{"id":61465,"date":"2023-08-06T18:06:32","date_gmt":"2023-08-06T22:06:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thelaurelofasheville.com\/updatestage\/?p=61465"},"modified":"2023-08-06T18:09:10","modified_gmt":"2023-08-06T22:09:10","slug":"book-feature-here-in-the-dark","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thelaurelofasheville.com\/updatestage\/arts\/book-feature-here-in-the-dark\/","title":{"rendered":"Book Feature: <em>Here in the Dark<\/em>"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><em>Meagan Lucas, Author<\/em><\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-61467\" src=\"https:\/\/thelaurelofasheville.com\/updatestage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Book-Feature-2-Here-in-the-Dark-none-needed-copy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"309\" \/>A desire to revisit\u2014and share\u2014some of her short stories led author Meagan Lucas (<em>Songbirds and Stray Dogs<\/em>) to produce her latest work, <em>Here in the Dark<\/em>. \u201cWhen I started thinking about how to narrow my back catalogue of stories into something that felt connected\/cohesive, I noticed a pattern\u2014I almost always write about women, and most of my stories include some element of lawlessness, if not outright crime,\u201d Lucas says. \u201cI\u2019m fascinated with the lives of women, and find them underrepresented in crime stories\u2014especially as the perpetrators or solvers of the crime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lucas finds stories a welcome diversion, at times, from novel writing. \u201cI also think that I\u2019m willing to be a little more brave in a short story\u2014both with technique and with subjects,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>She hopes that readers of all genres find this collection enticing. \u201cThere are a lot of tough subjects in these stories, but my goal is always to entertain, to keep the reader up at night flipping pages,\u201d Lucas says.<\/p>\n<p>Here in the Dark, <em>July 2023, fiction, paperback, $14.99, by Meagan Lucas, and published by Shotgun Honey Books, Lutz, FL.
