\"Woolworth<\/a><\/p>\n

Asheville-based artist Marilyn Sholin pursues a process involving many intricate steps in creating her colorful paintings. Marilyn is the featured artist for this month at F.W. Front Gallery at Woolworth Walk. There will be an opening reception from 4\u20136 p.m. on Friday, March 4.<\/p>\n

\"Woolworth<\/a>First, a little background. When she was growing up, Marilyn\u2019s two older brothers had a darkroom in the basement. She says she was mesmerized by the apparent magic that enabled pictures to appear in trays of what looked like water. This fascination turned into a lifelong pursuit of photography, and she became a professional photographer with clients coming to her studio from all over the United States, South America, and Canada.<\/p>\n

Fifteen years ago, Marilyn turned her artistic interests to painting in a manner that capitalizes on her photographic expertise. Her paintings begin with multiple photo references that she synthesizes into one image that she manipulates digitally and prints on canvas. Marilyn then picks up a brush and overpaints the image with acrylics and other mediums, often in several layers.<\/p>\n

Marilyn\u2019s paintings have hung in Asheville Regional Airport, and she\u2019s also had several shows in Asheville area restaurants, breweries, and wine stores.<\/p>\n

F.W. Front Gallery at Woolworth Walk, located at 25 Haywood Street in downtown Asheville, is open seven days a week (11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday).
