One of the greatest gifts Larry ever received was when his dad put tools in his hands when he was a kid. He was later inspired by the sculptural furniture of artist George Nakashima and visited the Nakashima studio often in the years that followed. After a 40+ year career in education, he began working mostly with local, highly figured hardwoods and burls to create unique pieces of art that maintain the organic beauty of the wood. The wood, with its shape, figure, imperfections and voids, is what draws his attention and curiosity. Sometimes the imperfections are what creates the greatest interest in studying the piece. Larry always attempts to balance form and function, but sometimes one of those wins
