The Asheville Art Museum is undergoing major construction this year. And while that\u2019s happening, it\u2019s offering a series of programs on the techniques involved in conserving artwork. Here are two of these happening this month.<\/p>\n
Make It Speak Art Break: Stories From the Vault will take place from noon to 1\u00a0p.m. on Friday, March 18. There is no charge for Museum members or with Museum admission.<\/p>\n
As the Museum conducts an inventory, packs, and moves artwork in preparation for the expansion, staff members are making new discoveries about the institution\u2019s collections. Curators, educators, and special guests will relate tales of connoisseurship, conservation, collecting, and some of the conundrums they\u2019ve encountered. Lunchtime Art Breaks are informal gallery talks presented by staff, docents, and others.<\/p>\n
Make It Last Workshop: How to Photograph Your Artwork will be from 10\u00a0a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 19. Admission is $20 for Museum members or $30 for nonmembers.<\/p>\n
High-quality photographs are often used to document artworks for insurance purposes, to assist appraisers in valuation, or to sell artworks online. Digital cameras, portable equipment, and simplified editing software make
\nthis process easier than ever. Learn about basic equipment, lighting, color correction, and scaling to accurately represent the artwork in photographs. This is part of a five-workshop series.<\/p>\n
