Heavy on the Vine<\/em><\/h2>\n

Hannah Kaminer grew up in Black Mountain and in Yancey County, listening to music where she could find it\u2014at musicals and in church. \u201cI was drawn to singing from a really young age,\u201d she says. \u201cI just thought it was fun to play with music and put songs in different keys. I really became a musician after college, when I started hanging out with a songwriters\u2019 group in Asheville to try to make friends\u2014and then realized I could write songs of my own.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"Her latest release, Heavy on the Vine<\/em>, is her third studio album\u2014self-produced and enlisting her full band, Hannah & The Wistfuls. \u201cWith this album, I feel like I have come into my own sound,\u201d she says, \u201cand felt less of a need to stay in my lane with genres. I pulled ideas from old hymns and Motown and Patsy Cline\u2014heck, anywhere I wanted to\u2014and got a lot more playful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kaminer describes her music as \u201cAmericana roots, more indie than folk,\u201d and says that her songwriting was shaped by growing up with both hymns and bluegrass in Western North Carolina. She wrote the track \u201cThe Silence & the Song\u201d about the pandemic and the inequities it exposed. \u201cEverlasting Arms\u201d is a song that took a long time to write and has, she says, \u201callowed me to grieve for losing my religion in a way that reconnects me to people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her listeners are those drawn to \u201chaunting lyrics or interesting melodies,\u201d she says. \u201cI hold to the idea that music can transmute pain into beauty, and I think people are drawn to that as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
