On Saturday, June 24, Grovewood Gallery presents Inqwiry<\/em>, an outdoor exhibition of wire animal sculptures by Bakersville artist Josh Cot\u00e9. The opening reception will take place in the gallery\u2019s sculpture garden from 2\u20135 p.m. and the exhibition will remain on view through August 13. \u201cThe selected works for this show will show the culmination of everything I have learned as a sculptor in wire,\u201d says Cot\u00e9. \u201cSo the title of the show, Inqwiry, seemed a perfect fit as it describes my curiosity and love of wire. I have followed it like a metal thread to wherever it leads.\u201d<\/p>\n

I’m Hare Now. Josh Cote, artist<\/p><\/div>\n

Cot\u00e9 grew up immersed in art with a father and grandmother that were both painters. He says his father encouraged him to try different mediums, so he explored woodcarving, stone carving, writing, oil painting and collage. \u201cI discovered that wire, in its linear nature, could still describe things in a three dimensional way that appealed to me, like a 3D sketch,\u201d he says. \u201cIt has kept my curiosity for over 20 years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cot\u00e9 will be present at the opening reception to discuss his work, which includes several new sculptures made from aluminum-recycled, high voltage electric wire: an 8-foot-long rhino filled with blue glass bottles, a 6-foot-tall penguin, a large wolf, and a goat filled with recycled cans.<\/p>\n
