SUMMARY:An evening with Squanderers
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Monday\, March 31\, for a special evening with Squanderers\, hot off the band’s Big Ears debut. Doors at 7 p.m.\, show at 8 p.m. $15 advance / $20 at the door. \nSquanderers first sprung into action as the duo of composer\, musician\, filmmaker\, and multi-instrumentalist Kramer\, and composer\, guitarist\, pianist\, and vocalist David Grubbs with the single “Congress of Poodles” b/w “Lendrick Muir Bible Study Weekend\,” part of Kramer’s 2023 Shimmy-Disc box set Rings of Saturn. Squanderers now enter the arena of live performance with the addition of bona-fide guitar slayer Wendy Eisenberg\, a dream of a foil to Grubbs’ grubbslike guitarisms\, setting the scene for Kramer to follow his musical divining rod. Divining urges not dirges.

SUMMARY:Fundraiser for Limestone Gumption
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to a fundraiser for Limestone Gumption: The Stage Musical Comedy on Monday\, March 17\, 6-9pm. Free! \nThe free event will showcase top professional entertainment\, side-splitting laughter\, free delicious\, hand-crafted food from Chef Michelle Bailey\, and a cash bar. Hazel Brindley opens the show\, riding a self-driving motorized piano on wheels around the room through tight twists and turns while playing your favorite hits on the keys! \nThe host of the fundraiser is the talented “DelightedToBeHere.” A live singing drag queen as seen on “America’s Got Talent” performs hilarious\, fall-out-of-your-seat-laughing numbers. \nThe all-women band\, Channeling Granny\, performs original numbers from the production on fiddle\, base\, and guitar. \nBe sure to wear your green. We’ll be celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day. \nABOUT THE MUSICAL COMEDY: Southern charm and religious values are currency\, and townsfolk die of natural causes in the sleepy town of Whitecross. Until now. Who killed town football hero\, Big Jake? When legal authorities fail to protect the women denizens of Whitecross\, the Sisterfriends—members of the Women’s Preservation Club—take matters into their own hands to see that justice is served. \nThe surprising answers are revealed in a dark descent into the campy\, musical romp. The mystery will keep you on the edge of your seat and make you fall out of it laughing. Or maybe even both!

SUMMARY:For the Record: Jeremy Phillips art opening
DESCRIPTION:“For the Record\,” a new exhibition by Jeremy Phillips opens at Citizen Vinyl on Friday\, December 6\, 6-9 p.m. Jupiter\, experimental music from Jeff Arnal\, Kris Gruda\, and John English\, will also perform in celebration of their new\, eponymous album. \nJeremy Phillips is an Asheville based artist and educator. He paints out of his River Arts District studio in Pink Dog Creative and is a Religion and Humanities Instructor at Haywood Community College. \nFrom Jeremy: “I love vinyl records and all the accoutrements around them; the 12 inch square\, the 12 inch circle\, the cardboard covers with endless color and imagery\, the spines with their tiny words\, the familiarity of holding them and setting down the needle on the turntable\, the liner notes and inner sheets with lyrics and more\, the way the lined-up spines look on the shelf\, the sepia inner sleeves of older records\, the lovely aging and accidents that give the covers character and wear. Oh and the rich sound and occasional crackles are just fine too. \n“This show takes scrap records that no record store can sell\, or that end up in the Goodwill bins\, or that were jettisoned for refuse from Helene floods and turns them into new images and uses. This is work that celebrates the physical properties of the records and their covers\, turning them into fresh mediums for collage\, sculptural pieces\, realist imagery\, and abstraction.”

DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening with TANASI on Saturday\, November 23. 7 p.m. doors and 8 p.m. show. $22 advance / $25 at the door. \nTanasi’s world-inspired mountain music taps into the similarities of roots artists across the globe and crafts it into a sound that has a way of seeping into those deep parts of your heart\, bringing it home. This collaboration of three celebrated Asheville\, NC-area roots artists features the tight sister harmonies of MerleFest-winning songwriter Anya Hinkle and Mary Lucey (Biscuit Burners\, Uncle Earl) with the inimitable dobro musings of Billy Cardine who\, after his collaboration with Edgar Meyer’s Porous Borders of music\, Jerry Douglas said\, “I couldn’t have picked a better example of where the Dobro is now or what the possibilities are with the instrument.” \nTanasi debuted in 2024 at festivals such as Earl Scruggs Festival\, FallGrass at Planet Bluegrass and The Durango Meltdown. As a trio\, they have toured Europe and extensively in the US in since 2021. Individual members of the trio have toured the world over from Japan to India to Europe and across the US at festivals such as Bonnaroo\, Rockygrass and Merlefest and on stages such as The Ryman Auditorium\, The Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall.

SUMMARY:Lonesome Station Presents: Hayden Pedigo + Special Guest
DESCRIPTION:Lonesome Station Presents: Hayden Pedigo + Special Guest at Citizen Vinyl on Sunday\, November 17. 7pm doors and 8pm show. $15 advance / $20 at the door. \nSomething happened. Between the summer of The Happiest Times I Ever Ignored and the night before Christmas Eve 2023\, the music of Hayden Pedigo transformed. Back-to-back months of touring lead to incredible outcomes: First\, his chops became more finely honed than ever before\, lending a precision and versatility to the songs that would surprise even the most-seasoned Pedigo listener. Second\, Hayden lived in these songs\, translating them through improvisation and dynamic exploration into emotional juggernauts – instrumental music that sings to the audience. \nLanding in his hometown of Amarillo\, Texas for the holidays to perform at The Amarillo Globe-News Center – home of the Amarillo Symphony – a gorgeous and beguiling set was recorded in front of a crowd of nearly five hundred people. Put to tape by Nathan and Joe Luscombe\, mixed by Davis Hart\, and mastered by Stephan Mathieu\, Mexican Summer proudly presents Hayden Pedigo’s Live in Amarillo\, Texas\, an album that could one day be mentioned in the same breath as John Fahey’s The Great Santa Barbara Oil Slick and Townes Van Zandt’s Live at the Old Quarter.
