The idea of including the Greek goddess Hestia arrived through the writing process. \u201cI decided I wanted to find the parallels between a goddess and a mortal woman,\u201d Malone says. \u201cI envisioned writing about my mother as if she were elevated to a goddess, and writing about the goddess Hestia as if she were also just a woman at heart living her daily life.\u201d The poems are presented as \u201cglimpses, sketches, just enough that readers gain a sense of a life lived,\u201d she adds.<\/p>\n<p>She hopes the book speaks to men who want to understand better the women in their lives and, of course, to women\u2014wives, daughters, mothers and especially those aged 40 and over. \u201cI know that for me and for my mother our 40s felt like a time of reclaiming happiness, of going in search of the young girls we used to be,\u201d Malone says, \u201cthat innocent part of ourselves that has not been told that society has different rules for women, a set of expectations that are likely to be unrealistic and unattainable, and are not the ones we necessarily have for ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What Does Anyone Know About Goddesses?,<em> November 2025, poetry, paperback, $20, by Gina Malone, and published by Kelsay Books, American Fork, UT.
