Trackside Studios in the River Arts District will host an auction of art salvaged after Hurricane Helene, along with art inspired by what community members went through both individually and collectively. The auction acknowledges the 2-year milestone of Hurricane Helene, including the flooding of Trackside Studios, creative home to 60 local artists. Net proceeds will be split evenly between the artists and BeLoved Asheville, a local nonprofit organization that has supported the community before, during and since Helene.
Auction pieces can be viewed in person at Trackside Studios from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The auction will be held online September 1 to 14 at Resilience: Art & Community | Trackside Studios
Many of the “survivor” art pieces have visible damage, demonstrating their endurance. Some pieces were created from materials that were salvaged from the mud after flood waters retreated, and each carries a story, too — of artists digging deep within themselves to find the energy, courage and heart to move forward.
The stories for each piece are told by the artist on the auction site and on labels at the studio. Purchasing one of these survivors or inspired pieces helps support the creator, plus countless community members in the Asheville area through the work of Beloved Asheville.
