Tryon Little Theater\u2019s big musical of the season, Gypsy<\/em>, will run two weekends \u2014 February 28 to March 2, and March 7 to 9 \u2014 at the Tryon Fine Arts Center. The musical’s lyrics are by Stephen Sondheim, music by Jule Styne, and book by Arthur Laurents.<\/p>\n

Many consider Gypsy<\/em> to be one of the greatest American musicals, with its story loosely based on the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee. Lee’s mother, Rose, <\/em>is the \u201cultimate showbiz Mom\u201d determined to raise two daughters to be on the stage. Winner of numerous Tony awards, Drama Desk awards, and a Laurence Olivier award, Gypsy<\/em> features songs including \u201cLet me Entertain You\u201d and \u201cEverything Coming up Roses!\u201d The New York Times<\/em> described the show as “<\/em>a wrenching fable \u2026 yet also a showcase for one classic song and rousing vaudeville routine after another.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Tryon Little Theatre’s production is directed by Laura Depta Peal, alongside music director Pam McNeil.<\/p>\n
