Artist, t.e. siewert<\/p><\/div>\n

The April show at the Asheville Gallery of Art is titled The Nature of Things<\/i>, and will feature works by new member artists Tebb\u00e9 Davis, Mark Harmon, t.e. siewert, and Kate Thayer. This will be the second show in AGA\u2019s new gallery space at 82 Patton Avenue across from Pritchard Park. The artists will present works that highlight their diverse styles as they each interpret their view of the natural world.<\/p>\n

Tebb\u00e9 Davis paints landscapes and abstract paintings that focus primarily on the textures and colors of the southern Appalachians and the Carolina seashore. \u201cI invite the viewer to explore a world far removed from their everyday existence to an inner journey of the soul,\u201d he states.<\/p>\n

Mark Hamon says the very texture of the Smoky Mountains and the weathered rock faces covered by lichens and mosses inspire his work. These paintings, he says, \u201cspeak of the frailty and resilience of life in the form of beautiful compositions that capture the very nature of things often ignored.\u201d<\/p>\n

t.e. siewert works in encaustic and says the depth of the colored wax layers and sheen achievable using that medium allow her to create nature scenes that are characteristically full of light and poetry. Her work reflects her love of the Western North Carolina mountains where she says, \u201cThe air is fresh, the streams are clear, and the people are down-to-earth.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kate Thayer states, \u201cAs a painter, my aim has always been that of attempting to kindle in the viewer the same kind of emotional exhilaration that I experience when I am seduced by a scene that asks to be brought to life in pastel or oils.\u201d She says she thinks of her paintings as poems, wordless encounters with the often stunning voices of nature.<\/p>\n

The Nature of Things opens with a reception with the artists from 5\u20138 p.m. on April 1 and runs through the end of the month. Gallery hours are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 1\u20134 p.m. on Sunday.<\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
