Mountain Institute for Lifelong Learning at Warren Wilson College is a vessel for community building, exploration, adventure, place-based learning, and the ignition of new passion for lifelong learners. These are non-credit bearing experiences, ranging in length from one to three weeks, that bring learners to our campus in Asheville, NC or send them on global explorations with Warren Wilson faculty. These courses highlight the unique magic of Warren Wilson College, which has been a hub of experiential learning since its founding as the Asheville Farm School in 1894.<\/p>\n
Adults of all ages are encouraged to apply (18+). The majority of courses will take place on Warren Wilson\u2019s campus, and others will be Worldwide Courses that depart from Asheville but travel to various corners of the globe.<\/p>\n
Figure Sculpting with Local Clays
\nIn this week-long course, we dig our own clay, process it and cover hand building skills, such as coil, slab, and pinching to create gestural and emotive figure sculptures. The class will conclude with a pit firing.

\nSummer Knitting Camp: Learn Now, Be Prepared for Winter!
\nIn this week-long course, you\u2019ll experience a magnificent and thorough foray into all the knitting skills and knowledge you’ll need to get you through infinite Autumns & Winters knitting happily away. Hats, shawls, mittens, even sweaters or socks: all skills start here with the basics! Great for newbies, returners, or intermediate knitters who want to refine their skills.

Beginner Ukulele and Storytelling Performance
\nThis week-long workshop is designed for ukulele players of all abilities to come together and learn how to combine storytelling with music. Participants will learn to play a folktale-inspired song, understand basic ukulele techniques, and engage in group activities that blend narrative with music.

Western North Carolina Cinema: Visions of Our History and Culture
\nUsing regional movies, such as “Cold Mountain,” “Nell,” “The Winter People,” and “Songcatcher,” this week-long course will explore the history, culture and stereotypes of how Western North Carolina is perceived to Americans and the world. We will begin by outlining the history, and then watch and discuss a series of movies as a way to critique and understand life here in the mountains.
