asheville’s talented musician\, cellist\, and composer who has made several solo appearances with the BRO\, will lead the orchestra as Guest Conductor. \nPlease join the Blue Ridge Orchestra for two afternoons of orchestral favorites at 3:00 pm: on Saturday\, March 1st\, and Sunday\, March 2nd in Lipinsky Auditorium\, UNC Asheville. We open March Melodrama with Gluck’s dramatic Overture to Iphigenie in Aulis. The BRO then highlights pianist Ivan Seng in Mozart’s Concerto No. 23 in A major\, K. 488. The second half of the program shifts to Dvorak’s Symphony no. 8 in G major\, which takes its inspiration from the nature and folk music of his homeland Bohemia\, presently the Czech Republic. \nBlue Ridge Orchestra Music Director Emily Mariko Eng says of the program: “We wanted this March program to explore emotions in their extremes. As winter nears its end\, we have all spent probably too much time alone with our thoughts and internal dialogues; we have felt joy\, despair\, hopelessness\, optimism\, anxiety\, peace\, loneliness\, connection\, struggle\, triumph… “March Melodrama” captures all of that\, through the musical voices of Mozart\, Dvorak\, and Gluck. The Blue Ridge Orchestra looks forward to making these characters come to life!” \nMarch Melodrama is the second offering of Blue Ridge Orchestra’s 25th Anniversary season\, which expresses WNC’s reflection and resilience after Hurricane Helene. \nSaturday\, March 1st\, 2025\, 3:00 pm\nSunday\, March 2nd\, 2025\, 3:00 pm\nUNC Asheville\nLipinsky Auditorium\n300 Library Lane\nAsheville\, NC. 28804 \nTickets:\nGeneral Admission: $20\nFriends of the Orchestra: $15\nStudents: $5\nChildren 6 and under: Free\nInfo: https://blueridgeorchestra.org/march-melodrama-25 Facebook\, Instagram\, or call 828-782-3354.
