The Laurel of Asheville is a lifestyle magazine focused on the arts, culture, and communities of Western North Carolina, and submitted events should fall within this context. If your event occurs over several days, please submit multiple events. Events extending beyond a month will not be accepted. All submissions are subject to editorial approval and edits for clarity and style before being published online. If you are going to include a photograph, please be certain that you have the rights to utilize that image. If there is a question about image rights, we may remove the image. Also, images should be no larger than 2000 pixels wide. Large images will prevent the event from being submitted. Please allow up to 5 days for your even to be posted. Reading Opens the World Book Drive and Family Literacy Fair
Read 2 Succeed Asheville/Buncombe is hosting the Reading Opens the World Book Drive and Family Literacy Fair in partnership with American Federation of Teachers and AFPENC, with support from APRI, First Book, and other community partners.
On Sunday, September 27, more than 30,000 free books will be available for children, families, educators, schools, and community programs across Western North Carolina. Books for readers from birth through high school will include English- and Spanish-language titles. Educators may select up to 50 books each for their classrooms, with no cap on the number of educators who may participate from one school.
The event falls on the second anniversary of Hurricane Helene and will recognize the sustained work of students, families, educators, schools, and community partners throughout our region’s education recovery.
Join us from noon-4 p.m. at Martin L. Nesbitt Jr. Discovery Academy in Asheville.
