From functional tableware to decorative sculptures, ceramics come in a range of colors, shapes, textures, sizes, and uses. Representing the full spectrum of the medium, the sixth annual Madison County Potters Market will take place on Saturday, April 2, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the historical Marshall High Studios on Blannahassett Island. Free and open to the public, this event showcases the work of two dozen talented potters from Western North Carolina and beyond.<\/p>\n
In addition to the ten members of The Potters of Madison County, 15 guests will also bring their work to the event. \u201cEach year we sit as a group and discuss our invited guests to ensure that we are keeping our show fresh and providing a lot of variety at our show for new and returning customers,\u201d says member Joey Sheehan, of Melting Mountain Pottery. \u201cThe purpose of inviting these guests is so that we can have a larger event where attendees can see a larger spectrum of work.\u201d He says guests can find everything from low-fire, brightly colored earthenware to high-fired ash-glazed stoneware.<\/p>\n
The Potters of Madison County hope to build awareness of their craft, and events such as these help customers connect the makers with the final product, making it all the more special. Additionally, it\u2019s a great chance for these craftspeople to get together.<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving a strictly potters show also gives us\u2014as artists and guests\u2014a chance to hang out with each other and discuss our work \u2026 and what we are all doing,\u201d says Joey. \u201cWe have a great time, sell some pots, and hopefully learn some new things from each other that we can bring back to our individual studios.\u201d<\/p>\n
