At Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Asheville at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, the Asheville Chamber Music Series will present a concert by the Doric String Quartet with pianist Jonathan Biss. The program will include music by Joseph Hayden (String Quartet No. 4 in G major, Op. 64), Erich Wolfgang Korngold (String Quartet No. 2 in E-flat major, Op. 26), and Johannes Brahms (Piano Quintet in F minor, Op. 34).<\/p>\n
Of the Doric String Quartet\u2019s concerts, British magazine Gramaphone<\/i> says, \u201cThese are performances that make you fall in love with the music all over again.\u201d Based in England, the quartet has received fantastic reviews from audiences and music critics around the globe.<\/p>\n
The group plays concerts throughout Europe and, in 2010, made its American debut at the Frick Museum in New York City and the Library of Congress in Washington. They return annually for tours across North America.<\/p>\n
Born into a family of musicians, Jonathan Biss made his recital debut in 2000 in New York. The next year, he performed with the New York Philharmonic. In 2002, his international career started when he was the first American chosen as a British Broadcasting Company \u201cNew Generation Artist.\u201d He made his Carnegie Hall debut in 2011, and has since performed with leading orchestras across the country.<\/p>\n
Asheville Chamber Music Series is one of the nation\u2019s oldest continuous performing chamber music organizations. It has been recognized for its programs and for its education component through collaboration with the strings program of the Asheville Buncombe Schools and other cultural partners in the community.<\/p>\n
