Looking to shake up your lunchtime routine? The Academy for the Arts (AFTA) invites you to enjoy a free concert series called \u201cBach\u2019s Lunch\u201d on the first Tuesday of every month. Each half-hour concert begins at 12:05 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church in downtown Asheville, followed by a box lunch available for $5. The next event is set for September 6.<\/p>\n
These concerts will feature organist Tate Addis playing the music of J.S. Bach and other great composers, as well as original compositions. Tate holds a Master of Music degree from the Yale University School of Music and Institute of Sacred Music. He also serves as organist at First Baptist Church and teaches at AFTA.<\/p>\n
Now in its third year, the Academy began their fall term August 15. Students can enroll in private and group music lessons for a variety of instruments, including piano, organ, percussion, voice, violin, viola, cello, bass, harp, flute, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, and tuba, as well as old-time bluegrass and early swing instruments such as fiddle, banjo, mandolin, dulcimer, guitar, and bass. They also offer several choral ensembles. Asheville Youth Choirs, open to youth in grades K-12, include a high school, middle, and children\u2019s choir. AFTA sponsors the Asheville Symphony Youth Orchestra.<\/p>\n
