To help raise the funds needed for these vital programs, the organization is holding \u201cArt Affair 2016: From Athena to Zeus\u201d on Saturday, March 5, at Green Man Brewing, 27 Buxton Avenue on Asheville\u2019s South Slope.<\/p>\n<p>Festivities will start with a VIP reception at 6:30 p.m. and live entertainment at 7 p.m. This is the seventh annual \u201cArt Affair,\u201d an event that has become known for its live and silent auctions and great food provided by some of Asheville\u2019s most popular restaurants. This year\u2019s theme\u2014\u201cFrom Athena to Zeus\u201d\u2014is a modern-day interpretation of ancient mythology resulting in a celebration of unseen heroes who are quietly hard at work improving the lives of children.<\/p>\n<p>When John MacKah, one of the artists featured at this year\u2019s event, first learned about OpenDoors he says, \u201cI was completely blown away by the scale and the commitment of the whole thing. What they do is real.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lisa Whittenburg, a single parent, has experienced firsthand the life-changing work done by the folks at OpenDoors. \u201cYou want to know what it really means?\u201d she asks. \u201cLook at my kids\u2026 They are using their minds to think with a new curiosity about everything, always telling me \u2018Mama, did you know this? I learned this today, and this other thing, too!\u2019 I never got that from my kids before OpenDoors, and now their minds are wide open\u2026 I am grateful beyond words.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><i>General admission to \u201cArt Affair 2016: From Athena to Zeus\u201d are $100 each, with VIP tickets available for $150.
