SUMMARY:Damien Jurado: 'All hits & no misses tour' w/ St. Yuma
DESCRIPTION:“Play on\, there’s no such thing as better days\,” Damien Jurado sings on “Roger\,” the sweeping wash of a song that opens Reggae Film Star\, his 18th full length album and second release from Jurado’s own Maraqopa Records label. But as he enters his 25th year as a recording artist\, it’s clear these are\, at the least\, very good days for Jurado on the creative front. In these 12 songs\, which evoke half-recalled dreams and overheard conversations\, the cosmic rushes headlong into the autobiographical and specific moments on the clock fade from past to future to scenes set only in the eternal now. Playing out like a backlot documentary filmed on the location of an unnamed TV or film set—maybe a sitcom taping\, or perhaps it’s a low budget science fiction B-movie\, or could it be a talk show?—the album is populated by performers awaiting call times\, camera operators praying for their shot\, and studio audiences rapt with anticipation. The stars here eschew glitz and glamor. Instead\, they wander grocery stores and parking lots in the verdant Pacific Northwest and the desert Southwest\, looking for payphones and a sense of purpose. Produced by Jurado with multi-instrumentalist Josh Gordon and recording engineer Alex Bush at Sonikwire studio in Irvine\,CA\, Jurado’s home away from home and musical headquarters\, the record’s compositions are among the most musically rich in his vast discography\, encompassing romantic AM gold\, ‘60s psychedelia\, driving rock & roll\, Latin shuffles\, and left of the dial ambiance. Strings swell\, melodic bass bubbles\, and piano sparkles\, undergirding Jurado’s unmistakable voice\, at once intimately present and ghostly\, grounded in the here and now but capable\, at any moment\, of drifting off into the divinatory. Following threads established by 2021’s The Monster Who Hated Pennsylvania\, the album sees Jurado embracing his auteur era\, penning vignettes that arrive with little fanfare and depart quicker than you might suspect\, only to linger long after they wrap. Seeking a skeleton key to decipher the action is beside the point—Jurado’s songs are worlds meant to be lived in\, not picked apart—but on the beatific single “What Happened To The Class Of ‘65?” the singer imagines himself as both the viewer and the viewed\, the eye behind the camera and its subject. This emotional and spiritual transference animates Reggae Film Star. Like a masterful director\, Jurado offers motivation to the listener\, staring unblinkingly from the mise-en-scène in your mind. “Look into the camera\,” he commands on “The Day Of The Robot\,” “One more time with anger/And sadness/I believe you.” A quarter-century in\, Jurado remains gripped by his visions and driven by an unmatched creative drive. Reggae Film Star is one of Damien Jurado’s finest works to date\, a stunning new feature from one of indie rock’s most cinematic figures. Here on this sound stage\, you are the camera\, you are the scene\, you are the setting\, and you are the viewer. Please try not to blink. -Jason P. Woodbury

The event\, set for Saturday\, September 26\, 2026\, offers tender\, juicy Western North Carolina smoked BBQ dinners with all the fixin’s. Take out dinners will be served along the creek of the Riceville Fire Department and Community Center\, 2251 Riceville Road\, Asheville\, NC\, 11:00AM – 3:00PM\, while supplies last. Outside Creekside picnic tables are available for dining. \nPitmasters smoke premium North Carolina pork shoulders throughout the night prior to the event. Dinners include a generous portion of tender\, juicy BBQ pork\, homemade BBQ sauce\, home baked beans\, North Carolina BBQ slaw and a southern roll. \nThe charge for BBQ dinner plates will be $12.00. Scouting programs cost far more than the national registration fee covers and fundraising is the only way to keep activities affordable\, equitable\, and high quality for every family.” \nRaised funds are also used to purchase flags for our veterans’ graves. On Memorial Day\, Independence Day and Veterans Day\, Scout Troop 17 honors our deceased veterans at Bethel United Methodist Cemetery by placing United States flags on their graves. \nIf you have a youth between kindergarten and 18 years that would be interested in Scouts\, there will be a Scouting America representative at the BBQ event to provide information on membership. \nScouts Serving Others: Since 1910\, over 4\,200 young men in Western North Carolina have earned the coveted rank of Eagle Scout. Through their Eagle Scout service projects\, thousands of community service hours have been conducted to benefit Western North Carolina communities. Scouts in WNC will perform over 40\,000 hours of community service in 2026.

