TRAC Hosts Photography Exhibit by H. Allen Benowitz<\/h2>\n

On Friday, August 26, from 5\u20137 p.m. the Toe River Arts Council (TRAC) will host an opening reception for \u201cAsia\u201d an exhibition of fine art photography by H. Allen Benowitz from his travels to Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and Singapore. The exhibition will be displayed in the TRAC Arts Resource Center in Spruce Pine through September 10.<\/p>\n

For this exhibition, Allen spent 28 days trekking through Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and Singapore during what was the longest trip of his life. Along the way, he captured beautiful images of the people and architecture he encountered.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe highlight, following knee-replacement surgery,\u201d says Allen, \u201cwas accomplishing my goal of hiking up to the Tiger\u2019s Nest cliffside Buddhist monastery, perched precariously on a mountainside in the Himalayas of Bhutan.\u201d Other favorite activities include exploring the Dambulla caves in Sri Lanka, taking an elephant safari through the Chitwan Jungle in Nepal, and attending the Jambay Festival in Bumthang, Bhutan.<\/p>\n

Artist, H. Allen Benowitz<\/p><\/div>\n

He was particularly impressed by the architecture of Kathmandu, much of which was unfortunately lost in an earthquake shortly after his departure. Allen\u2019s photographs capture these structures before they were destroyed. He says his work is \u201cabout the people and their culture primarily, and their unique and special architecture secondarily.\u201d<\/p>\n

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Allen graduated from the Interboro Institute of Business in Manhattan. A self-taught photographer, he lives between homes in Miami and Burnsville. Recently, Allen\u2019s work has been displayed at The Louvre in Paris, The Amsterdam Whitney Gallery in New York, and Spectrum-Miami in Florida during Art Basel. His photo subjects include landscape, wildlife, people, architecture, and adventure travel.<\/p>\n
