\"\"Art After Dark, the downtown Waynesville gallery stroll, will take place on the first Friday of each month through December. The event includes nine participating galleries and other stores on Main Street that will extend their hours through 9 p.m. and offer art demonstrations, live music and refreshments. There will also be sidewalk musicians and additional attractions provided by the Town of Waynesville, including face painting and a paint-your-own-pottery \u201cmobile art wagon.\u201d<\/p>\n

Art After Dark was started by the Haywood County Galleries Association in partnership with the Downtown Waynesville Association as a way to draw attention to Waynesville\u2019s eclectic art scene and increase downtown foot traffic. The popular gallery stroll was canceled during COVID-19 in respect for the limitations on social gatherings. \u201cAs a very popular event, we are excited that after a two-year pause, Art After Dark is returning to fill Main Street with art, music and friendships,\u201d says Carrie Keith, owner of participating gallery Twigs and Leaves. During the June 3 Art After Dark, Twigs and Leaves presents folk artist Phyllis Vaughn, who will be demonstrating her fun, quirky style of painting that she characterizes as \u201cprimitive.\u201d The gallery will also have piano music by Judy Philips and appetizers, as well as its selection of works by more than 120 artists, most of whom are regional.<\/p>\n

Colored pencil artist Teresa Pennington, owner of participating gallery T. Pennington Art Gallery, has been a part of Art After Dark since its inception and has watched it grow through the years. \u201cArt After Dark has long been one of the best gallery strolls in Western North Carolina,\u201d says Pennington. \u201cWe are grateful that Waynesville is better and stronger than ever, having lost no Main Street businesses due to COVID. We hope everyone will come out to celebrate our grand re-opening of this event.\u201d<\/p>\n
