She organized The Resilience Festival to support survivors of sexual trauma and the Pathway to Citizenship show to fund immigrant legal protections\, and she works as a music therapist in group homes for people with disabilities. A backpacker of more than 1\,000 miles through the Andes\, Rockies\, and Appalachians\, she has volunteered to treat hundreds of hemlock trees across Western North Carolina and translated educational materials into Spanish for her community. Heath has opened for headliners Pat Benatar\, Anders Osborne\, Black Joe Lewis\, and many more acclaimed artists. \nMatthew Sidney Parsons\nMatthew Sidney Parsons is a songwriter\, poet\, and educator from Olive Hill\, Kentucky. He wrote the title track on Bronwyn Keith-Hynes’ 2025 Grammy-nominated album I Built a World. Raised in a bluegrass family\, Parsons performs solo and with his band Whistle & Fish and has taught songwriting and traditional music across Appalachia through Morehead State University\, Berea College\, and Hindman Settlement School. But with their fifth studio album\, Back to Life (out January 30\, 2026\, on Yep Roc Records)\, the group sharpens the edges of its identity: road- tested\, deeply traditional in the ways that matter\, and determined to be respected on its own terms. The band’s heartbeat lies between two places. In Todos Santos\, Mexico\, where Cordovas have lived\, written\, and built a small community of artists\, the songs take shape in their most relaxed state\, often amongst a circle of friends. Then it’s back to Nashville\, where rehearsal\, touring\, and recording hammer those ideas into their final form. This cycle has defined the last three years of work\, producing songs that are both varied and cohesive\, each one revealing another side of the band’s range. At the center of Cordovas are songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joe Firstman and guitarist/vocalist Lucca Soria\, partners in what they call a “musical friendship.” The new record is a testament to their growth not just as musicians but as people. “I’m extremely blessed\,” Firstman says. “Everywhere I look is love\, and I set it up that way. My whole life is designed around art\, not around bills or phone calls. Everything is based on love and enthusiasm\, and it radiates from there.” Soria frames it differently but with the same spirit of devotion: “People are at service to us\, and we are at service to them. I am incentivized to do my best all of the time in the service of others. In Mexico\, it’s also a community. Everyone has a role\, and I want to do the best I can for the community.” That philosophy is embodied in the band’s communal compound in Todos Santos. Over the years\, Cordovas have acquired five houses there—each designed by Firstman\, each tailored to the people who live or pass through them. More than just residences\, they function as creative havens: a space where friends\, collaborators\, and fellow travelers are invited in to write songs\, make demos\, stage impromptu shows\, or simply live alongside the band in a shared rhythm of art and life. It’s not a retreat from the world but a way of reshaping it—an intentional community built around the belief that music thrives when it’s lived in\, day after day\, with others.

DESCRIPTION:SEATED SHOW \nSONGWRITERS ROLLER DERBY SHOWCASE\nThe Songwriters Roller Derby Showcase\, presented by the Asheville Songwriters Association\, is a quarterly music show with no roller skates included – just four performers “rollin’ out the songs\, elbows-n-all.” Curated and hosted by Thomas Kozak and Jodi John Pippin\, each “Derby Night” at The Grey Eagle will showcase the craft of songwriting in an intimate and welcoming setting. As an added element of the Songwriters Roller Derby Showcase\, a surprise guest will join the performers on stage for interactive\, on-the-spot commentary ~ a “look under the hood of the songwriting process” of sorts. The audience will have a chance to share comments as well\, if they are inspired to do so. For most of the evening\, the songwriters will perform finished songs\, but they will also each share a brand new song that has not yet been performed on stage. Come support the songwriters as they show their vulnerable side and help nurture the art and craft of songwriting in the region and beyond.\nThe performers for this first Derby will be: \nOld Sap:\nOld Sap. Poet from Chicago\, rambled out to Montana\, cut a banjo from a tamarack\, strings across the country\, foot like a freight train\, voice rushing down over lush Appalachia\, sings a thrush tune through the rush hour and into your long-forgotten prairie dreams. Folk. Folk Rock. Americana. \nSilk and Stone:\nSilk and Stone is an Ohio-grown duo writing honest songs about life\nand the emotions that come with it. With acoustic guitar\, close\nharmonies\, and a shared love of storytelling\, their music is rooted in\nconnection and authenticity.\nAt the heart of their songwriting is love\, in all its forms. From\nfalling in love and heartbreak to friendship\, family\, and\nself-discovery\, they believe love is the thread that ties together the\nhuman experience. Their songs explore the moments that shape us. \nLillie Syracuse:\nPulling from a well of folk-rock\, soul\, and jazz inspiration\, Lillie Syracuse has formed a genre bending artistry and writing style deeply and uniquely her own. With a voice often likened to Norah Jones\, Bonnie Raitt and Brandi Carlile\, Lillie sings to the fullness that is being alive with a razor sharp focus on the heart of each person in the room with her. Lillie has just released her self produced sophomore album Big New Heart and lives in Blue Ridge mountains of Asheville\, NC. \nRyan Furstenberg:\nRyan Furstenberg has been an active member of the Asheville music scene for almost two decades. His main project The Moon and You\, a chamber-folk duo with his wife Melissa Hyman\, has spent the last decade touring the US and Europe. Ryan also performs his songs under his own name and with his roots rock group Phantom Clutch.\nIn addition to his role as a bandleader\, Ryan enjoys collaborating and performing as a sideman with the long-time Asheville groups Tina and Her Pony\, the Dulci Ellenberger band\, and The Dark Turn of Mind band\, a spooky October collaboration between The Moon and You and local songwriter Hannah Kaminer.

DESCRIPTION:ALL AGES\nSTANDING ROOM ONLY \n54 BICYCLES\nThe current version of Widespread Panic is fantastic\, but the tone and energy of a Mikey / Todd show was different. 54 Bicycles plays set lists and plays with an intention of sound and energy closer to the original band. They see the work as preservation and archiving in a real world sense\, while also having a hell of a lot of fun.