SUMMARY:Asheville Symphony Masterworks 1: Fellowship
DESCRIPTION:Darko Butorac\, conductor \nJakob Aumiller\, piano \nWhat does genius look like? Often it looks like community. Brahms crafted his exuberant First Piano Concerto through years of collaboration with close friends and mentors\, including Clara Schumann who inspired the concerto’s dreamy second movement. Beethoven’s relentless Seventh Symphony — a personal favorite of his with its unyielding rhythmic drive — premiered at a charity concert performed by an orchestra of friends and fellow composers. Both works emerged from profound creative kinship and community\, proof that greatness rarely stands alone. \nBrahms: Piano Concerto No. 1 \nBeethoven: Symphony No. 7

SUMMARY:Exhibition on Screen | Michelangelo: Love and Death
DESCRIPTION:“Michelangelo – Love and Death” offers a cinematic journey through the great chapels and museums of Florence\, Rome and the Vatican\, to the print and drawing rooms of Europe\, to explore Michelangelo’s tempestuous life. The film goes in search of a greater understanding of this charismatic and enigmatic figure\, both through his relationships with his contemporaries and his ongoing artistic legacy. The film invites audiences to intimately examine Michelangelo’s art and artistic process – from the Carrara quarries where Michelangelo sourced his marble\, to the new technology being used to attribute works. The film also offers a rare chance to get up close to the mesmerizing Rothschild Bronzes\, which\, following an extensive research project carried out by Academics in Cambridge in 2015\, were positively attributed to Michelangelo after over a century of debate.

SUMMARY:PATIO SHOW: Ross Hollow with Full Band
DESCRIPTION:– LIMITED PATIO SEATING IS FIRST COME FIRST SERVE \nROSS HOLLOW WITH FULL BAND\nRoss Hollow is an indie folk artist out of Asheville\, North Carolina rooted in honest lyricism\, inviting melodies and a rugged spirit of individualism. Founded by singer-songwriter and producer Stuart Ross Johnson-Kwochka\, Ross Hollow has come full circle: from its beginnings as a solo act\, to a full band\, and now back to its core with Stuart Ross at the helm\, writing and recording from a quiet corner in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains.\nRoss Hollow’s music is as much about place as it is about people. Born in the high desert of Roswell\, New Mexico\, his earliest memories are steeped in the sounds of Spanish folk\, cowboy ballads\, and classic country—music that echoed under wide-open skies\, thunderstorms you could see miles away\, and sun-drenched plains. He later moved to Burnsville\, North Carolina\, where Appalachian gospel\, bluegrass\, and Scots-Irish folk music left their mark. He later moved to Indianapolis\, Indiana\, where he was surrounded by heartland rock\, chicago blues and rust-belt emo\, which began to shape his own songwriting voice. \nNow settled back in Asheville\, Ross Hollow finds inspiration in fog-draped mornings\, rhododendron thickets\, the quiet of mountain trails\, and the wild animals all around. Recent work leans into a more organic\, acoustic sound\, rich with finger picked guitar\, warm harmonies\, and collaborations with guest vocalists and string players that evoke the natural beauty in Southern Appalachia

SUMMARY:Patio Show: Becks! Beacon\, and Abbie McAllister
DESCRIPTION:– LIMITED PATIO SEATING IS FIRST COME FIRST SERVE \nBecks!\nBecks! is a queer singer-songwriter whose Appalachian roots ground their music to place\, while pushing the envelope of what it means to ‘belong’ in the folk and old time scenes. Their family history of union organizing and three generations of ‘card-carrying communists’ bring an edge to their live performances that ties the history of the Appalachian region and their family’s history along with it. \nAbbie McAllister\nRural West Virginia-based singer-songwriter Abbie McAllister began her musical journey singing in family church choirs and on the porches of small local businesses— her music obsession fueled by the natural sounds of home and history. With her sound that blends soft rock\, grunge\, and blues with appalachian roots\, she has gained attention as an up-and-coming artist with new pathways for music and inspiration. \nBeacon\nBeacon is the hard-hitting rock fusion project of North Carolina musician Alvin Carlisle. The music is based in leftist political messaging\, ecstatic improvisation\, and the fusion of Black American genres into an enrapturing show.

SUMMARY:Noah Rinker
DESCRIPTION:STANDING ROOM ONLY \nNOAH RINKER\nIt’s place and perspective that drive 23-year-old musician Noah Rinker’s sound. It propels his lyricism and informs his entire point of view. Growing up in the mountains of California\, he found song wherever he could. He picked up the guitar at 14\, learning to play it like a lap steel because he assumed the fretboard might work the same way a keyboard did. At 16\, he wrote his first song. But it was “leaving for sessions with other collaborators that made me realize that home was the thing that made me who I was all along.”\nYou see that connection between song and soul in his videos: Noah\, a guitar\, and the place he grew up. Sometimes you’ll see the mountains sprawled out behind him as he plays; other times\, he’s cloaked in darkness\, only lit by a crackling campfire. There are covers mixed in with originals; snippets of works-in-progress tossed in\, paired with months-in-the-making singles he’s on the cusp of releasing. The music is real\, it’s raw\, and it’s Noah Rinker distilled and at his truest essence. Songs like “Save My Soul” and “Wherever I Go” and “99” introduce the world to a storyteller doing what he does best—digging deep\, baring his soul\, and laying it out on the page for just a few minutes of honest connection.
