\"\"Falcon Guides has released the first in a four-part series of Appalachian Trail (AT) guidebooks written by Madison County residents Amber and Joshua Niven. \u201cThis book (and the forthcoming ones in the series) is the perfect companion for anyone interested in hiking on the AT because it not only covers the technical data needed such as mileage markers, water sources and campsites but also features stunning professional colored photography,\u201d says Amber.<\/p>\n

The two collaborated on Discovering the Appalachian Trail: A Guide to the Trail\u2019s Greatest Hikes in 2022<\/em>. Experienced hikers, they met on the AT and bring their own skills and knowledge to the project. \u201cWe\u2019ve figured out a pretty good system,\u201d says Amber. \u201cJosh is in charge of the visuals while I\u2019m in charge of the words.\u201d With their three young children, they recently took a research trip to WV and PA for the third book in the series. \u201cWe\u2019ve decided to break the Trail up into four parts so we can go deeper than just the data charts,\u201d says Amber.<\/p>\n

Joshua thru-hiked the AT with his camera in 2013. \u201cThis project has been an opportunity for me to recapture the best of the best on the Trail with the highest level of capability and equipment,\u201d he says. \u201cAt the end of the project, I\u2019ll hopefully have one of the most extensive portfolios documenting the entire AT.\u201d<\/p>\n
