SUMMARY:Airing of the Quilts
DESCRIPTION:The airing of quilts is a traditional rite of spring in the mountains.  After a long winter with families snuggled under layers of warm handmade quilts\, the warmer weather of springtime gave women a chance to freshen up and air-out these essentials covers. We want to invite you to be part in this special day! To honor this tradition\, the Appalachian Women’s Museum began an annual event in 2017 where as many as 65 quilts hung on the wrap around porch\, from clotheslines in the yard\, and on quilt racks and other surfaces throughout the first floor of the museum. This year we are excited to once again share quilts of local makers going back generations. Throughout the day John Tichich will play his fiddle and have a working treadle sewing machine for participants to use. Come visit us at our traditional Airing of the Quilts at the Appalachian Women’s Museum.\nCheck out AWM Facebook and Instagram regularly for updates of the event.\nAbout Registering Your Quilt             \nDeadline to Register – April 25\, 2025\nTypes of Quilts: You may register family heirloom quilts\, quilts you’ve made or made by someone else\, can be hand stitched or machine stitched\, can be old\, can be new.
