Shop Talks: The Cheerful Word

Shop Talk: Cheerful WorldSam Uhl’s lifelong passion for preserving life stories began at a young age when she accompanied her mother to work at a nursing home. “I toddled from room to room and I listened to stories,” says Sam. A personal historian, Sam launched The Cheerful Word to help turn memories into memoirs. Through a range of options including interviews, workshops, and coaching sessions, The Cheerful Word helps clients create a meaningful finished product, from audio recordings to lightly edited transcriptions to first-person leather-bound books. Sam writes Life Story Books based on personal interviews that bring out a theme or aspect of one’s life. “We are not biographers or ghost writers,” says Joe Kaplan, Vice President of The Cheerful Word. “Our goal is to produce something that, when you read it, you say, ‘That sounds just like dad!’” For those who wish to write their own, Sam also offers “My Life Stories,” an eight-week guided memoir writing workshop. “In every case, my goals are to honor, encourage, and inspire both the writer and the reader,” says Sam.

The next “My Life Stories” workshop begins September 1. The Cheerful Word is located at 318 N. Main Street, Suite 15, in downtown Hendersonville, with entrance next to Black Bear Coffee Co. Handicap accessible entrance also available. For more, visit cheerfulword.com, or call 828.595.9802.
